  1. Check the area between the dashboard above the tach and the plastic right above the tach. Do this by squeezing that area between your thumb and forefinger. There are two small screws that attach the plastic below to the dash above (press together at those points) - every IS I have ever driven has a small squeek from that area. If it is that, dealer needs to put felt tape in that area.

Hi thanks for your reply, but I am positive the noise is not coming from the dash. I only hear the noise when the tachometer is moving.

  2. I've been putting 6.5 quarts at each change. This will bring it to the full mark exactly. Don't over fill. If you are using quart bottles they should be marked. If you are using bulk, go to Walmart and get a cheap glass measuring cup.

Thanks for the suggestion, 6.5 quarts is a good round number. I can save the half quart for the next oil change.

  3. The likelihood of 0.3 extra quarts of oil in the crankcase and sump doing any damage to your car is extremely low. In 25 years and a couple dozen cars and motorcycles, I've rounded up to the nearest quart and never had a problem. Large quantities of extra oil (like two or more extra quarts) can push past the rings and/or froth, but a few extra ounces won't hurt you.

Thank you! Next time I'll just pour in 7 quarts.

  4. I had alot of fun doing this photo shoot thing. I got pulled over by the police twice, kicked out of 3 "stock yards" by security gaurds, almost locked in a steel mill (That would have really sucked! He never even saw me until I was driving up to the gate he just closed and locked and was driving away to go home for the weekend!) The police just wanted to know what the heck I was doing around there and all, but I saw a bunch of really good spots I think I might go back to another day. I kept finding the side I thought would make a good backdrop was facing the wrong direction of the sun. And it was still pretty overcast for the morning, it wasn't until about 9:30-10:00 that the clouds started to break and the sun started to shine, and by then I only had about an hour before it started to get to bright again.

Your car is looks really nice! I am planning to tint my car and just wondering what you have on yours? Do you think titanium window tint will look good?

  5. Take out every 5000 or so miles and drive several miles in 3 or 4 gear at 4500 rpm. That will keep the cobwebs out of it.

I heard this before. Is there any validity to that practice?

Sure there is, especially if you reset the ECU prior to making that drive.

I need help with this. Can you please elaborate? :)

Well in the first place we used to blow the carbon etc out of motors by driving at high speeds. Since that isn't all that safe etc you can do the same thing by gearing down and running somewhat high RPM without having to drive 100 plus mph.

I think that even with high tech engines and good gas that over time there is some buidup that can be somewhat cleared this way. For instance if a car is driven slow and idled a lot like a taxi, the motor is going to get crud built up.

As for the ECU. When you reset it, it goes to new car default and leans how you drive. So if you drive a little hard once in awhile it's going to learn that.

There have been tests on dyno of normal driven car power and then reset ECU and drive fast power and there is a significant difference.

How do you reset the ECU?

  6. I have a 2007 IS250 and I live in Southern California where the temperature is usually warm. Lexus recommends using 5w-30 grade for motor oil, but is it okay to use 10w-30?

Also, I was looking to purchase an oil filter wrench for removing the filter housing cap but was not able to find one. Longo Lexus dealer said they do not carry it. Does anyone know where I can find one, even an aftermarket one is fine. What size should I look for? And is there a difference in the oil filter cap between the 2006 and 2007 IS250?

  7. On my 2007 IS 250, I usually drive with the fan set on low and set with the fresh air vent mode without AC. I would turn of the car with the setting leaving the settings as is. But when I start the car the next day, it switches to recirculation mode and I have to manually switch back to fresh air mode. Is this normal or is there a way to keep the same settings same as when the car was turn off?

  8. If you like the TP and it's there, go get it.

MR wasn't my first choice but it was the first car in, I bought it and I love it. I've had extra months of enjoyment while other people were trying to find or waiting for cars.

Okay so I went back yesterday to place my order and all you TP owners.. you are absolutely right! The black sapphire was indeed beautiful but I ended up bringing my new tungsten pearl baby home!

    ^_^

Congrats to you. Tungsten pearl is super nice!

  9. Just make sure you understand that Black Sapphire Pearl will show dirt very badly. I know, I own one. I love the color though, just make sure your willing to either have a dirty looking car or wash it often.

What is the difference between Black Sapphire Pearl and Obsedian?

    blue vs. black

Thanks for the clarification. I had problem telling the difference from looking at the color chart.

  10. After getting the tint installed, how long did it take you guys to have all the bubbles disappear? The shop told me about a week, but wondering about other jobs?

Let it sit in the sun if you can to help the tint cure. It can take a week or so for them to disappear. I know for me my car sits in a big garage every day so the last time I got tint it took a few weeks for them to disappear. But I think it also depends on how bad the bubbles were to start with.

Do you know if the installer had any difficulty when installing the tint on the rear window? Just wondering since it looked very tight back there.
