  1. Guys, I lubricated the strut tops and cylinder rods and the rattle went away for 100 miles. When it gets very cold, like today, the noise is still there if I don't lubricate. I need a long term fix and am willing to spend a few bucks. It appears to be either the struts, strut mounts, or a combination of both. I have replaced the strut linkages and the stabilizer bushings and got no relief. I have priced fully assembled struts/springs/mounts at Tirerack.com at $225 per wheel. My local mechanic is willing to put them on for $100 plus an alignment. Out the door at $600 and nearly the entire front suspension will be new. How does this sound?
  2. Glad to hear you had success. I have a 97 ES300 with 100K on it. Car runs great except for that annoying rattle in cold weather. Here in Pittsburgh I get the pleasure of hearing it full force for 5 months of the year. I have replaced the strut linkages and stabilizer bushings with no relief at all. Strut and/or strut mounts are next. I'll try your oil solution to see if I get any relief. If so, then I'll replace the struts. This car is too good to let it go for this annoyance. Thanks!
  3. I have a 97 ES300 with 100K on it. Other than the strut bushings this car is the most quiet, strong, sound, and reliable car I have owned. The sludge this does appear overblown if you change oil at least every 5000 miles. Sounds like the previous owner took care of it and the timing belt/water pump is the big PM thing took have addressed at this mileage. Good luck. You should love the care for $3500.
