  1. Actually had rotations and allignments till I was blue. Proof is that after the fix, the tires are starting to wear true and round. Just want to make the point that noise, if it comes from suspension, might be seen as a wear problem in the tires. Phil
  2. Just went thru a problem that might be relevant. My tires were wearing funny and I could not trace it down. Finally a dealer found a worn (but the key here is not badly worn) upper control arm) which seems to have helped the tire wear problem. BUT - I realized that the whole time, I was feeling a catch in the brakes during each deceleration. I feel stupid, but never associated the two. Check the wear on the tires. My tires wore not by cupping, but in a choppy way where the outside treads on both sides made the rubber wear straight down from the snipe so that each tire on the front had a sharp edge that presented itself to the road, and was really noisy. Maybe (hopefully) your is not that bad, but whether or not this is a problem, if it is suspension related, you might see evidence on the tires. Phil
  3. I had both things - bulbs went bad, and a bad connector. JAlso after replacing, I apparently did not fully engage the connector and the light went on again, then stopped after I tightened the connector properly. I have been told that when bulbs go out they go out in pairs. I can't speak for anyone else, but this was true for me. I buy sets of bulbs now if/when I need to. Phil
  4. I think he was of the opinion that the rubber would be of a slightly different make-up for the two tires, and that the H rated may not hold up while the V would. I'm not sure this is true, just as you are, but I don't know it is not. Another thread (irregular tire wear), however suggests that lots of suspension parts could be at fault, and this does seem to make more sense. Besides, I'm reading way too many testimonies of those that use H rated tires and had no problems. Is there a way of telling who knows suspensions well enough to diagnose if the problem is shocks, torsion bars or struts, tie rod ends, etc., etc., etc? I would be grateful for any help. Phil
  5. I found that using Son of a Gun or Armour All with an old toothbrush gets the wax buildup out of cracks and then can be wiped clean woth a good rag.
  6. The shop manuals for my 93 LS also say 60K but one dealer told me the shop is using 90K now since they have not seen appreciable wear in any belt pulled even up to 120k. He claims this is system wide (how would we know?) Obviously I can't confirm this, but only report what I heard frome ONE source. Phil
  7. Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like the Continetals are at least a good bet, and maybe the best choice. I had Dunlop Sport A2's (or something like that ) put on and have had terrible trouble with noise and odd wear. It wears like it has bad allignment, but I had 3 or 4 done to no avail. I must also admit to runnig over a hunk of wood early in the life of the tires, had a tie rod end bent back into shape and both ball joints replaced and thought I was good. Just recently, I was told I had upper control arm replaced. Several (what seemed to be) competant people looked at the suspension including two different dealers and everyone said it was good, but the tires kept wearing oddly. I have choppy edges and one or two of the tires have gone odd around. The last person I talked too, a dealer in Chicago that I trust, told me the H rating of the tires is the culprit. Can't handle the car was his opinion. It needs the V rating of the original tires. I'm still thinking it was something in the suspension, and that perhaps the latest control arm replacement will settle this down. Does anyone have experience with this? or an opinion? or something you think I could try? I will need new tires next spring (asssuming I don't go crazy with the rumble of the existing Dunlops) and would like to feel I will not have any wear issues with the new tires.
