  1. I looked up today at Park Avenue Lexus Plano TX dealer(866-429-7725) - they said $211.00 - someone has posted change instruction w/photos somewhere - it is pretty easy. Hope this helps (I will try to upload the instructions - I aded some other info to the doc (lights & filters) but if it helps at all - I did not write them but followed them...did not let me - sorry

  3. [No engine that has had regular oil changes (5,000-7,500 miles) will have sludge. ] Sorry to say my engine has had oil changes every 3-5,000 for the life of the vehicle and now has sludge. And it has had tune ups as well - the car has been cared for - really. Thanks for the other info though - they are fixing my engine and I have opted out of the settlement at the advice of the court appointed 3rd party, so that if I have any future problems after 8 yrs is up - I could still bring them to court if they do not fix it (as I do have sludge b4 warranty is up and proof of maintenance)
  4. My 99 same thing on driver's side - it is easy to deal with on driver's side - I feel safer at night actually just manually unlocking driver door. They wanted about $350 2 years ago.
  5. I took my Lexus in and they wanted $105 to look at i for the oil gel problem. And the settlement isnt that bad. In fact it is pretty good. If you had the problem and fixed it, you can get reimbursed. If you have the problem, they will fix it for you. (Now after saying that I have asked the attorneys why the inspection fee wasnt mentioned in the settlement.) They did not charge me for the inspection...I find it hard to believe they can... anyway not fixed yet and the settlement isn't actually the extended warranty - that was already in place...not really sure what the settlement does except for keeping Toyota upfront about the extended warranty and making them notify us...not sure I have any rights after this year if I have a reaccurrance of sludge or related sludge problems. (no warranty on sludge repair from what I can tell)
  6. So....what happened? They have finally agreed to fix mine - but I have read that repair at high mileage does not last that it should be replaced...but not sure they are obligated to do that...although they should have recalled all these engines as it is why owners have paid the high prices on these autos - because they would last so long, now they are probably having a domino affect on other parts, by, as you say, traveling and clogging up other parts! Interested to find out about yours...my codes say Air Mass filter 2x w/in 14 months and a charcoal cannister...
  7. I brought my car to a non-Lexus garage b/c the engine light kept coming on -no symptoms I could feel. Said the Mass Air Flow Sensor needed to be replaced...and did a few other things for $800. I drove my car about 500 miles and the engine light reappeared - on & off as it had before the repairs. I brought it back and he said could be a 100 different reasons - computer shows "no code" - brought it back for an oil change 2 months later light still on/off - checked again "no code" - light on/off continually - 14 months after replacement took to Lexus re: Oil Sludge car acting a little funny and light acting it's normal on/off. I do now have Oil Sludge and it says I need my Mass Air Flow Sensor replaced - I went back to other garage about the filter that I said did not fix the problem (engine light) within a week of replacement or months after - he said only 12 month warranty. Is an Air Flow Sensor something that should need replacement so often? Why does my engine light stay on/off continually? Any info on this problem - maybe just a bad light or bad code?? Does not really answer aboe question, but just to add to it ... could the light on/off be b/c of the Oil Sludge - would Oil Sludge affect the Air Flow Sensor?? Thanks - really like the site and everyone's info... (RX300 1999)
  8. I have owned a Lexus since 2002 and have never been informed about this until now. Looking thru internet see the WSJ wrote about it in 2004 before I had a Major Tune Up at a Lexus dealership (so, I assume the dealerships knew to look for this) and they gave the vehicle a clean bill of health - I have all my service records since then and now they are denying it covered under Class Action extended Warranty b/c I do not have all my service records from the 2 previous years - I have owned quite a few Toyotas and this service I am getting from Lexus now is very surprising and disturbing - they are treating me very flippant manner -just trying to get me out the door with my Sludge filled engine in tow
