  1. I always drive the car to <30 miles on the meter, and on occasion I have done about 10 miles past the meter. In all instances, I can't say I remember filling up the tank with more then 16 gallons on gas before the pump shut off. Not sure how big our tanks are? 17.4 gal? Guess thats about 1.5 gallons left.
  2. I would like to Thank everyone for their comments and helping me get rid of any doubts I had about going Hybrid. Especially the last couple replies really provided me with the information I was looking for. Thanks fellas! Think those plans are solidified and looking forward to it. Can't exactly say getting an SUV is going Green, but if one is forced down such a path, its not a bad decision! Also, I don't believe the RX400 has the electic heater coil for the Heating Subsystem when the motor is cold and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact the manufactures want to get the engine up to temperature for when its needed. Gotta remember, the electric heating coil would use a lot of energy from the battery.
  3. Hi Guys (and Ladies) New here to the RX and Hybrids in general. Just to give you a quick background, I do not own one at this moment, but seriously considering buying the 2010 RX Hybrid when it comes out. One of the concerns I have is how effective is the Hybrid in Cold Weather. For example, the heater core. How quickly (compared to a non hybrid) does it take for the heater to work and how effective is it? Also, are there any special restrictions one needs to look out for over a gasoline powered car? I'm asking because during the winter, I spend a lot of time skiing in the mountains where it can get close 0 F and the car stays exposed. And of course, after a long day out, the last thing I want is to be in a cold car for the duration it takes to get back to the lodge or any other trips I may make. Thanks Mark
  4. Not to burst your bubble, but $1200 is way too much for oem's or aftermarket. I remember the dealership quoted me a little under 800 for a set of oem's. I've personally switched over to Bridgeston RE960 and really love them. Much quieter then OEM's. But I won't provide a millage report since I got 32k mi out of the factory tires. And there was tread left. Back to the topic, $800 is extremely high, even for a dealer job IMO. I think the alignment part is bs, especially if your car drives straight and tires show no signs of bad alignment. You said you had 21k miles? Then as far as rotors, I would leave them in there, eventually let them shave it done for evenness. As long as you don't go Ceramics, not a problem. But still shouldn't cost you that much. I'd figure you should be able to get into the $300-600 price range.
  5. I too ended up buying the a Tire and Rim Warranty for 5 years... $250, thought it was a good deal. To say the least, it came in very handy and paid for itself already.... NY Pot holes do their damage. Covered all accidental damages and with little hassle.
  6. From what it seems, there are only two viable hacks on the 07. Thats either to actually mod the Nav software. Yes, it seems like Lexus locked in Nav Lock with the Dead Reckoning signal (only affects Navi when you loose 2d Lock). The other option is to change the software which is unlikely anyone will do. Granted, my "concept" that Lexus has used the Dead Reckoning signal (which could be comin from Speed sense) is something I have yet to have tested. But it makes the most sense. There is no easy sol'n involved here. Is anyone familiar with what (if any) signals the Navi unit takes from the CAN-BUS network? I would think at least Navigation signal goes through this. PS> I don't think its as easy as splice a few wires and ground/hot and there you go. Maybe for the partial lock-out yes, but not for full control. I think this has been proven already by another member which will allow you to use Phonebook.
  7. Your not alone... are you specifically referring about the 1st into 2nd shift? When I brought in my car for its first oil change at 5k I made a complaint to the dealer and they told me that a lot of customers are complaining about the same issue and that Lexus was working a "solution". But I have not heard of anything since. Btw, they did test drive it and also found no problems.
  8. Hey guys, Question, for those of you with the Lux Pkg that has the auto dimming side mirrors, do u notice they do not work properly when its cold? Under 40 degrees or so? Cause mine have definitely stopped working in the cold weather. They seemed liked they worked fine last time we had 45 degree weather, but maybe coincidence. and yes, my rear view is dimming fine, so I am assuming the dim signal is coming thru. Any ideas? Temperature cutoff on this feature?
  9. But my question is, how are you guys basing ur MPG estimates? Cause I know in my case when I do total milage over miles driven on a tank my estimates r about 2-3 mpg less then what the computer reads.
  10. Thing is, if he was on 2 satellites, he'd be in dead-reckoning mode and the gps position would be disregarded. And in this mode, his position can fall off over distance driven, but shouldn't drop him 50 miles away. I could see being a few blocks off, but not much more then that. but anyways, have the dealer take a look. Could be faulty receiver or antenna causing your coordinates to be very far off.
  11. Can't say I know the feel of the 18's, but the 17's are pretty bumpy as well. Suspension feels great, but still stiff when it comes to dampening small imperfections on the road. Simply a characteristic of low profile tires and short wheelbase. Tho, one thing thats always bothered me, coming from my first car which was a Chrysler Sebring (was 215/50/17's), its ride did not feel nearly as harsh. The suspension on that car had something like a multi-coil design. Where the compression was variable. Wondering if this concept was implemented in the IS? I would hope so.
  12. The issue at hand here about using the Sharkfin is not the connector imo. Should be easy enough to cut off the connector and install the one used for sirius. The real problem is the frequency band at which the antenna is tuned for. If it is tuned and filtered just for the XM wavelength, then ur Sirius signal will not come thru clearly if at all. Thats really what u need to kno about the Sharkfin. Whats the frequency response of it.
  13. Ya, this is not good. I would think the Oxy Sensor is contanimated by now as well. I'm personally at the 2k mark and have had no CEL as of yet, but like some of you, car looks like it runs rich, exhaust pipe is utterly black like its running extremely rich. I'm starting to think this is a simply a fuel mapping mistake in the computer and not just a part gone bad. this problem is widespread in what seems to be in the colder climates, but not sure how many r affected.
  14. Not exactly sure, but I think your description sounds accurate. The steering is heavier at higher speeds. Though, when talking within the 10-15 degree's off center the response feels very similar to slow speeds and does very little at all about going back to the center point. Let us know how that electric steering mod works if you try it out. I'd be curious to know.
