  1. Use synthetic oil and you won't get sludge. Recomment Amsoil or Mobil 1 (5-30) Change once, drive maybe 1000 miles or so, Then change again. Synthetic will CLEAN the sludge out for you! Get a hold of a toyota dealer and buy their coolant, tranny fluid, filters, etc thru them to save $! Also, toyota publishing has 800 # for a set of manuals - YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU HAVE THEM :D I always Deal with the Local lexus parts store here in KC. They always match a price (internet) for the general maintenance parts I need. Please put your model, year, mileage, any mod.... in your profile to help us answer your questions. 2. I use AMSOIL 5-30W (Im a dealer). It is 100% synthetic! Plus Amsoil oil filter. Started it at 55K on my 99LS; now almost 59K and not a drop leaked/or burned yet.
  3. I think the term BLEEDING - when it refers to the PS systems means: Turning your wheels full left & back full right several times with cap off the reservoir unit. This allows the fluid (AND MORE IMPORTANT, ANY AIR BUBBLES) to cycle thru the hoses and entire system. When it gets back to the reservoir, the air bubbles will rise to top since they are no longer "trapped" within the hose. That's how my 99 service manual describes the way to "bleed" PS lines.... vmf left the cap off overnight after doing this to ensure the air bubbles would "bleed" out. Is this what you meant or did I completely misinterpet?
  4. VMF, Thank you very much. I'll cut n past all of this to a word document for safe keeping! Merry Christmas :D
  5. Steve, I just ordered the Collinite 476s today.. can't wait! Where'd you get this stuff? Sounds perfect for Winter!!! :D
  6. Steve, That's an alarming Rate!! You know, I did have a friend with 01 TL - and he did said the tranny was no good. Only 30-40 K too! Acura has really slipped
  7. vmf, HOW'S this procedure: 1 - remove return hose off PS unit 2 - Put larger Diameter hose (preferrably clear) over return hose and run down to drain into bucket 3- start car and basically add equally as fluid is pumped out 4- stop when fluid is clean, turn off car 5 - replace hose to PS unit 6- keep cap off to bleed air out As option, I may raise up front end and have helper turn steering wheel while I add fluid to help reduce "bleed" as I go.
  8. Thanks VMF, WAS IT IN THAT POST -- "CHANGED MY PS FLUID TODAY"?
  9. Supercat, Oh yeah, about that $165 battery You may get to go into the customer lounge and have some coffe, read the WSJ :D Some stuff - I believe - you can use the dealer. But this wouldn't be one of them. Give us a report!
  10. OK, I've heard enough ;) My 60K sevice is almost due (although I DIY) so I'm adding a PS Flush to the routine to keep my baby in tip top shape. What fluid do I buy (can I use T-IV tranny), how much, etc? VMF or SK, didn't one of you do this recently? I'll check older posts..... Thanks for the INFO....
  11. Supercat, When did you buy your CPO 97 ES? Give us your mileage too.. Assuming around fall of 2000, this means your battery is 3 yrs old. If they didn't replace it - it is now 6+ years old. I just replaced the battery on my 99 LS which was original with the car - so 4 years is about it for a battery of that caliper/ or one from any dealer! Colder weather usually hits a battery hard, and an elderly one usually bites the dust with a change in the seasons.... Let Autozone check it and buy one from them! If you have elec. problem then Lexus may cover it. Most batteries have 2 yr (100%) full replacement so you can't lose even if and elec. problem exists. Take it back in 1 yr, 11 months and get a full replacement if it really is failing!
  12. vmf, the Legend is excellent - I WANTED to buy the RL but WANTED more interior room !!! I told the dealer how I felt about the "flagship" . It should have more separation from the TL. Especially more Interior room. 3-4 Inches+ leg room, 2" head room, 3-4" width and I would have bought the RL. I imagine it's just as reliable as the LS...
  13. Migirdech, Yes, Pictures would be Great!! This procedure could go in the Maintenance Data base - step by step pictures & commentary is the best possible way to show how a project goes! Thanks!
  14. Yes - the TL outsells the RL by 8 to 1 or better.... I drove both. Tried to convice myself the RL was the MOTHER FLAGSHIP; but the TL is far more advanced technically. And a whole lot cheaper!! Once I was at a stop light in the RL, I heard the COOLING FAN come on and it reminded my of my 1985 Accord that I put 227,000 miles on - I just had to walk away..... I was trying to find a car comparable to the LS, but the RL wasn't one of them. Acura makes a solid car though.
  15. OH YEAH - GETSMART! I've always enjoyed MEL BROOKS COMEDY :D
  16. I like being called 99 :D reminds me of an old detective/comedy.. some guy talked in his shoe telephone?.....
  17. So you think the low fuel light is accurate? Just no movement in the needle?
  18. Steve, Very nice! Your knowledge, expertise, and passion is unsurpassed If your ever in the KC area, give me a shout! I'll buy you lunch and we'll talk LEXUS the whole time!
  19. Hey guys, Thanks for the great info on this thread :D I'm gonna pick up some 476s for my LS to get thru the winter and send a JAR to another buddy for Christmas! You guys find the BEST products - and know how to use em!!!!
  20. Sorry Denny, Re - read all the posts. Found my answer........YES!
  21. So will this Collinite product last 3-6 months /or , say 15-20 washings?
