  1. I wouldn't hesitate going to Toyota. Pads cost around $55. All I know is the total price would be 30% (at least) than Lexus. They are an easy part to DIY........would you consider this? VBDenny has a thread on this somewhere......... Trouble is... you very well may need your rotors machined or replaced also.
  2. Craig, I'd go with some NEW CHROME WHEELS W/ TIRES. That way I could switch in Nov - Mar to my original alloys w/ Blizzacks; then the chromey's for the rest of the year :D
  3. HIDS and the wood steering wheel / knob package became standard in 99, But I looked at 2 other 98's that had them also. They were such a popular addition that a lot of 98's got these features and so LEXUS made them standard for 99 and up. I think the 2000 have an auto sensor when on cruise control to match the car infront of you (if you want) - avoids "creeping up" to close. Is that right Jim?
  4. There has been extensive research on the subject....... Look at older threads. Your 90-94 LS IS A NON-INTERFERENCE ENGINE.
  5. Good points on the sockets......... Thanks for the info :D Now, I am wondering if the bolt came out OK
  6. tan & srk, on the side, Do you guys believe 6 pt. sockets are superior (holding power) over 12 point. Because more contact is made on each side of the nut/bolt? 99
  7. deepblue, your experience has occurred several times on this forum. I would say you're about the 3-4th person (I've seen in the forum) to get "yelled" at when asking to match a price. All they would have to say is " I'm sorry sir, this is the lowest price I can give you" blah, blah, blah...... - AND IT WOULD BE OKAY. I will probably buy tires locally.......
  8. I've got an area on the upper glove box/ CD dash area that looks like a piece of tape was on it - it has that "gooey" look which is faintly "white". I've tried everything to get if off. I don't think anyone else has even noticed it but they don't know about all of us "crazy fanatics" here at LOC I'll look it up and give it a shot! Thanks...........
  9. ditto that VB ! VMF - YOU HAVE the passionate pursuit of :D Thank you is all we can say because you give a lot of your time and expertise; THIS IS A GREAT FORUM :D :D 99
  10. Very nice..... :D but shouldn't the stick shift have "blackwood" too? <_<
  11. Meist21, Sorry, this isn't working... I'll PM to you.
  12. Meist21, Here's the diagram - a/c ambient temp sensor (A1) .. Does this agree with your finding? Sorry, just had to keep "pursuing" this for closure :D LS_engineparts.htm
  13. Thanks everyone! This one is on sale for $20 but is only 90W. They advertise it to fit in the cup holder. From the info I'll wait and pick up one with more "juice" when at a good price. 99
  14. Everyone, Now I'm really intrigued ;) Guess I TOO will take a friendly visit to the local LEXUS STORE. You think they'd freak out if I crawled under there and took a photo? 99
  15. 98, Thanks for the avatar compliment! I just used the "vignette" tool in photoshop; had no idea the sky would turn out so cool. How'd you get the 98 with only 45K miles? Must be in IMMACULATE CONDITION :D :D Did you take the photo and add vignette to your signature...looks Great! I CONFESS - YOU GAVE ME THE IDEA I digress...back to the hesitation..... The slight delay is when cruising in OD and then punching it down- otherwise, it is as seemless as can be. I'll try the "manual Stick" method over the weekend - thanks for the info 99
  16. sk, Thank you ! 99
  17. 1) Since the car is 12 years old, the front suspension could be worn just enough. A lot of those cars can have worn bushings or ball joints starting @ 70K. This has been a persistent repair throughout these model years. Check the tires first though; tread wear, balance..... 2) Hesitation is normal - just make sure clean fluid is in the AT! 3) Don't know this one Welcome and enjoy your LS! 99
  18. Meist, I'm still trying to dig the location up - have 99 manual - will try to pinpoint....
  19. Hey guys,, Just saw a add in CompUSA for a device that converts the 12V outlet to 90W electrical plug. I guess you can use it for Small TV, DVD, etc while on a trip. How does this effect Battery/Alternator/Elec System in the LS? Is it totally harmless to the vehicle? Thanks, 99
  20. My wife has 02 Sequoia with 2uzfe engine (4.7 liter) . I noticed the intake manifold "sits higher up and you have more room to see (and hopefully remove) the starter in this engine design. Any thoughts.....
  21. Well, You list another $2K worth of work on it just to start out so that's $11K. I haven't looked up a blue book but a lot of 90-94 owners will chime in soon. How does that rate with the trade you got for your CRV? My feelings are this is much more that you got for the trade in of your previous LS. These cars are expensive to have work on (Lexus) - so are you DIY inclined; it would be hard for me to spend another 20%+ (of my purchase price) for repairs. I think I'd go about $7K.
  22. I finally FLOORED the 99 LS a couple of weeks ago :D I was on an "acceleration ramp" going about 35 mph and "PUNCHED" it. I think it downshifted into SECOND (after brief hesitation) and RPM'S revved up to 5800-6000 before shifting to third.... Then revved up to the REDLINE AGAIN from 3rd to 4th. 90 mph in a flash :D
  23. Paul, Have a 99LS, purchased it over older models just to get VVT engine (290HP) and interior upgrades. Has a touch more legroom and trunkroom with different front grill styling. The engine and 5 speed tranny are on all 98-00 models. I would expect the car to go 300 K Easy if you can drive it that much. My feelings are any Honda or Toyota 4 cyl. will get you 200-225k so this Beautifully engineered V-8 and solid transmission won't fail anytime sooner :D You can do a pan drain on the tranny every 10k and probably NEVER have a problem. Lexus service interval is every 15K and all they do is the pan drain. Takes 2+ quarts.. I actually do it with every oil change @ 5K. I test drove 97-01's from the Lexus dealer over a period of 3-4 months before deciding on the 99. The ride is beautiful...
  24. Actually, You should turn off your car (if its practical) when you will probably be at idle for more than 30 seconds.....even if the car is warm.
  25. Tan ON the cold upshifts:---the transmission shifts are changed by engine temp and trans. oil temp.; ie: 3rd upshift will NOT occur if coolant temp is under 95 degrees and speed is less than 25MPH['93:AT49] Why is this? it shifts immediately from 1st to 2nd but does HANG just like you say - Is it just the LS's way to help Warmup Quicker. Your numbers are accurate - it does shift if I get to 25+pmh ( or around 2600 rpm). 98LS - I do notice it because the LS is "silky smooth" otherwise.
