  1. Yeah......... 99 mph for 3rd gear about 130 for 4th....... and of course......158+ using the all out OD sounds like they did change the gearing to make it quicker 0-60 for the Gen III's
  2. Shame on you K9 for letting that fuel filter go 7k over the limit!!! Seriously, I think it a good fix.........let us know!!! BTW.......we (family) may be coming to Hawaii in a few weeks!!!! I'll let you know if it's happening!!
  3. It should shift first to second gear real quick......the hangup you talk about is from second to third in my car. Check again and see if its really a 2nd to 3rd gear shift..... This is the way Lexus designed it....I don't like it either, but that's the way it is. MIne does the same thing - although now that summer is hear mine will shift much quicker and is hardly noticable. It is only a morning thing like you say.... The shift point @ 25 mph is per specs if the coolant temperature is below 100 degrees or so. A quick shift to second and then it hangs until 25 mph or 2500 rpm before going to third gear. Second gear is synched up to match mph x 100; so the redline for second gear is 60 mph @ 6000 rpm. WE would never think a think about it if the LS wasn't so smooth everywhere else.......
  4. HI k9!!!!! Sometimes I wonder if that stuff knocks some crud off just enough to clog an injector or something? The fuel filter is a good guess. Mine was changed at 60K that is part of regular maintenance schedule. It was dirty.....but normal. The cleaner could have fouled the current old filter in your lexi with more debris. So, its time anyway to change the fuel filter reqardless of the additive........but the additive could very well have attributed to the problem. 99
  5. Fuel system chapter in my manual is pretty thick.......lots of stuff already mentioned plus the : MAF, VVT sensor, throttlebody, vapor sensors, knock sensors, etc... But the common main components are above the diffy as VMF pointed out. Fuel filter needs replaced every 60K (or probably 5 years) and the injectors can get clogged occasionally.
  6. Clean the three magnets in the pan to get the metal shavings off........well, actually, clean the whole pan!! And check/clean the screens too......let us know how they look. Why are you taking the pan off????? Leak around gasket???? Good Luck! Torque on those 19 bolts is only 65 inch lbs...........so be careful and use a pattern to tighten.
  7. You should take it back to the dealer and have them drain and refill to the proper level.........If they won't, get your $$ back and forget them. This is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me from dealers. YOu can do this with less $$ and more precision than any dealer. Torque on the drain bolt is 15 ft lbs....that is not very much so I'm certain they've already overtightened it. It is not a good to overfill........leads to foaming and awkward shifting performance.
  8. here's some torque specs........... comp.pdf
  9. west. Ok dude, your scaring me!!!! I have 99LS, and 02 Sequia.......and yes; I buy my oil filters from Toyota too! We play golf, have great families..........life is good!! 90LS, Check your oil level before you leave the dealer........They usually leave it 1/2 quart low. I like it just under the full mark, so make them top if off perfect. Another reason I DIY......just picky I suppose ;)
  10. 90LS, Yes - I do have the larger HID headlamps w daylight runners...........standard on 99's and up.........introduced on the 98 and was so popular , Lexus made it std. This is a slightly darker Gold than the previous years so I would guess it is the : Mystic Gold Metallic Like mine!!! (JUst a low angle sun shot) No generation gaps here at LOC - total class all the way
  11. I put several things together; First, your reflection on the hood of your ES......pretty clever huh!!!! You've mentioned several times about your Dad's LS.....98 & 02???? So I figured he was close to 50 or so......... And you've mentioned a "Fiance'" a few times......... Hence my guess in the mid-20's....??????? Also, Not many people in their fifies detail OTHER owners vehicles for fun on the weekends........not saying it doesn't happen........but just more logic. You do a great job Steve! Whata ya think of my investigative skills???
  12. Ok swo........ you're 27!
  13. from what I understand: CV joints on FWD 's allow the axles to spin at different rates between the outside tire (on curves) and the inside tire........ They're under constant engine/transmission load and because they're flexible........they wear faster.... Plus the boots are much more prone to cracking to to more heat buildup....that's when the grease gets out and it's all downhill once dirt & grime get into the joint!
  14. Oh........ That could be the rear main seal :o If so, this is not good - a $20 gasket plus $500 labor to get the tranny off :(
  15. Craig, I think this could be a good idea............ Is it anywhere on this diagram? comp.pdf
  16. Could be my color: Mystic Gold Metallic - a new color introduced in 1999.
  17. Craig, Gotcha dude!!! I'll check into it and get back to you tomorrow.........!!!!!!111
  18. It gives horizontal support to the lower suspension arm - keeping it from moving front to rear and vise versa.... I think it would tear up the lower susp. bushings quicklly...........
  19. Are you sure a bolt hasn't just come loose................when something ratttles, its usually loose. Like something came apart from a bracket or similar???
  20. Strut bar bushings will wear out..........commonly when you hear a big "clunking" sound as you hit pothole(s) - this is the culprit..... Here's the info: comp.pdf
  21. I have a suspicion the solenoid valve screen is completely clogged up and attributing to the leak. Since all is near lost, I'd take a look at it and clean it out first......
  22. Here's a link: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...36&hl=air+valve You can just plug the two connections leading out - this would affect you steering @ idle though. The valve is letting PS fluid pass up and into your valves........this is why your getting the puffs of smoke......
  23. I've will hit 6 months and about 4700 miles next weekend.......that's my next change (to busy over Father's day) I used to put 15-17K a year on my car.........but now we drive my wife's Sequoia everywhere ;)
  24. BTW, While you have the pan off: check and clean the ATF metal screens on the oil strainer. remove, clean, and replace the magnets located in the pan that collect worn shavings. 99
  25. Like Mr. Ferrari says............its not the diffy. Your may be looking @ the tranny itself......or the pan?? is it retacngular with the long sides running from front - back under the car??? Is the fluid a tinted red color?? If it is the tranny pan: You'll need new gasket goo around the entire pan.....a continuous bead 2-3mm in width: Part NO 08826-00090, Three bond 1281 or equivalent Mine has 19 bolts......torque is only 65 in lbs per bolt. Finger tighten and alternate sides as you tighten W/ wrench......
