  1. It mostly helps with the air noise.....keeps it down a little--- No biggie that its gone - don't worry about it.
  2. I don't know why people take that cover off - you don't need to - but it happens all the time. The cover is curved around the oil drain plug area and a small flap bends back to remove the Oil filter Yes, if this was a typical oil change place they just left it off and probably threw it in the trash :chairshot:
  3. The dealer is playing dumb.............Don't let them get away with it They know where the car was, and what it's been thru.......... I agree with Jaylin - keep the pressure on!
  4. No sport suspension available on the Gen III's............ If you have air suspension there is a Height Control Sensor Link located near the base of the shock - on the lower bracket .........The air tube connects on the engine side of the shock.
  5. Welcome to LOC........... I think mine are 30%..........legal in Missouri: PGAWEST.............sweet ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. 90LS, I would NOT put any slick 50 or similar additive in your engine!!!! Keep your oil changes @ 3-4K miles and you'll get another 100K no problem (engine wise). I suspect a cleaning of the throttle body will help eliminate these "pulses" you have mentioned.........
  7. Welcome to the midwest Pete!!
  8. JPI ---- I hope so Maybe in 30K miles I'll make a trip to Dallas and see some family - I'll let you do the TB change You're a great sponsor - thanks for the input!!
  9. acf. I think you're in good shape. Either the insurance company or the dealer is going to pay...... The dealer MUST disclose to you that the car was 'salvaged'........they are in deep trouble. (Although I'm sure there is a possibility they can "squirm" out of it somehow.....) You'll be OK.............my guess is "way OK!!"
  10. its 90K on the mileage............ Only $1500 for the entire 90K service at our local KC lexus shop ;)
  11. its a precautinary matter, but i would recommedn chenging it ewbven if its not failing. check if oil is not leaking from it and if you can press it in. btw new tensioner would be bigger and its gonna be new. since u chanig everything why not change it as well? I agree totally with VMF........... Why take a chance on this part failing...it's cheap, you've already got the engine apart..........do it man! I wouldn't trust what the dealer says.......maybe its a part that WILL FAIL and they're just hoping it does.......then they can guilt trip you into bringing the LS in for their shop to do and charge the big $$$!
  12. that's what I was thinking of................... I'm putting this under my Automotive>favorites menu!!!
  13. Like UZ says........... for ex: a classic case of worn ball joints & tie rod leads the steering to constantly "wander". Then you have to "tug" the steering wheel a bit, only to follow with another "tug" as the car won't hold a straight line. The joints have worn down to "flat spots" that "catch" and you have to jerk the wheel to pull them away from the worn area..........only to find another worn area................ Vibration and worn tires are the damage - along with a lousy ride ;)
  14. I love to maintain the LS. Like many of us, I'm tedious and exacting!!! I'm in & out for the next couple of weeks (busy!) but I'll be glad to help you out by mid July.
  15. I drove a 01 ls430 before I purchased my 99 LS..........(1 year ago this month) I thought it (the 430) was quieter, more interior room for sure.....but the ride was pretty much the same as you suggested.
  16. 90k is the right mileage......... VMF has done this job do a search on "timing belt replacement" - you'll find it. " Lexetreme" is also a good search keyword. GOod luck - I'm impressed you're willing to tackle it
  17. Bad tie rod ends...........or ball joints? Do you have to "jerk" it back in line........?
  18. Yes.....I would. You can get them @ walmart, autozone, etc..........$30 or so. they'll hold 9000 lbs+ .......There are a couple different kinds: 9k & 12K....
  19. Same exact ones on my radio. What I'm fishing for is whether Lexus covers this without complaint, or you have to fuss a bit. If it occurs frequently, I'd like to get it replaced now and then again just before my warranty wears out in 3 years! Bob Let me know how it comes out!!
  20. Add me to the list of missing LCD #'s........... They are all on the stereo ; far right - as it counts the Min, secs on whatever CD is playing. All other LCD's are okay............ My 99LS came off a 4 yr lease - I bought it at auction thru a friend - had 53K on it; now has 64K. NO other issues - smooth machine!! You should be worry free :D
  21. LSBlake, welcome to LOC.........the best Lexus forum around!!! There is a ton of information on this subject. Type in "power steering pump" and other variations in the search index and you'll get all you need.... Also, type in "power steering solenoid" in the search.........I think you may want to look into cleaning the screen to alleviate higher "back pressure" which will attribute to the leak.
  22. Adam8g, I agree with jzz30........ BTW - Killer Avatar (SR 71?)
  23. Hehe, 1,000,000 me too! Realistically, I'm hoping for 400k-500k. I'm at 231k right now; I expect the engine will go on forever, but I have a feeling that the tranny will go around 300k(I do regular fluid changes, and shifts are very smooth, but the hard lurch is not a promising thing.) Blake, I think I remember a thread about that lurch...........didn't Lexus put a TSB out on the ECM of the 95-97 LS's to fix the "lurch"??????
  24. I agree with Richard.............. Rhino Ramps are the only reason I get under my LS for service.............
