  1. i have the same issue with my 98 gs400. i had the ball joints replaced recently and now i ahve the VSC, VSC on and the check engine light on. blairgs, i looked for the part on lexuspartsworld and could not find it. any suggestions? how involved was the process to replace the TPS? thanks,
  2. hi, i had the brake pads front and back, rotors front and back as well as the right front caliper replaced on my 98 gs 400. at slow speeds and under braking, while i move the steering wheel, i hear a metallic grinding sound from the right front. i had the brake work done because of this sound. any suggestions on what this sound could be? Tia,
  3. I'd really appreciate it if you could look into it. i contacted PepBoys and received a quote for front and rear pads and rotors for $360. they use after market parts. Raybestos PG+ Brake Pad any recommendations?. i will contact the dealership to find out if they saw brake fluid or a line leak? thanks a bunch Mileage won't have anything to with the caliper itself, but if they are seeing brake fluid and it's not a line leak, then your probably losing a piston seal. In that case, yes, you should have the calipers replaced. They are not cheap though. At 140k miles, I would seiroulsy consider aftermarket calipers. You'll save hundreds. In fact, I would put power slot rotors on, and EBC Green brake pads. and get calipers. ( I can look into it for you but I think they have a trade out program where you get rebuilt calipers and give them your used ones and they charge less. Of course that means no brakes until you send them the calipers and they send you the rebuilt ones. anyway, you would end up with a way better braking and half the cost.
  4. smooth1, the reason i mentioned the calipers is coz the toyota dealership that diagnosed the problem mentioned replacing the calipers. i ave 140k on my car. what mileage should calipers be replaced at, if at all? they did not mention a mechanical failure. pads and the rear rotor since it was corroded. they did mention some fluid that they saw. also, is there anyone in the Indianapolis that could help me with replacing the brake pads? the dealership is charging me and arm and a foot. TIA,
  5. I have a 98 GS 400. Does anyone know of places where I could buy GENUINE toyota parts? i'm looking for front/rear brake pads, front/rear calipers as well as rear rotor? toyota dealership diagnosed that i have 4-5mm on front pads and 3-4mm on rear as well as corrosion on rear rotor. also with rotors an brake pads, what toyota model compares to the 98 gs 400? thanks in advance
  6. i have noticed a strange sound from my gs400 at low speeds. when i turn the steering wheel at rest or at low speeds, there is a creaking/metallic sound from the right front wheel. it like a metal-on-metal sound it only occurs at low speeds. there are sometimes when the sound occurs a lot and then it goes away for a several weeks. it is also most noticeable when the car is cold. it has happened a lot lately, specially under braking at low speeds. could it be brake pad wear or do i have an axle problem any suggestions, thanks
  7. more of a clicking sound. no screeching.

  11. every time i turn the car in a wide/sharp left turn, i hear a sounds like the tyre is scraping against something. this started this morning. the only thing that has happend to the car this morning is that while pulling into a parking spot, i scraped the front bumper against the concrete stopper in tha spot. any ideas on how to make this sound go away? thanks
  12. thanks for the info. i had my car atken to autozone for a routine diagnostic and they told me i needed to replace calipers, rotors and pads. the problem with the brakes is that they make a weird noise when i brake. also, when i turn to the right, the right fron wheel is the problematic one, and step on the brakes, it makes the same noise. any ideas? thanks,
  13. i've had regular srvices on the car. the mileage is 140k. thanks, not knowing your service history and mileage i don't know if we can comment i'm wondering what is wrong with your calipers that would require them to be replaced rather than rebuilt...?
