  1. [i agree.. Doing it yourself always wins.. waterpumps go at about 90,000- 100,000 on their own.. just the facts of life... might as well replace all the other stuff since u got the hood up and the car will really run great... since ur getting tires rotate probably need an alignment also... perhaps a suspension check .... Having a car is just great aint it?
  2. They are good cars.. however.. Honestly speaking.. Their may be a few repairs in its future for you.. and its just that sometimes things go wrong cause of age.. but all in all they are good cars...
  3. Yeah i agree.. I think he meant head light assembly... depending on what he wants to charge for the brand new part.. u might want to look on good ole' ebay for it.. save some cash
  4. I use synthetic in my ls430, bmw 740il, and chevy tahoe... all penzoil ... and they are great.. i buy the 5qt at walmart for 19.98 then go to Autozone and get the Bosch filter for about 4 bucks.. and im set to go... 3 synthetic oil changes would cost me over $150.00 I save about $80.00 when i do it myself
  5. I have this exact same problem in a 2002 Ls430 with 51,000 miles.. It wont lock or unlock along with the other doors.. also hitting the remote lock or unlock does not do it either.. Im lost
  6. I know exactly what is wrong because sometimes mine does that... Dont force it.. THe problem is that your steering wheel isnt turned correctly.. Gently turn the wheel from right to left and gently try to shift as you are doing it.. It will magically go out of drive
  7. I have read some great answers... And they are right about the fuel pump needing cooling.. and also water pumps, fuel pumps need liquids to run through them or they will burn out.. Also.. I used to run my cars especially the lexus "UNDER THE RED LINE" and finally i started keeping it over 1/2 tank and I can honestly notice a differece... More gas.. better ride
  8. Hey... I think u did a great job with the lexus.... These cars are kinda tricky when it comes to getting new rims and tires and tint.. Ive seen a few that people screwed up with the wrong rims and stuff.. But yours.. looks great... As far as the rubbing... Youre going to need to get stiffer suspension in the back.. It wont cause a rough ride.. but it will keep them from rubbing... DONT GET RID OF THE RIMS.. GET GET THE SUSPENSION TIGHTENED UP AND PUT THOSE RIMS BACK ON....
  9. Yup.. I have to agree.. my 2002 does the exact same thing.. These cars dont want to be out in the cold... I dont blame them 1 bit...
  10. Well.. Ive heard that synthetic blends are not that great.. The have no increase in performance over regular oil... Plus they have to be changed as regular as ordinary oil.. around 3-4,000 miles Go ahead and get the full synthetic oil... Mobil 1 has 100% synthetic oil that is GUARANTEED for 15,000 miles Yup I said it.. 15,000 miles... 5 quart container at walmart for $28.00.. Thats 1 oil change a year.. Maybe 2 if you want to play it safe.... Another good brand is penzoil and castrol... Anything else is JUNK... sorry...
  11. Here are a few questions.... 1. What kind of gasoline do you use.. Not all gas is the same... Cheap gas is cheap for a reason.. I know we all get cheap gas sometimes.. But its called cheap because it is a lower quality... And lexus is a higher quality car.. Also what octane level do you use... 2. What kind of spark plugs did you use? Brand.,,. 3. What kind of oil do you use 4. ARe you o-rings in good shape.. 5 How about your cylinders.. are they clean looking and slightly greased on the wall
  12. Hey... They are both great years.. Both reliable cars.. Some people will have horror stories with a brand new Rolls Royce others can drive a rusted out 85 toyota corolla for 1Million miles.. Its just a gamble... But You should be ok.. Make sure you get a "GOOD WARRANTY"... Some people debate that warranties are a waste of money... But warranties is just another form of insurance.. You hate to pay for it.. But someday you will need it.. Even great cars need repairs .. ITs a fact of life.. they are mechanical and they are expensive.. So. GET A WARRANTY Think about this... 1. Lexus repair could offset the price of the warranty costs... 2 Lexus repairs will mean that you paid off your warranty costs and received a FREE REPAIR.... Make sure you get a carfax... ALSO.. VERY IMPORTANT>>>> Make sure you have the car fully inspected at another reputable Lexus dealer different from the one you are buying it from
  13. Im sure if you do your homework.. Youll get a good deal.. Go to Ebay and look up the same year and similar miles.. and then add a few thousand 1-3k usually... And that should give you the street value.... If they dont like your price.. Go somewhere else... 50 grand is a lot of money.. Make sure they really want your business
  14. [Hey.. I got to this post late.. But the answer is YES.. THe car can be driven without the key.... There are a few ways..... 1. A RFID Recorder... It records the radio frequency that the key sends to the ignition are you insert the key into the ignition.. That frequency when read.. Tells the ignition and cars computer that this is a correct key and allows the car to be started.. SO.. I could walk by your pocket and be near your car when you go to start your car and record your keys frequency.... 2. There are a few groups of highly intelligent software developers that write software that disables the rfid requirement and then bypass it and start it with a screwdriver 3. They could have copied your vin Number and then went to the dealership and requested another key.. DO you think the dealer is going to ask for proof that you own the car.. ABSOLUTELY NOT... If 1 dealer did.. There are 1,000 dealerships in any city within a 1 hour radius... Thieves that steal high level cars (lexus, benz bmw etc.) are highly intelligent and they know how the cars security features work and they also know the software's weakpoints
  15. Sorry for getting to this post late... But I have a 2002 Ls 430 with 48k and it makes the exact same noise when the ac is on .. When you turn the ac off.. The noise goes away... Dealer has no idea what the noise is
