  1. Dan....Quebec has a law that makes it mandatory to drive in winter on winter tires correct? No it is not mandatory, some of us (idiot) still think 4 season tires will do the job. It is maybe ok in the big cities where they remove the snow rapidly. But this year is a lot different than the few last 5-6 years. WE ALREADY RECEIVED MORE THAN 2O CENTIMETER MORE THAN IN THE COMPLETE LAST YEAR... DTM
  2. Both are right... get some real winter tires ... I know I live in Quebec and this year even my 2 years old winter tires didn,t do the job...
  3. Hi everyone... I dont know if it was because of yesterday night temperature, (-32 celcius) or something else, (I am a teacher, and it's exam time once again) but this morning when i backed up from the driveway, i noticed that my spoiler was broken in 4 pieces.... I have check already on e-bay for a replacement, but it seem now, that many american entreprises (I am from Quebec) have no desire to ship their products to Canada anymore.... So, I am asking all of you, if someone got a rear wing (spolier) that they have change for a better looking one and collecting dust in the garage, and is willing to sell it at a fair price and to ship it across the north border. Did something similar ever happen to one of you or am I just cursed ????? I will also continue to check for a replacement one from scrap auto part on this side of the border. Danthecursedman
  4. Yes All the oxygen sensor were Denso and spark plugs too.
  5. Hi I've just had changed my 4 oxygen sensor a month ago... (Spark Plugs (IK20), K&N air filter, oil, also) Now this morning the light came on again... (engine light) I tought this light was just for faulty oxygen sensor. I didn't have time again to do get the code, but is there a lot of other problem this light is good for ???? Again the same stange thing,,, 3000 kms between the reset (to zero from the previous oxy. sens. change) and this time for the light to come on again. Just like something already set in the computer by Lexus, just to make us pay again... I have ride the car for about six month before deceiding myself to change the sensor (winter time) and eveytime I unplugged the battery to reset the computer and dash light, and strangly the engine light was light ing up always around 3000 kms, Very strange... DTM
  6. Me too... After checking all over the place, i could only find replacement shock from 279$ to 325$ each (UAP-NAPA-CAR QUEST) so i deceided to call my Lexus dealer to see how they were, to find out that the original part were only 79.95$ each shock (canadian) and 115$ each for the springs. Very resonable
  7. So Ok, Now after 5 days, I must admit that I don't have more power (the car is still 300 hp) but what i can tell you is: the car run better, accelerate better and run great. Maybe my old sensors were very bad, I don't know maybe. It fell like a new car (maybe this is just in my head) and this make me happy. I love this car, the best car I ever had, even more then all the mustangs, barracuda and MG's I had before. I just ordered a K&N air filter, maybe this will add up a little extra more too. Now, how long do you keep your spark plugs before changing them. And, do you change them because it's time to change them or because you need to change them. Mine are already 165000 kms and still seem very good... DTM
  8. Well, yesterday i had my four oxygen sensors replaced... (gs400 1998) And, is it all in my head or does it seem that i get more power from the car ???? The car seem more powerfull : just after one mile away from the garage where I had them installed, at a red light a deceided to floor the car just to see it's reaction, and the rear wheels spinned for about 35 feet (maybe a bit more). Before the change, the car would start very fast but not spinning really... The car had 169.000 kms on the speedometer (103.000 miles) so after asking my beloved lexus stealer how much to changed the four sensor (1500$ canadian dollars installed), I deceided to order them from the U.S. market and paid only 428$ U.S., talk about a saving, so it didn't bother me to pay for four of them. My mechanic charged me 50$ to installed them, not too bad. (1 hour) Also, I tought this maintenance would stabilise my rpm : sometime the car at a red light rev only about the first to the second line in the speedometer (125 to 250 rpm), but this sensors replacement didn't changed nothing, but even at this low rpm the car run great. I also noticed that at this low rev, if I press on the a/c switch, the engine rev up to 600 - 700 rpm. So is it in my head or do car the car run faster, does this happened to some of you ???? Next maintenance gonna be to change the spark plugs... I will also check for some better fuel mileage...
  9. Thanks Chuck for the link. I am still not deceided if I should go with this but I will give it a more serious look before making my final decision.Anyway I still have to wait a few more week, because it still to cold to do it outside, i dont own a garage (next on my wish list). Thank again
  10. Hi every one... I would like to find out if many of you did changed their spark plugs on a gs 400 (1998) by themselve ???? On the driver side, it seem fairly easy, but on the passenger side it is an other storie... So before adventuring in unknowed land I would like to know what you did, what kind of difficulty I am looking for, and how long it took you from start to finish,,, Would you do it again or send it to a mechanic ???? I have no problem opening up my motor bike or working all over my mustang, but i found this car (gs400) intimidating when its time to work on it. Maybe because i know for sure it's gonna cost me a bundle if I do it wrong... Dantheman
  11. Hi Telefunken and other... After reading carefully your link (Pdf) for Diyer, me too, I am in the same situation... Both rear door (On my gs400 1998) lock/unlock and window work fine from front control, but when I open any of the rear doors the courtesy light doesn't come on. Strange. From your link for the pdf, the only test to be made is only for the lock/unlock switch to be verified not the light... (didn't see any mention about light) So my rear doors lock/unlock work very well but not the light when I open any of the rear door. And I didn't want to pay the stealer over 700$ to have this repaired. If anybody else find an answer for our problem please let us know... Thank again Dantheman
  12. Hi everyone... Just last week I changed my summer rims (17 inches lexus original mags with yokohama tires) to my winter rims (16 inches black steel rim with michelin tires) I live in Quebec, so it's a must during winter season... Wow! what a difference, I mean those winter tires are so quiet. Now is it just me or in fact the yokohama summer are a lot noisier??? I bought the car last february and didn't really noticed the difference in may when I changed the rims for summer's one. And last question, what are you driving as the most but not necessarely extreme sportive (not the most expensive) quiet 17 inches summer tires on your gs 400 ???? What would be a good choice for my next quieter summer tires, not yokohama for sure???? Thank again Dantheman
  13. Thanks again but the toink-toink that i hear every time i go from drive to reverse to drive is too noisy to be normal and i have also check for the universal joint, but if you check on your car (gs400 98) you will find that they are not made lilke american car or other car i have owned before. They are like 0ne inch thick, 5 inches diameter rubber disk bolted from the transmission to the drive shaft and from the drive shaft to the differential. So that is why i was suspecting the differential. (at the REAR) :whistles: Thank again Dantheman
  14. Hi. bought my gs 400 98 in february with 95k on it, now noticing some kind of a little loose in the differential when i change transmission from drive to reverse. I put the car on a lift on gave a look under : the drive shaft and the transmission look ok (but i am no expert) the only place i founded some loose is when a started rotating one rear wheel back and foward, i had to turn like one quarter of a revolution to fill it against the gear from side to side, so that why i conclude the problem is in the differential... Is this problem ever occured to someone else, and is this problem can be fix without having to change the differential completly??? All input will be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Just went to the stealer... Got a rendez-vous on the second of june.... ( in fifteen days!!!) <_< Thank again all Dantheman
