  1. It will never happen. Lexus had made sure of this as they did both a hadware and software lockout. They don't believe that it is safe for the drivers of the world to touch the screen while driving. Sorry!
  2. !Removed! luck! Been there, done that ... they don't care!
  3. This command sequence does not work with verion 6.01 for those who have not seen the posts in other users groups. Lexus has locked out the end user from having access while driving. We are so lucky that Toyota/Lexus is taking care of our safety.
  4. Sorry to tell you this but Lexus removed the unlock capability in 2007. There is nothing that can be done with the exception of having a mechnical switch and dash board wiring. The only other thing I have read on this forum is that you can make a new DVD by using the version 5.x and your current Denso 6.1. If you read through the posts on this subject you will find extensive trial and failures for the new Lexus models. I wish you the best and congrats on the new car! Happy New Year!
  5. I guess it's time for my input on this issue. The Lexus NAV Gen 5 has a great graphic quality and very good detail. The user interface is quite good when you are parked; however, it has no value when driving. The voice commands only have about 130 on the list and the computer can only hear understand them when you are in a very quite are and little to no car noise. The voice commands do not have any value as they only work when you are at the correct screen as the computer is not smart enough to change the display to the correct screen. The route preview is very good and fun to show off to your friends and family. It is really not that easy to learn as I come from owing a 2003 Honda Accord with their 3rd Gen NAV. Let me give you an example of the Honda NAV. All voice commands work regardless of road noise. Any person can use it with "NO TRAINING"!. What you think and say works and below are just a few examples and all are when driving down the highway! a. Find the nearest gas station! A list is displayed showing in order the closest, arrow and direction from your current position. You can then say to display the nearest or just say which one you would like. Yes, Lexus will show you a list if you stop the car. b. Find nearest Gas Station, Hospital, ATM, American Resturant, Fast Food Resturant, Golf Course, ... the list is about 300 just for this category. c. What time is it, AM Radion On, FM Radion On, RM Station 1, 2, 3 etc. CD Play disk 1, 2, 3. Passenger temperature 65 degrees, Temperature 70 degrees. How long or how far to destination. You would never need a manual to use this. Say what you think and it displays it with very few exceptions. I am surprised that Lexus/Toyota did not learn how easy the NAV should be not to mention the lack of being able to use it if your driving. The other day I took a 300 mile trip and wanted to find a rest area. I had to pull off the highway and plot a course to the nearest rest area even with the passenger in control of the NAV. Yes, I know that Lexus/Toyota are concerned about safety. If that's the case then why did Honda/Acura figure out how to use a voice command list that is so extensive and works in all noise conditions. Well, that's about all I have to say about this. I am so tired of the Lexus hype. It's a good car but as all things, it's not the best from bumper to bumper. What can I say, hype sells! Happy New Year!
  6. Lexus of Porland told me that under 5k miles the value drops about 15% below MSRP; however, if they were selling it they would charge about the same. It's what ever the market will take.
  7. It shows how to intialize another set of sensors. The sensors first must be entered into the computer registry so the system will recognize them. All the dash button does is to initiailize at the pressures you want to run. Once all that is done then you can easily switch between your summer and winter tires/wheels by selecting tire set 1 or tire set 2. ok, how in the heck will Lexus figure out what sensors are on the wheels I have? wonder if I need to contact tirerack? or do they have a machine that can find them? Each time new sensors are purchased and installed you can not set the new pressure level and keep the data in the computer of the vehicle. I watched how they do the process. Each new sensor is connected to a Lexus computer database and logged by the serial number and vehicle VIN number. After this is loaded into their computer the data is then downloaded into your vehicle system setup. They then installed the sensors in the tire and set the initial pressure levels. It seems really stupid that this needs to be done as it tends to make the consumer buy tires from Lexus which is what I think they want.
  8. I purchased four new snow tires for my Lexus from Les Schwab and asked they to install tire pressure sensors as well. Les Schwab purchased the sensors from Lexus of Portland and installed them. After I picked up the car all seemed OK; however, the low tire sensor light and check system diagnostic indicator came on. Each time I tried to reset the tire sensor level the check system alarm continued to come on. Les Schwab continued check the tire pressure and all seemed OK. I then took the car to Lexus of Portland and they told me that sensors can not just be installed and have the car reset the sensor level. It turns out that new sensors must be registered via Lexus with their computer system and into your vehicle memory. This cost me an additional $190 after buying the tires and paying $145 per sensor from Lexus of Portland parts department. Yikes! :chairshot:
  9. My 18" summer tires were purchased at Les Swhawb in Wilsonville, OR and are the Toyo Proxies 4 High Performance. http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires.asp?l...;category=sport They cost $189 each and have a written guarantee of 45,000 if rotated every 5000 miles. The Winter tires from Les Schawb are the Toyo 17" Observe http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires.asp?l...category=winter They cost me $168 each and have a written guarantee for 45,000 as well of which I will run for about 4-5 months of the year. At then end of the day this is still a good deal to me and Les Schawb has done a fine job over the last 20 years as well. The 40% is calculated by the standard deviation of the variable time of the tire swab (on-off time) when in use or not. You get more time with the swap. The bottom line... if you can buy a Lexus who really cares what the tires cost ... they are fun to dirve and there is a cost tied to luxury at the end of the day or we would all just drive a Kia. Ha Ha
  10. I installed High Performane 17" Tires on my Factory Stock Wheels. They have done excellent traction in deep snow and ice that I have been on in the Northwest. I keep my 18" Chrome Bling wheels and performance tires in the garage for better weather. I have always had two sets of tires and this will give you almost 40% more wear on all your tires as well. With regards to the sensors, I just picked them up from Lexus and gave them to my tire store, Les Schawb, and they installed them and reset the pressure level as well. What is really great about IS family is that they allow you to have to pressure level settings. One for your main tires and the 2nd for your winter tires so it knows what tires are mounted on your vehicle. Have a great holiday! Steve
  11. The 3M Scotch Guard is a high impact clear adhesive material that is custom applied to the full nose of the car. The side front panels by the head lights, installed on both the mirror's in the front and inside all four of the handles to keep key, ring and finger scratches from getting on the pait. It lasts about 5 years and can be re-done as well. It costs from $895 - $1150 depending on who you have do it. Lexus marks it up about 30% but they make sure it's right and will keep putting it back on if for any reason you are not happy or if it should ever come loose for 4 years or 48,000 miles. This also protects your paint from UV effects over time as well. Below is a link to the product. Good Luck ... http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_U...=AbcPageHandler
  12. I had my first oil change at Lexus of Portland this week and they did a very good job. Much to my surprise they noticed that my 3M scotch guard mask was not done well so they had a new mask put on the hood and mirror. In addition, when I got my XM Radio they originally mounted the antenna on the rear part of the trunk and today then removed it and installed the XM into the fin in the hood. They told me that with the 2007's the XM should be done in the Fin and on of the younger installers did the trunk in error. Thank you Lexus of Portland! ;)
  13. I had my Lexus in for an oil change today and they told me the ticking is very normal and has to due with the high performance fuel injection system and not to worry.
  14. Well, I must say that with my IS250AWD with Snow Tires did better in the weather this weekend and up at Mt. Hood, OR. I was able to deal with very heavy snow when other SUV's were having trouble. This car is so much better in snow than ever expected. I selected the IS250AWD in lieu of the powerful IS350 and very glad I did. Great control in all weather and still very quick. Great job Lexus!!!
  15. Will you be able to share the details on how to do this? I got to drive the GS330AWD for a couple weeks and the 5.01 override works great! If only on the IS250AWD as well. Thank you and great job.
  16. I tried and looked at both of these as well. I felt that Lexus had the following that was better. a. less road noise b. better and tighter in the turns c. much better looking body lines d. interior looked much cleaner and tight seams ... pure quality to the max. e. the radio with or without the ML is better f. more options and costs less than the G35 g. better resale value by a large margin This is just a start. If you do some internet research you will see a mixed bag; however, for the money, you will find that Lexus gives you much much more for the investment. I know it's a difficult decision and everyone has their expectation. For me the Lexus was top in the class. I drove the IS350 and my neighbor and I got to race at oval track and I did much better with AWD in the turn and he was able to kick my butt in the straight's. The IS250AWD is very fast in the PWR MODE and when using the sport shift mode it can get up to 60MPH only 2.5 seconds behind the IS350 so who cares unless you are going to race. Good luck with your decision! Regards ...
  17. Yes you can! I did it yesterday and there is plenty of room. Just be sure to cover the tires/wheels in plastic cover to protect the car.
  18. I just installed v6 about a week ago and the hack is the same as the previous versions. I'm sorry to report that version 6.1 by Denso does not work with the old "Volume" hack. Lexus "Toyota" has now prevented end users from using a key combination to bypass the lockout when driving.
  19. Nope! This is the mosted asked question.
  20. Dr. Gee and Statman, I have a 2006 GX470 with Nav & RSES. The hack works for me in park and while in motion. These are the steps I follow: 1. Hit the "Menu" button 2. Press "Volume" icon on the screen 3. Press top left of screen 4. Bottom left 5. Top left 6. Bottom left The service menu screen appears. 7. Press and hold "Override" until you hear a beep and the text changes from white to black 8. Press "Back" 9. Press the "Destination" button to enter desired destination. As mentioned earlier in the discussion, the override will remain in effect until you turn the car off. Good luck. Let me know if this works for you. Antonio. It worked for me too. Thank you so very much for passing it on. This will not work with the 2007 Denso 6.1 Nav Software. Sorry
  21. What verson is your software 5.1 or 6.1?
  22. I now have about 4500 miles on my new 2007 IS250AWD and have started to experience a strange problem with the automatic transmission. When the car is cold in the morning and I start to drive off the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd and then stays in 2nd and will not shift to 3rd. The only way I can get it to shift is move the shift lever over to the sport mode and manually shift to 3rd gear. This happened today even when the car was warm and started not to shift down. Any suggestions or ideas ... I have scheduled a 5000 mile oil change and will have the dealer look at this.
  23. I love the look and feel of the Lexus rubber matts. They will last longer than the car.
  24. It is what it is. I am sorry to tell you this as I came from the Acura family and the VR is excellent. Lexus is OK if you are stopped and in a quiet area. There is no learning function. Sorry
