  1. I also have a hairline crack just like yours starting from the left side of the instrument panel to the right side of the instrument panel. I'm beginning to wonder whether this defect is common on GX470s. I bought a platinum Extended warranty plan thru Lexus when I bought my 2003 GX but they refuse to repair it. Their explanation was that it "does not effect the safetiness to operate the vehicle". When the dealer sold us the warranty, they told us that the platinum plan would cover bumper to bumper. I am very disappointed because I felt cheated. I believe Lexus should come forward and acknowledge this defect and take care of the rapair. How much did you pay for the Platinum Extended Warranty? Is this a warranty that makes the car a CPO? My GX470 was purchased as a CPO, and Lexus Extra Care paid for the majority of the cost to replace the dashboard. I was surprised the total came out to almost 2000.00 just for the dashboard replacement! I ended up paying 489.00 for the labor. Also, they gave me an RX as a loaner vehicle for 5 days. It was nice! It took 5 days because I complained about my driver's side speaker making a crackling sound. They replaced a Mark Levinson L front speaker, lubricate the sunroof, changed the oil and fill up all fluids to the right level. They also took care of the "clunk" issue. The total for everything was almost $6000.00 and I only paid $489.00. I guess a CPO is sometimes better than a brand new vehicle. Rj
  2. Mann777, Sorry to hear that you had the same problem. You ended up replacing the entire dashboard or the entire dashboard cover? The part cost you $490.00? I guess $480.00 sounds fair for Lexus to replace the dashboard (or is it just the dashboard cover) in my GX470. Thanks for sharing your experience. Rj
  3. I have a 2003 GX470 and it has long cracks in the front dashboard. The cracks are in the front edge of the instrument panel and on the driver's side air vent. The crack runs from the driver's side air vent, and all around the front of the instrument panel. The car is a CPO and I got it last Aug 08. I didn't notice the crack until October 08. The car has been kept inside a garage at all times. No armor all has been used to clean the dashboard, just a cloth to remove dust. I took it to a Lexus dealership and they are charging me for the labor which is 482.00. They are paying 1100.00 which is the cost of the parts. They are replacing the entire dashboard cover. The dashboard is not covered under the CPO warranty, but they are paying 1100.00 for the parts because I argued that I only had the car for 2 months when I noticed the crack. Is this a fair price to replace the entire dashboard cover? I think they should pay for the entire cost, but the warranty shows in writing that dashboard cosmetic damage is not covered under CPO. Has anyone here ever had dashboard crack issues with their GX470? Tell us about it. Rj
  4. You don't have to be the original owner to get this fixed under the powertrain warranty (72 mos or 70K miles - whichever comes first). Just call your local Lexus dealer and tell them you have the "clunk" problem in your GX. Tell them there is a TSB for it. They will fix it at no charge. I am speaking from personal experience with my GX. The Lexus dealer in my area fixed the "clunk" in my GX and even gave me a loaner RX350 for a day.
  5. I read somewhere that this is covered under the powertrain warranty, which I believe is 7 years or 70k miles (whichever comes first). Is this accurate information as far as the "clunk" getting repaired at no charge (warranty)?
  6. Has anyone here ever used an automatic car wash and damaged the rear spoiler of their GX 470? I just got a CPO GX 470 and I am thinking of using an automatic car wash to clean it. I need input from GX 470 owners who uses an automatic car wash. Help!
  7. I am wondering if the Navigation system is covered under the CPO if it stops working properly (including software update). I want to hear from a Lexus owner first before I call the Lexus dealer to find out if the NAV is covered under CPO. Anyone here knows?
  8. You can try the repair, No guarantees on the sound though. I can get you a OEM replacement if needed. If I get an OEM part, how can I remove the old one? Do I need to remove the side panel to get to the subwoofer? Every speaker/sub cover on lexus have to be taken off from behind, So yes you have to remove the panel to get to the sub. I just called my local Lexus dealer and the Salesperson advised me that repair or replacement of a crackling subwoofer is covered under the CPO. That is great news for me. I just bought my CPO GX470 less than a month ago. Now I am wondering if the DVD Navigation is covered under the CPO if something goes wrong with it. Does anyone here know?

  10. Guys, Has anyone here ever tried to repair (crackling sound) the subwoofer on their GX470? Can the cover grill be removed and the cone repaired with a glue gun? I read this somewhere on the LS forum, but I want to know if this works on the ML subwoofer on a GX470. Rj
  11. Hey Gunslinger, I tried to remove the subwoofer grill with a screwdriver on my GX470, but it won't budge. All it did was scratch the grill and the surrounding surface. I even tried small flat plastic putty knife, but to no avail. Does your remedy work on a GX470 w/ Mark L. subwoofers? Has anyone here done this successfully on their GX470? Rj
  12. Tai, Just open the glove compartment and bend (it is flexible plastic) the 2 sides inward while pulling down. This will pull the compartment down, and if you look straight inside you will see the white air filter. Just pull it straight out and replace or vacuum it. This instruction is also in the Vehicle Manual. Rj
  13. Thanks Brick. I will try this and let you know the results. Have you downloaded this before? Why do you need a dual layer DVD if the file size is less than 4gig? If I am not mistaken, a blank DVD has at least 4.7GB? Rj the file is a compressed image file, so after you uncompress it into the actual DVD image, it'll be 8+ GB and will only fit a DL DVD. Also, Verbatim discs have been noted to be the best to use with the Nav unit. Thanks for the advise. Will the Navigation System on the 2003 GX470 read a DL DVD without any issues?

  15. Where can I download the full update for the Navigation database of a 2003 GX470? Someone from the Lexus dealership mentioned that it is available for download over the internet for free. He just didn't have the URL info. Does anyone here know?
  16. I traded my 2000 LX470 that has 86K miles. The KBB trade-in value for this is $15,500 (excellent condition). My trade-in has a paint defect. You must have heard of this issue with the 2000 LX470 (brown color). The paint was badly faded and the ride was really rough and hard when driving on bumpy roads (expensive to fix). The dealership took my trade for $15,500. Is this a fair price? RJ
  17. Guys, I just purchased a CPO 2003 GX470 for $22,500. I want to hear from the Gurus here if I got a good deal. It has the following items: -62,000 miles -Warranty is 3 years or 100K miles -DVD and Navigation -3rd Row seats. -Roof Rack -CD changer and Mark L speakers. Everything works great. The only negative thing that I can think of is the headlamps - it has a little bit of yellowing on it, but it is clear. How can I remove it? Thanks, RJ
  18. Has anyone here completely removed the roof rack from their LX470? I was able to remove the entire roof rack assembly but now I need to cover the holes from where the bolts where at before. Are there any parts available to fill the holes? I also noticed that you can put a cap on the black long plastic strip that runs on the side of the roof. Does anyone know where I can get that part? The Lexus dealer in my city does not carry it. Thanks, RV
  19. How can I remove the 2 crossbars from the roof rack of my 2000 LX470?
  20. I knew it was a smart decision to join this club. Otherwise, I will not see the wonderful feedback coming from people who love their cars like I do. Thanks Lex. Rj
  21. Guys, I read somewhere that when you strip off the black paint on the front grille you will end up with a chrome grille. Is this true? I do not want to experiment until I can verify this info for my 2000 LX470. Need your expertise here people. :whistles: RJ
  22. What a coincidence! I have a 2000 and it just turned 69K miles when the engine light came on. It turned out it was the oxygen sensor. I had it replaced by a Lexus dealer and it cost me $318.00 including taxes. This also includes the $99.00 for diagnosing the problem.
  23. What do you mean 7 gradation difference? Where can I see this? Are there measurement lines on the reservoir besides the min and max lines?
  24. -I called Lexus Customer Service regarding the paint fading and they advised me to take the vehicle to the delaership for inspection. -Before I took the car to the dealership, I took it to 2 auto body shop and 1 car detailer. They all said the same thing, the paint is defective. The clear coat is nice and glossy all over the car, but the base coat is losing color from the top of the four doors, back end of the hood, tail gate, and back of roof. The detailer tried to buff and polish but to no avail. -The Lexus service manager took pictures and documented the fading. He verbally told me that the paint is defective, but the warranty is out. The car is a 2000 lx470 with 68K miles. -The service mgr sent it to the regional director and they reviewed the inspection docs. They advised Lexus is not covering any or part of the cost to repair the paint defect. -I can see their point being the warranty is out. But this is a Lexus, they need to protect their reputation by correcting any defect on their vehicles, or people will start to doubt their commitment to excellence.
