  1. I also have a 99 ES300 and had my tranny replaced about 2 years ago at 135,000 miles. I was going to do a rebuild but it was torn up pretty bad so I went with a reman from Certified (or as my buddy calls it "Sure-to-fry") :D . . . . .cost me $2300 and that included a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty. Good luck.
  2. Okay without going into detail on why I am stupid and just now realized that the CEL bulb is not working on my car, suffice it to say I need to pull the cluster and check for myself. I hope it wasn't removed by the previous owner but who knows. Anywho I have searched several times and find lots of posts about getting the cluster out on earlier cars (92-95), probably because of the dash needle issue they have. However I can't find any step-by-steps on pulling the center cluster on a 1999. Can anyone help me out? I really want to get that bulb fixed. Thanks.
  3. Thanks Toys!! I got the 97 manual, download worked fine. B) I have a 99 ES300, so I guessed the 97 manual would work for the most part, is this correct?
  4. My 99 ES300 is giving codes P0330 and P0171 and won't go into overdrive, so based on many searches on this site (what a great knowledgebase this place is!) I think I will start by cleaning the MAF and then replacing the knock sensors. However when I started searching for parts I keep getting a reference to 2 different knock sensors for the 99 ES300, one of them being called a "Matsush!ta" type. (Funny thing the site won't let me enter the name so I must use the ! for the i) I did a search here and came up empty. Here is a link to the 2 parts: 99 ES300 knock sensors Will either of these work or do I need to figure out the exact date my Lexus rolled out? :( Thanks.
  5. The bad news: I'm over at my best friend's house last night for dinner. Shortly after I arrive, he needs to leave to run his son over to a friends house. Well, they jump in their Tahoe and completely forget that my car (99 ES300) is in the driveway and proceed to back into it. :( And we weren't even drinking! The good news: it was a corner hit and besides a few small scuffs, only broke the front drivers side turn signal assembly. The headlight escaped injury. I am going to order a new assembly but after searching this site I see a lot of posts on how to change a bulb, but none on how to change the entire assembly. Anybody have a quick "how-to" lesson on replacing the front drivers side turn signal assembly? Thanks in advance.
  6. So you are using the factory amp right? Did you get the wiring harness adapter that plugs into the factory amp/speaker wiring? It would be specific to your Lexus model (92-96 I believe) and makes the HU wiring a breeze.
  7. Be careful, I believe the key they send you will need to be programmed and you MUST have a working master key for that. You probably will need to have the ECM reflashed which they will do for $125. Still a pretty good deal.
  8. Hello - I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a 99 ES300 with 139,000 on it and I get the exact same high idle at startup. It jumps to about 1600 rpm and slowly comes down to normal in just a few minutes. My combined gas mileage mostly city is usually 21-22 mpg in warm weather and 19-20 mpg in cold weather (below freezing). I believe this is normal gas mileage, or very close to it. So I'm not sure that your high idle at startup and the bad gas mileage are related, at least my experience doesn't support it. If you find an answer for the idle please post it here, I would love to know if it's a problem and what the fix is. Jason
  9. Would this tutorial and the torque settings be the same for a 1999 ES300? For that matter, does anyone have the torque settings for the front strut bolts? Thanks for sharing the photos, this is great info. Jason
  10. Hey all - I drive a 1999 ES300 with 138,000 miles on it. I have the famous front end rattle/clunk coming from the passenger side and on my last tire rotation was told that one of the rear struts was leaking. So I've decided it's time to spend some money on a suspension refresh. :cries: Here are the parts I've purchased online: Set of 4 new KYB GR2 struts - $243 Front strut mounts w/ bearings (OEM) - $120 Rear strut mounts - $103 Here's the rub: I've starting calling some local garages and nobody will install them! They all say they stopped installing customer purchased parts because of "problems" they have encountered in the past. I assume it must be that something goes wrong and the customer blames it on the installer and the installer points at the parts. I'll call some more shops next week, but has anybody else run into this problem? I really don't have the tools or know-how to tackle this one myself. One other question, is there any other parts I should replace while I'm doing this? From reading some posts, I will have the bump-stops lubed but other than that I think I should be okay. Thanks for any advice, love this forum!!
  11. Another nice all around tire for a good price is another Kumho product, the Kumho Solus KH16. I put a set of these on my 1999 ES300 and love the ride. They have been great in the rain and have even been decent in the snow. I agree with the others that you don't need to spend a bundle on the trendy names to get a good tire. Good luck.
