  1. Ok guys I was out of town this weekend so time for an update. Firstly the Lexus dealer messed up and sent my mechanic the wrong part to begin with.... the part i really needed was more like 290 dollars. Secondly, it wasn't a throttle position sensor as someone suggested but a Pedal Position Sensor.... 2 different animals entirely (and obviously priced so by lexus) I have not had the car long and I did get my local Lexus dealer to do a pre sale inspection so I might complain to them because it had an odd acting throttle (not normal even for drive by wire) to begin with and the local lexus dealer did not put one thing in their report about it ... even after a drive (I not being lexus bred didn't know any better). Don't get me wrong I love my car and I know parts won't be cheap or free. I just don't want to feel ripped off for something that basically amounts to a 5 to 10 dollar part in truth. Thanks to all for the parts website.... it's a learning curve for me. The upshot of this whole story is that I got a steal on this car to begin with and the previous owner may have given it away due to the pedal postion sensor and the starter which was bound to go out eventually anyway ( he must have guessed wrong)... his bad!!! So no complaints at this point I was just venting the other day. I love you guys and this site , I have gotten so much good info already. Thanks to all and Merry Christmas!!!
  2. Ok so I have been having a problem with my 98 Ls for a little while but finally the car became undriveable. Car starts and runs fine but cel comes on, vsc disables and car won't let you come off of idle even if you floor the throttle. Had the car towed to trusty mechanic. Diagnosis ... Pedal position sensor has gone bad.. ok let's change it. Sure. This little part is 532 dollars!!!! This is ridiculous! Lexus seems like they are trying to get over on us. This thing can't cost much more than 10 to maybe 30 dollars to make. I feel like lexus is penalizing me for driving a nicer car... I'm not rich or I'd be driving an 07. What gives!!! This is aggravating me to the point of almost wanting to get rid of the car (after the starter fiasco .. good going there lexus) Can anybody out there calm me down or give me a suggestion at all?
  3. Ok guys I'll check all of that. Btw a vacuum leak sounds reasonable because the small hose that is hooked onto the box that you have to move to get to the plugs had a crack in it. I'm not exactly sure what it is on this car ( i guess I'm more car stupid than I thought). The crack was right at the fitting and covered up by the strap. I didn't know the name of it but it seems that maybe when the guys did the starter they didn't take as much care as me to put it back so it wouldn't leak until I could get it replaced. Thanks for the advice. :D Any more ideas? Would a vacuum leak cause my car to act up THIS badly.... I mean it's not even driveable really.... Thanks for the tips..... time to get to work!!!! :chairshot: on the hose and maf!
  4. Ok so this is it! I just got in my 98 ls400 and the check engine light and the vsc off light came on. My car would not move off of idle when in gear.... so it will move just slooooooooowly.... Had my codes read at advance auto and this is what came back ... Code p1120 manufacturer control fuel air metering.... Is my fuel pump bad? I have been having intermittent problems with the car in the mornings especially sometimes losing some power then getting it back just as quickly. Some background.. I did just change the plugs and the air filter recently as well as the starter. I really need some advice, I haven't had this car too long and I am starting to get discouraged :cries: PLEASE!!! :cries: What's the frequency kenneths?
  5. Hi all! I am the proud new owner of a black 98 ls400 with 103k and I love this forum. This is my first post so forgive me if I am not the best at it. I have a couple of problems that I would love to get some assitance/ advice on. Ok so here's the deal My car has this little problem that usually happens only when the car isn't fully warmed up or the temp is low (aka the morning time). I get in the car and start her up, starts fine. Then after I pull out of my house and start to head up the first hill it seems to go great for a minute and then seemingly lose power for a moment.... if I take my foot off the gas and hit again the power picks right back up..... once I get going down the road it seems fine and this only seems to happen in low throttle situations. I don't know if maybe it could be a dirty fuel filter, shift solenoids... I am baffled.... thanks electronic throttle :chairshot: For a little background as to what I have done to the car since I have owned it 1. new air filter and spark plugs-- both changed myself -- my problem seemed to start or get to the point that I noticed it after this btw 2. new starter installed by local shop-- nice placement lexus :chairshot: 3. new tranny mount local shop 4. new battery-- me Just a side note... my tranny shifts great but does has that little bump when first put into gear.. suspect engine mounts.. however I will note that the tranny fluid is very light pink more of a browish pink.. no metal noticed though.. I did go ahead and buy a case of tranny fluid. guess a drain and fill is in order? OK your turn folks. please help a newbie out here!!!! I love this car and this little "issue" is scaring me to death since I have only owned it for a month. Thanks in advance, Matt
