  1. Well, for what it's worth: I have a '98 BMW 740iL with Nav system that did the same thing. Usually, if the unit can't read the CDROM (or DVD), it means that either the disk is scratched, or the head is dirty. So I went out and got one of those "head cleaning" CDROMS from BestBuy, and ran it a couple of times. No more problems! I'm sure the purists would disagree on this method (it might scratch the head--the cleaning CDROMs have these small bristles sticking out of them, which swipes past the head as it rotates, thereby cleaning them). But hey, it sure beat paying the dealer big $$$.
  2. FWIW, I've heard that dabbing on Peanut Butter works wonders to get stubborn gum off...never tried it tho.
  3. It's touch screen, Has DVD player behind the screen (Nav DVD is in the trunk), and I'll have SIRIUS radio pretty soon (interface is built into the screen, so there will be no additional pods to install). Voice commands are possible too. It's pretty awesome. The mount was custom made by the shop I used to install it (Z Auto Sound in San Jose). Now the bad news--Cost = $3800 , but that included new 10 disk changer in the trunk (OEM doesn't work with it). But, hey, I love gadgets...
  4. I just had Kenwood stereo/NAV installed on my '93 LS400. I believe this unit just came out recently (DDX7015), but it works great, and looks stock! :D I just thought I'd share B)
  5. Thanks Ipaquser--I think your post was the one that I couldn't find earlier. Another question--where are these slots located? Somewhere in the light housing, I assume--is it really obvious once you peer inside? Thank you.
  6. Has anyone resolved the 'UFO' issue mentioned above by ipaquser? I believe I saw a post about it a while back but can't seem to find it anymore.
  7. I have a 2000 LX 470 also. On mine, the ticking was due to cracked manifold. Replaced under warrenty--i suggest you do the same!
  8. I got the car from a used car dealer; they didn't have any service records, but the CARFAX came out clean anyways..it was a lease return from a local owner, and the truck was extremely clean and still under warranty so I felt pretty comfortable with the purchase. All Lexus dealerships share service history database, so all service visits to any Lexus dealership should be visible to your local dealer. My service advisor freely shared the service history with me. The steering colum motor is the motorized steering column adjustment. The lx470 is designed to retract the whole steering column automatically upon removal of the key to make exit and entry easier. Our truck made a horrible grinding sound every time the key was removed--it was driving my wife nuts! (I believe this feature can be turned off by the dealer).
  9. I bought a 2000 lx470 a few months back as well, with 40,700 miles on it. So it was (actually still is) still under warrenty. The following items were repairs under warrenty: 1. Exaust Manifold leaks--the car made a tick-tick-tick sound when cold, and this was traced back to leaky manifold. 2. Steering column motor "grinding" noise--entire !Removed!'y replaced. The service advisor informed me that these are very common issues with these autos, and when I reported these problems he immediately knew what was wrong! He also indicated that had I paid for these repairs out of pocket, it would have cost around $5000. I also found a new problem with the car--it stalls when the outside temperature is below mid 20 degrees F. We take this truck skiing, so it's a major issue for us, but I haven't taken it in yet. I'll report what I find.
  10. I'm about to do this mod. Any pics would be greatly appreciated!!!
  11. Hello: I'm a new member here, and a very happy new owner of a 2000 LX470 w/ 40K mi. I was shopping around for the replacement vehicle for our 1999 GMC Denali and test drove quite a few vehicles, but I thought no other vehicle came close to what the LX470 offered in terms of quality, comfort, reliability, and off-road capability! (I didn't mention "sport"...but then this would be our long distance cruiser). The car is absolutely silent on the road EXCEPT there seems to be high amount of rattles coming out of the center console. Our Denali's center console is much more sturdy than the one in LX470! I'm putting on felt pads where I think it's making the noise, but has anyone experienced this and any tips on what to do? TIA for your help!
