  1. Could be a loose connection on the battery terminals. Are you sure the battery is really "Dead" or is it just that the car doesn't start.
  2. If not already done, you'll need to do timing belt - this is due at 90K miles. Also, at around 100K miles, coolant needs to be changed and spark plugs too (listed at 120K in the manual). Lots of other non-schedule stuff comes up around this many miles as well.
  3. Why pay good money to have it programmed. Just use these simple instructions and buy your keys from lexus-parts.com: http://www.lexus-parts.com/import/pdf/1.pdf
  4. Hi lburn - which problem? hissing or vibration?
  5. Is it a humming sound like a motor is running after you press the brake pedal a few times? You can also feel a vibration in the brake pedal during this time. If so, this is the brake booster running to repressurize the system. My 07 GX makes this sound/vibration and it annoys me. I've gotten use to it, but I think it's worse on my GX than others. Went to two different dealers, and both claim it's normal. 4Runner has the same brake system, so they have this "feature" too.
  6. It should be noted that a spark plug socket plus 3" and 1" extensions is just tall enough to peak it's head out of the plug hole. This is the key. Once the spark plug socket plus 3" and 1" extension is peaking out of the hole, you can add a u-joint and another 3" extension to go sideways or any which way to snake the thing out of the area to attach your rachet. Practice this on the front plugs to see how to build these extensions to work your way out of the plug hole. I could be mistaken about the extact number or length of the extensions. Look at the front plug hole to see how tall this needs to be. Kind of like building leggos with extensions. Pretty neat.
  7. You definitely do not need to take the intake manifold off. I did it in a few hours and this was my first attempt at a DIY. You just need to take out the PVC valve. The key is to have lots of different size extensions (wobble and regular 1", 3", etc) and universal joint. Once you pop off the ignition coils (the most difficult part), getting the plugs out is a matter of dropping piece by piece your 1) spark plug socket 2) various extensions and u-joints to "build" your way out of the hole. Once you're out of the plug hole, use more extensions to wiggle your way out so you can attach your rachet. For the passenger side, I came out sideways with the rachet. For the middle and driver's side, I came out behind the intake manifold toward the firewall. Must have used about 4-5 different types of extensions, but it was real easy once the coil is out. The middle and driver's side coil have to have their electrical connectors removed, while the passenger side coil does not.
  8. I bought a CD of the factory service manual off ebay. This is very useful to have - tells you how to do every procedure. I buy oil filters online. Most Toyota online dealers will sell a V8 oil filter for around $3-4. While you are at it, might as well buy a cabin air filter, engine air filter, wiper inserts, and gaskets for the oil drain plug and other plugs (f/r differential drain/fill plugs transfer case drain/fill plugs). Most parts are interchangeable with the 4runner. No special tools other than regular mechanic tools you can get from Sears. I would do a search on all the 4runner boards and 4runner web sites. The 2UZ-FE engine is common across a lot of Toyota trucks, so there is a lot of info out there on how to DIY most things. Not a whole lot of info specific to GX DIYs because most GX owners are not going to do their own oil change. Here's a good write up on an oil change (there's another one on clublexus too): http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.p...ight=oil+change Good luck.
  9. TDA is usually part of invoice price. If you price it out on carsdirect.com, it includes TDA in the invoice price. I don't think Edmunds usually includes TDA. Bottom line is it doesn't matter what the exact invoice price is, just what you are willing to pay. Can another dealer give it to you for $576 less?
  10. Hi, My wife and I are about to buy a GX470. We have one child now, but plan to have another. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with 2 car seats in the 2nd row of the GX. Are you able to access the 3rd row when you have 2 cars seats in the 2nd row? You will obviously have to use the seat belts for the 2 car seats in order to do this becaues the latch connection on the driver's side of the car is offset toward the center. So if you use the center seat belt and the selat belt behind the driver, can you slide the 40 section of the 2nd row pass the two car seats? My wife wants to use the 3rd row for changing and feeding when we have two kids. Also, what car seats are small enough for this to work? Thanks so much!!
