  1. Hello,

Out of the (now) 18 cars I have owned, the Lexus SC 300 I just bought has to be the best deal. Its a 1995 SC 300 with 16500 original miles! Documented. The car looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. It had been owned by a little old !Removed! couple here in the bay area. They were too afraid to drive it incase it got damaged. They said they rarely even took it on the freeway. I paid $14K for it and certainly would have paid more if I had to. That is high retail, but It's well worth it.

I dont mean to gloat. I just wanted to share it with folks who might apriciate it.

    Take care,

    Dave

I know what you are going through. I bought a 96 SC400 and I am having a blast. Only 82K miles, it is pristine, except for the drivers seat, which is worn. It's nice to be able to give those other "fast" cars a run for their money.

  2. During the past month, my 2000 RX300 with 69,000 miles was having difficulty starting up particularly on warm afternoons. One afternoon, it would not start after repeated attempts, however after several hours of rest, I was able to start it although it would shut off if I let off the gas pedal. Once on the freeway, it ran nicely. The next day, I took the vehicle into my mechanic who discovered that the magnet for IACV was so heavily gummed up, he was not able to move it. The repair bill came to $135 to clean the IACV. My mechanic indicated that a Toyota dealership typically will replace the IACV instead of cleaning which is quite an expensive part but he stated that the IACV gums up about every 60,000 to 80,000 miles and there is no need to replace them – just clean it every 60,000 miles. After I picked my RX300 and drove it onto the freeway, I immediately noticed a big difference in the response, smoothness and power. I have read other threads in the Lexus Forum about IACV related problems and some attempt to fix the problem by putting in a fuel cleaner into a tankful of gas. The IACV does not receive fuel but takes in air and can only be cleaned by removing the IACV.

That's good to know. Where is it's location? Would my 2000 GS300 have this?

  3. B) I recently purchased a sandstone 96 SC400. I love this car. The only complaint I have is that my head touches the ceiling unless I lean the seat back somewhat. I am 5' 10" and shrinking ( LOL ). I also noticed the front of the driver's seat raises and lowers, but the back doesn't; whereas the passenger side does. I tried sitting in the passenger side, with the seat as low as possible, and still had no headroom. Is this a problem for anyone else out there, and does anyone have advice about restoring the seat rear up/down function?

    Thanks,

    BKD
