  1. I went and got a slip ring set and it worked. I got everything off and am putting it all back together now. The problem I am running into is the Hub (The part that has the pulley) I cant get that back on. I went and rented a tool, an AC clutch hub installer, but I have no idea how to use it. It seems like it should have come with some sort of screw that I screw into the compressor shaft or something. Anyone know of any spots where there are good instructions on how to use this tool, or any ideas.

  2. I have been following the guide to replace the A/C Clutch. I have the plate off but I cant get the pulley (Hub or whatever it is called) off. I see the slip ring but cant get that off. What tool would I use to get this off. Is there a better guide with better photos?

  3. I had Lexus look at my care today. They told me the same that my clutch was not engaging. They recommended that I first try and replace the clutch and if that doesn't fix it then replace the compressor. The problem is $500 for clutch replacement and $1400 for compressor. I called the local auto parts store and can get a clutch for $120 that is rebuilt. Is this pretty easy to replace. I have already replaced the fan bracket in this car so I have done some work under the hood. Also anyone have a tutorial for the clutch replacement

  4. I just recenlty bought a 1991 LS400 with 189,000 miles. I bought it knowing the the A/C didn't work. I had a local shop look at it and they said the clutch isn't engaging on it and it is an electrical problem. They cant fix that and told me to go to the dealership. I know that will cost an arm and a leg. Is there anything I can do myself?

  5. I just recenlty bought a 1991 LS400 with 189,000 miles. I bought it knowing the the A/C didn't work. I was going to recharge it. I checked it out and it hadn't been converted yet. So i went about converting it and when I did the pressure check there was no pressure so I assumed that there was no R-12 in it. So I began to inject the R-134 in it when I realized I didn't have a good seal and my pressure was good, but I had already injected a small amount of R-134 in to the system. So my quesiton is this. Is it bad if there is a small amount of R-134 mixed in with the R-12? Also no that I have done that my AC light flashes. I cant read any of the codes because my LCD is blacked out. Any ideas on what the problem for the no A/c would be as well

  8. Ok I just replaced my Clutch Fan Bracket. Everything went back together fine. The only problem is I snapped or broke the one of the threads were the bracket screws into. The bracket itself is still solid as it has 5 other bolts holding it in place. When I put this bolt back on I forgot to put the distributor cap back over the bracket before I screwed down this bolt and drove it in to far.

But the big problem I have now is that my car has no power. It runs a lot louder and rougher. I pulled the car out of the garage and it didn't sound right so I tried to pull it back in but it didn't even have enough power to make it up the small slant of my driveway. What could cause this?

  9. Ok another question for you all.

I just replaced the bracket and put everything back together. The problem is when the car is running it is a little rougher than usual. The biger problem is when I step on the gas the car doesn't go faster than like 2 miles per hour. It has no power, I couldn't even make it up the hill outside my house. What could I have done wrong?

  10. Good tip. Upon comparison I noticed that there are two bolts that screw in sideways, down by the A/C pulley. I tried to losen those but cant get them to budge. Would I need an impact wrench for this.

To do this I am following instructions on how to replace the timing belt. My belt is good and to early to replace. The questions I have is in the instructions it tells me to remove the crankshaft pulley. I dont want to do that unless I have to for the fan bracket. So to remove that will I need to remove the crankshaft pulley. It doesn't look like it overlaps with the bracket as much as I can tell.

The damn bracket cost me $270 after taxes. But if I can finish this myslef I will be saving almost $600 in labor.

Also is there any other maintenace I should do while I have my car half apart?
