    I guess I need to know which sensor this is for, there are 3 on the vehicle, but I cant seem to find which one is which. I don't wanna buy the wrong one. The mechanic told me 390 for the part and I found them anywhere from 80-200 depending on which sensor it is.

  2. i found this

    Bank 1 sensor 1 is between the radiator and engine when you open the hood. It looks like a spark plug screwed into the header coming out of the engine, going down, and feeding into the exhaust.

    Bank 2 sensor 1 is between the firewall and the engine (back side of engine). It also looks like a spark plug screwed into the header coming out of the engine, going down, and feeding into the exhaust. Hard to see unless you get under the car.

    The 3rd sensor is on the top side of the exhaust pipe just after the catalytic converter. The connectection for this one is underneath the carpet under the driver seat.

    First and last are easy to replace. Trace wire to connector, disconnect, and unscrew. Remember to use anti-seize compound on the threads of the new sensor. The bank 2 sensor 1 works the same way but I haven't been able to reach the connector to get it disconnected. Its very hard to reach.

    Seems quite easy, I'll pick up the part and have a buddy of mine help me out who is mechanically inclined. Im guessing b1s1 is pre cat front?

  3. I finally got my knock sensor replaced, after it failed and caused my transmission to be thrashed. (Apparently, on newer cars, there are 2 knock sensors and one helps control the shifting in the transmission).

    These are the codes I have left to figure out.

    P0171 - System to lean Bank 1

    P0125 - Insufficient temp for closed loop

    P1133 - o2s B1S1 Circuit response fault

    Is this something thats relatively easy to replace myself, or should I bring it to a mechanic? I just got done spending close to 3 grand so I'm a little reluctant to spend a fortune at a mechanic again if its something easy I can do.

    The car in question is a 1999 ES300.

    Now, we replaced the knock sensor, and rebuilt the transmission, but the car is still having problems shifting into 4th gear. My problem is identicle to the one described in that link. My mechanic said the sensor was attached to the engine block, under a manifold.

  5. I have replaced the low beams with fair easy, but for the life of me can't figure out how to get to the area to replace a blown turn signal (front) on this car. I tried googling around, but unfortunately, didn't turn up anything helpful.

  6. I had a problem for a while where the car wouldnt properly shift into 4th gear, or it would stay in 4th gear when I came to a stop. So i took it to have it looked at and 4th gear was shot in my transmission, they rebuilt the transmission and replaced the KNOCK sensor as it was showing as bad on the scanner. After getting my car back, it started doing the same thing again. are knock and NOX the same thing or are they two different sensors. I know a knock sensor doesnt have anything to do with shifting gears so thats why im really confused. I read in another forum someone had the EXACT same problem abnd they replaced the NOX sensor and it fixed the problem.

    Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I'm trying to avoid paying alot more money than needed to get this fixed, been without a car for over a week now. :(

  7. A few times recently when I would go to turn the car on, it wouldnt crank over.. it wouldnt even try. After i attempted 3-6 times it would turn over and everything would be fine for a few days..

    Well, today I went to turn my car on, and it did the thing mentioned above. So i tried again and this time it was a half turn over, and after a stutter for a second or two, it finally completely turned up and was running.

    Well, i arrive at my destination, and i goto shut the car off, turn key back and remove key, however it sounds like the car is trying to start. The starter is continually trying to start the car. So i put the key back in and turn over (not to the point of starting the car, but in the on position past accessory, and the car started. I attempted to shut the car off again, and it did the same thing. Trying desperatly to shut the car off, i do this a couple times, and notice a really wierd smell. and notice smoke. After a minute, the battery im guessing is almost dead as its getting slower and less loud on the turnover. At this point there is alot of white smoke coming from my hood, and i open it, and see the exact spot in which is causing the smoke, but dont know what part it is. It appears to be attached to th engine block on the same side as the battery, and is kinda cylindrical in shape. I couldnt tell (didnt study to much) which wires were connected to it. Someone mentioned that usually one of the + leads from the battery usually connects to the started, this i didnt know until after i wasnt by my car anymore.

    Im thinking this is the celenoid and starter, but could be wrong, any input?

  8. I've heard from a few people that it is relatively easy to plug in an audio input wire into the back of a GS's stereo system as they come with free input jacks. I recently just purchased an iPod fm transmitter and was very disapointed with its performance and heard about this extra input jack in most Lexus stereos. So, I wanted to get the cable and peal away the carpet and plug in an input wire for my iPod. Is this true? If so have any of you done this?

  9. I was wondering if there was some type of adapter to split the input between the 6disc in car changer, and another say 1/8 inch audio input adapter. I would like to keep use of my cd changer, but would also like to have the ability to hook up XM/Sirius without using the horrid FM Tuner that they like to use so much. Im a big audiophile, sop quality is important to me. I know 1/8inch isnt the best, but it sure beats the FM method. I would also love the ability to connect my iPod as burning 3-6 cd's a week can be expensive and a waste of resources.
