  1. Still have the car? Mywhite 93 was rear-ended Saturday and I may be attempting a rebuild with the insurance money. Would need tail light assemblies, rear bumper cover, rear bumper, trunk lid.
  2. I must have read something incorrectly. Are you saying that the car has a 15-year old battery in it? :o I highly doubt that is the case. In fact, I'd be shocked if this isn't at least the 3rd battery in the car.
  3. I have a similar issue with my moonroof. I frequently tilt it up to ventilate the car while it is parked. Upon returning and "un-tilting" I usually find that it has not sealed completely against the front of the track and I hear wind noise. Once I retract it horizontally and close it again, all is well. Don't know it is an adjustment issue, worn weatherstrip/seal or what. Sticking tach/speedo needles and faulty fuel guage are common problems. read the pushpinned "Instrument Cluster" thread for more info.
  4. How much did bumper painting set you back? Did you have both the white and silver portions painted? TIA
  5. I am experiencing a momentary drop in RPM when at idle. The idle RPM will suddenly drop toward zero for a split second and then return immediately to normal idle speed. I can feel a sudden interruption in the normally smooth running of the engine (and a commensurate drop of the tach needle), followed by an immediate return to a normal idle in less than a second (tach needle never makes it to zero). Sometimes it will occur only once, sometimes it will happen several times, with each incidence of a single, split-second idle interruption separated by a few seconds (5-15 secs between). It mostly happens after a cold start but occasionally occurs with a warm engine when at a traffic light or stopped in traffic. It does not always occur, however. Some days I don't experience the phenomenon at all. There do not seem to be any issues when driving with the engine under a load. It almost feels like an instantaneous, momentary loss of electrical continuity, for just an instant. Also, when it happened once at night, the headlights dimmed dramatically at the moment the idle dropped. Any ideas?
  6. If I understand you correctly, the current belt has only 63,000 miles on it. The recommended interval is 90,000 and many have gone well beyond that without incident. Of course, the age of the belt could also be a concern, depending on when it was last replaced. My 93 has 211,000 miles and the belt was last replaced at 90,000 in 2000. Since the car is 14 years old with a market value of ~ $4000, I plan to drive it until the belt breaks, then replace it. That is the beauty of a non-interference engine. I am rarely more than 100 miles from home and have AAA+, so I get a free tow for 100 miles or less.
  7. No, they are the exact replacement that Lexus would sell you. They fit and work perfectly, and need no alteration. Agreed. Mine worked perfectly. Interestingly enough, I found that merely replacing one of the two old struts held the hoop open with no difficulty. Of course, I already owned two new ones before I made that discovery.
  8. I have a 1993 LS. I currently drive about 200 miles a day, 85% of which is on the interstate at ~ 75 mph. I average 23.5 - 24.0 mpg.
  9. OK, thanks. If it is under the CD changer bracket, I think I can get a look at the area tonight and make sure there are no water or loose connection problems. Let me know what you come up with. :whistles:
  10. Thanks for the response. Where is the main 4-channel amp located on my 93 LS (non-Nakamichi)? I assume by your comment that it is not integral to the head unit. I figure I had better check for water or loose connections before buying a replacement. What would working replacement amp cost? TIA
  11. Everything worked fine one day and the next day the sub was the only channel with sound. I have pretty much ruled out a short due to water because we have been in a drought with no rain (or car washes) for weeks. I assume this is either a problem with the amp for the 4 main channels or an output problem within the preamp section of the head unit. Is the sub a separate amp? Where is the main 4-ch amp? Head unit or elsewhere? Any troubleshooting tips? Thanks
