  1. Thanks flanker271, I appreciate the input. Yesterday when I was driving to work i said let me try the radio to see if the volume works (after not working at all since Sunday) and, to my amazement, it worked!! :) So instead of hitting the grindstone when I got to work :P I did some research on what exactly my electrical problem was. From what I've read/found, it seems that Nakamichi amps and speakers aren't really that great, and that quite a few people have had similar problems to mine. However, after checking out carstereohelp.com I found that another common problem is water and corrision affecting an orange connector underneath the back driverside seat. This is what I think my problem is because when it I was driving on Sunday it was raining harder than I've seen in quite some time and thats exactly when my volume stopped working (about 10-15 minutes into my drive). So I think that a little bit of water seeped down underneath the back seat and caused the volume to stop working, until it dried out a few days later. I hope this was the problem and won't happen too often because it seems like a major pain if it is anything else.
  2. Real quick.....does the LS have two separate amps? A main amp and a power amp? <_< Or did i just misinterpret what i read online....thanks!!
  3. How would I check if the amp is bad?? I want to be sure that that is the correct diagnosis. Does anyone know if you can swap an amp from a 90 LS to a 93 LS?
  4. The other day i was driving with the radio on and then all of a sudden the sound stopped working. The radio and LCD screen still work, the radio channels still change when you push the buttons but it just seems that the sound wasn't working. I've read in another thread that it might be the volume chip or amp. Does anyone know where to find and check if the volume chip is still good? ANY help would be appreciated!!! I hate riding in silence! :cries:
  5. Good thing I asked before I went ahead and swapped my alternator between my two cars! Thanks for the advice Gumart1. I'm getting my power steering leakage problem taken care of this week. Yes, that would be pretty foolish to change the alternator before fixing the problem that is making the alternator go bad in the first place. Checking online for prices seems like a good idea, I'll check it out. Thanks!
  6. I seem to be having the same problem that Gumart1 is having.....my power steering fluid is leaking into my alternator. My mechanic told me that a new alternator is around $550 plus $120 labor (this is for my 93 LS). However, I also have a 90 LS that is just sitting in my driveway. Can i swap the alternators and save myself some $$$$? Is the voltage the same??? I don't want to swap them and then find out that I screwed something electrical up.
  7. nobody knows how to fix this problem I have the same problem with my 93 LS. The radio and the LCD for the radio are fine, and I assume that my climate control LCD would work if it weren't blacked out (need to talk to Mikado)....I did read in one thread last night that the instrument cluster panel malfunction is related to the radio/climate illumination lights not working (don't remember which discussion i read it in). Is your cluster bad too? Mine is. Hopefully someone will reply with some know-how.
  8. Mineral spirits or alcohol will not damage the paint or finish of the car. Moreover, the use of those products is not solely to remove the glue but also other impurities on the finish of the car, such as wax, polish, tar, etc. Tape remover alone most likely will not accomplish this. The reason I say to use the aforementioned is to ensure a strong bond for the new emblems. Keep in mind I'm not saying wipe your entire trunk lid down with alcohol or mineral spirits, just the small area of where you are going to apply your emblem. Once you apply the new emblems you can always go back and polish around them to get some finish back on your paint if it appears somewhat dull. I've never heard of anyone at the detailing and body shops i've worked at ever using tape remover in anyway for this process, so I don't have any input on that....
  9. Mineral spirits, not acetone....sorry 'bout that :chairshot:
  10. The emblems on the back aren't attached by screws, its adhesive tape. To remove them, try using a hair dryer and a plastic putty knife or, if you have good hands, a flathead screwdriver with tape on the end. After you get them off, just wipe the area down with alcohol or acetone to prep for the new emblems. As for your other questions, sorry but I can't help you out witht them.
  11. Just bought another LS400 yesterday, went from a 90 to a 93. Finding out a few small problems (hopefully) that the dealer neglected to tell me about....... When I swithch my headlights on my radio and climate control lights don't light up at all. The only ones that do are the direction that my air/heat is blowing and what speed its blowing at (high, med, low), otherwise the illuminating lights don't function anywhere, even the dash (I'm aware of the cluster problems that haunt the earlier model LS'). However, if i switch my headlights from off, to parking lights, to headlights really fast back and forth I can see all of the radio illuminating lights for a split second. Whats the deal with that? I know they work because when my headlights aren't on the radio portion is fine. Anyone have any insight? Also when I go to accelerate from a stopped position, sometimes my 93 will take off like my 90 no problem and then other times I feel like i'm towing a trailer with no wheels its so slow!!! Once it gets to around 3500 RPM's it will take off no problem, but up to that point its hit or miss whether my car will accelerate quickly or not. Almost got slammed pulling onto a highway this morning when my car didn't have the power I have come to expect. Catalyst? Lambda Sensors?
