  1. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to do that myself, therefore I'm still putting more money into a car that isn't worth it, in my opinion. Anyone looking for a 93 lexus ES300? Will sell for cheap.
  2. OK, I have spent a few days researching my problem and almost everything points to a head gasket or crack. I lost a good portion of antifreeze after my car was parked. I refilled the radiator and reservoir and the fan stopped working overtime while driving, but soon after I noticed when I parked it, the reservoir was bubbling and overflowing. I also smell a scent that is similar to vanilla yogurt (I know, weird description, but most fitting). I do not see white smoke coming out of the exhaust though, so I am curious if my problem is truly a head gasket that is worth replacing. From the research, I am convinced that the head gasket is bad, but to what extreme? The car is not noticeably running bad. Do I still have time to save the car? I am curious if the white smoke is always evident in a head gasket problem and if that is an indication of something much more severe. The car has 140k on it and is probably only worth $3k tops, so I would think of using it only to drive to the dealership and get a new one instead of trying to put $1000+ into it only to find there will be even more problems diagnosed after taking it apart. Thoughts?
  3. I have two windows that are now broke and one is the drivers side. I looked inside and the cables for both are messed up, kinked and tangled. I know my motor works, so I am thinking that I just need the regulator, but I know the cables will have to be replaced. Which part includes the cables? Can the Toyota Camry parts be substituted? I have a 93 ES300. I am aslo confused why the window regulator is so difficult to find for this model, that is why I ask if they are interchangeable. When I do find them from a part dealer, the regulator is over $450. How do I fix this without paying $800 to have both fixed professionally? If someone could just anwer one of these questions, I would be very happy.
  4. Thanks Kenny. I had my struts replaced there last summer. Seemed like a great outfit. It's nice to hear somebody else has said something good about them (haven't heard anything bad either though). Builds up the trust factor a bit more. I work only 5 minutes away from there, so it is very convenient.
  5. I already adjusted that slightly and there was little if any change, especially in the higher gears. In that previous kick down cable discussion, it was based mostly on low gears. Should this concept work for the higher gears as well? If so, would you suggest a more extreme adjustment? Keep in mind, I still have all my gears as I know it. My car will still do well over 100mph.
  6. I am having an issue with my 93 es300 transmission (120k miles). I have read hours of other posts within this site and others and it sounds like there is no need for a new transmission. (Although the dealer that test drove it said otherwise and put a price tag of $6000 for a new one, from them, all with only about 100k mi. on the tranny. That was the last time I visited that place. ) Anyway, almost 3 years later, I am still seeing the problem come up on occasions. I think there is some slippage occuring between drive and overdrive. This happens when going about 75-85 mph and punching the gas to get some acceleration. It shifts to a lower gear, then back, then lower, then back, like it is trying to stayin the lower gear, but won't. It is really annoying when traveling in the mountains. I plan on doing the tranny flush using methods of NOT removing the pan. (Unfortunately, I don't have the available space.) If I did proceed to remove the pan and clean the screen, is there a good chance this could be the culpret? Being I don't have a trusted mechanic yet (Denver area), I am weary of pursuing more professional servicing and diagnosis until I have exhausted all of my resources first. Anyone else have or had this problem? Any ideas? :cries:
