  1. I had the exactt same problem with the antenna on my 93 LS400. Broken toothed nylon cable with most of it coiled up inside the plastic body of the antenna gearbox. Disassembled it, removed the old cable, followed the instructions for installing the new mast which is hold in the AM and CD buttons at the same time and then turn the key to the acc position. Did this and the radio displayed Ant on the radio as it should. This is also the procedure to remove the antenna mast, if you do this the antenna should spit out your antenna mast. When I tried to feed in the new mast, the motor was driving in the wrong direction as you described. After checking out everything and not finding anything wrong according to the service manual, I simply pulled the pins leading to the motor and reversed the two wires and it is working properly. Just seemed the easiest way to fix the problem. Hope this helps, I am late with this reply but I just joined this forum. This is definitely a great forum, lots of good info being passed around in here. Curt
  2. If your odometer and cruise control are working then the speed sensor on the tranny should be ok. The speed signal that goes to the cruise control is routed through the instrument cluster so a good cruise control operation should mean that the speed signal is getting to the instrument cluster. I had this problem with my 93 LS 400, it would work randomly whenever it felt like it. I think your problem is definitely in the instrument cluster. On my car, the tachometer was also intermittent in operation. I pulled my instrument cluster and just cleaned up all the connectors on the flex-plate and generally tightened and cleaned up everything. This fixed everything, both tach and speedo worked for about a week and then started acting the same. I pulled the instrument cluster again and got out the soldering iron to resolder connections on the circuit boards , especially on the ground plane pcb traces. I made sure that I had good ground, power, and signal connections all the way through the circuit boards to the tach and speedo needles and so far, everything is working good at the time. If it continues to work for at least a month, I will consider it a good fix. Curt
  3. I just replaced the expansion valve in my 93 Ls400 and it took me about 1 1/2 hours of work to have the entire behind dash unit containing the evaporator/expansion valve out. I definitely would not think about tackling this job unless you have the Lexus service manuals available, they show you all the fasteners, etc that you have to remove. It is definitely within the capabilities of a DIY'er but how to get it out is all that intuitive. Getting the glove box out is the easy part and just the beginning of the job. Curt
  4. A little late with this reply but I can vouch that Pace Compressors is a good place to work with. I just replaced the compressor in my 93 LS with a Pace compressor. One thing that anyone replacing a compressor should consider is installing a filter in the suction line and Pace has a serviceable filter that they designed, the filter element is replaceable for $2. and will be insurance against the replacement compressor failing. It is not unusual for a failing compressor to fill your condenser and lines with metallic debris. I put the filter in the suction line and the filter definitely picked up metallic particles that I couldn't flush out. Definitely good folks to work with, highly recommended. Curt
  5. Put me on the list to purchase if cost is reasonable, I have a 93 and would need your adapter also I suppose. Curt
  6. I purchased the 2 service manuals from www.lexus-parts.com. for $144. Good people to order from in Stewart, Texas I believe. I also purchased some parts for my 93 LS400 and after shopping around I found that Lexus of St. Louis, Mo sold me the parts at a fairly good discount. Both places were great to order from. Curt
