  1. Hi, I have a 1998 Lexus ES300 model with 135000, I want to change my PCV valve, but the one I got from the dealer is plastic one.I hardly able to find the location of this PCV valve as I am looking all the time for plastic one. Later I took it to the dealer and he said it has the metalic screw in one type. Even this is metalic do I need to replace it? I am getting poor milage and behaves some times pulling the car to little front at lower speeds like rough idling loss in power. but not all the times I see this.I recently did fuel injection cleaning, intake manifold,IACV and EGR valve with some mechanic for $100. Even after I didn't see this symptom goes away. Do I suspect job done by mechanic? If I change the PCV, do I see any improvement ? Thanks in advance for your valuable advice folks. lexlover.

  4. I will check this weekend, I didn't get it whats the IVAC,TB? Why the gas milage not improved after I did these many changes on my car? 1.Was this Good Milage what I am getting currenlty(21-22 MPG)? 2.I used to travel with my family 95% of my travel on this car,Does this drop any milage? 3.After I updated I didn't get a chance for having fair driving conditions and Weather too, was this causing any problem in getting more Milage? 4. After I change PCV valve does it improve the Gasmilage? 5. Wasn't any of the above brnaded oils won't improve the gas Milage? Thanks, lexilove. You can't really compare summer and winter gas mileage, in my experience - winter driving is always harder on fuel. My fuel mileage ('93 ES300) always decreases in the winter. I've read that it's because the gasoline sold here in Canada in winter months has a different formulation for winter conditions - easier cold starts, etc. - that results in lower mileage. Don't know if it's true, I haven't done any research on this or anything. But my gas mileage always increases (a little) when the warmer Spring weather returns. Maybe yours will too. Synthetic engine and trans oil, new plugs, new PCV, etc.... all good for your engine's long-term health. You will be able to keep it longer with few expensive repairs if you keep up the preventive maintenance. The only other thing I would do is clean the intake and your idle control valve. Lots of posts here on how to do this. Then you're good to go - just drive it and enjoy! See if your fuel mileage improves in the Spring when warm weather returns. tck... Thanks TCK, I will do it post the results soon.
  5. I didn't do those things, let do in next couple of weeks and let you know the results. Thanks for the suggession. Thanks, lexlover

  7. Hi All Memebers, Can you please help me out to clear my doubts. I have Lexus ES300 1998 with 133000 Miles on it.I changed the Timing belt water pump and 90K service on August 2004.After ealry days of serive I used to get the better milage i.e.around 24 to 28.Now I am geting the milage 21 to 23 MPG now with different driving conidtions like travel with my family i.e. me,wife and my 4 yrs old son from the past one year.I drive 50/50 - HWY/Local.I always use BP with 89 OCtane number.I live in chicago. These are my doubts to clear from our Club members. 1. Was it a Good milage ? I am sure it is not bad milage. 2. Changed the K&N Air Filter on 12/20/2006 at 131568 (Waether conditions by that time 55 to 60), I drove my car with full tank for one week and there is nothing much I could able to find out the milage difference.Looks lil bit smoother sound from Engine. Does the change in Air filter improves the Gas milage? 3. Changed Transmission Oil(3 Qrt ATF)and Engine Oil (5 Qrt ASL 5w-30) with Amsoil on 01/27/2007 (Waether conditions by that time 25 to 33). I converted the Conventional to Synthetic First time i.e. at 132188.I used the Engine flush per the Amsoil Instructions manual. I noticed the significant difference in my Engine running condition and gear shifting. This is really really awsome and very smooth in ride. This time I expected more Gas milage. But there is nothing much difference I made it.I abt to change the spark plugs too, but the Mechanic said existing spark plugs still go further 20 K more as it was Platinum multi grounded spark plugs. My Question here is, Was the oil change and Transmission change won't improve any gas milage? As per the Amsoil Manufacturer they siad it improve the Gas milage after I shift from conventional to Synthetic. I didn't notice any leaks so far so now Which I am happy abt it. 4. Changed the Spark plugs, after I read all the reviews abt the Denso Iridium spark plugs, changed the Coolant with toyota pink as I confirmed there is no harm in mixing with old coolant type, changed the antifreezer coolant hose(top one) as it was soften and bulgy.Mechanic Could able to fill with 1.3 Gallaon of Toyota pink coolant so the engine remains with the old coolant which is not pink one.(Waether conditions by that time -6 to -14).I found this time Engine running with absolete silence. I expected this time also get more gas milage, huh there is nothing improved. Why the spark plugs made any difference in showing gas milage improvement? Was the bad wether conditions causing the bad milage even after I updated these many things on my car? 5. The last thing I am going to change the PCV valve next week and will see how this affects on Milage? FYI: I just did all the above these things as my regular maintence after 90K servic not for the Milage. But as well I expected the better milage too.I also want to wait couple of more weeks or months for sunny days to see Improvement in Gas milage as I was almost did these things in pretty bad weather and severe driving conditions. All the above cost me around like 384.00 includes parts and labor K&N AIR FILTER AT 131568 $ 34.51 TRANSMISSION + ENGINE OIL+ ENGINE FLUSH AT 132188 72.73 SPARK PLUGS(IRIDIUM IK20) AT 132650 56.46 COOLANT HOSE AT 132650 28.42 COOLANT FLSH(TOYOT PINK) AT 132650 33.42 BRK & STERING(TOYT GENU) AT 132650 6.11 PCV VALVE REPLACEMENT NOT DONE AT 6.94 =================== 243.59 + 140.00 =================== GRAND TOTAL(parts + labor) 383.59 =================== Please give me your thoughts and openions on this. Thanks for your time and patience with me. Thanks, LexiLover
