  1. Kind of a strange request... so many factors to consider beyond simply looking for a silver bullet to over ride the speed limiter... tires, shocks, brakes, ride height, drag, and, oh yeah, the nut behind the wheel... things happen quick when it goes to sh#$# at a 100 mph... can imagine an average driver keeping up with all the bad things that could happen at 170... fact is, unless you tweaked your over the counter IS 350 with all of the things that make cars behave nicely when you venture on beyound the buck 50 mark I doubt that you would want to drive one that fast... and, now that I think of it, I can't think of any racing venues in this country where your stock IS 350 would see 170 short of Daytona or Talladega and then you would have to factor in that same old question, will the car be up for the run. You would be better to invest your time an money in tweaking this fine car's handling and driving characteristics... think tires... than messing with the engine management system in an effort to make a Banzi/suicide run in the car... believe me... there is a skill factor involved in peddling a car into those mega digit speeds.... and yes, I've been there, done that...
  2. Probably just jinxed the finish but it's looking pretty good for Lexus at Daytona wigth six minutes to go... got to put a bug up the @#$ of the BMW/Porshe faithful... now if we can only get a decent GT effort with the IS 350 we'll be in high clover...
  3. Someone's got to fly the flag for the home team... Lexus powered cars running one and two over all at the Rolex... wonder how the BMW/Porsche crowd feel about that... didn't notice if Lexus was running GT this year... haven't seen one... maybe next year...
  4. Hmmmmmm... I drive an '87 Buick Grand National with a "slushbox"... 0 to 60 in about 4.5 secs and a 1/4 mile whizzes by in about 12.5 at a buck and a quarter... Buick tried putting a 4-speed in their intercooled GN's but couldn't match the times they were getting with the old 200 R auto tranny... Point is it's all about matching up all the pieces and parts and programming the prom to make all the right decisions at the right time... haven't had my 350 long enough to flog it but my limited toying iwth the s mode suggests that you need to think about a hallf a second ahead of when you want to make an up or down shift... I suspect just leaving well enough alone and letting the auto do its thing will net you the best straight line times... running the twisties is going to take a little getting used to... the 350 is a fine little car that I expect to enjoy a long and happy relationship with without having to get cozy with the service department like all those folks driving bimmers and audis often do...
