  1. I don't ever recomend using outside petrolium detergents in any of your systems. The slight pinging your getting is more than likely just in need of a valve adjustment as you mentioned it happens under slight accelaeration and full acceleration. While you may have some carbon build up in certian areas of your car, seafoam, techron, mystery marvel, and all those do very little if anything to fix anything. Don't waste your time or your money. You would be better off just replacing the fluids. Especially on a car with 145k miles on it. The seals and flex lines can easily be damaged by these. Thanks Much. Your logic makes sense and I figured such, but still felt the need to "tinker". I'm sure it's the safest route. Thanks agian....

  4. Hi all, I'm a bit clueless here....I have a 01 430 with 145K on her. She runs perfect although she has a little pinging on slight acceleration. I've read up on it a bit on this forum and it seems like Seafoam might help with the issue. I've purchased a can and read the instructions but I'm hung up on finding the brake booster line or vacuum line??? Can someone give me an idea where to look or which hose to use? Any help is very much appreciated.
  5. Thanks--that's a good idea--I'll do that tomorrow and see what happens.
  6. Do you have aggressive tread pattern tires? or get new tires? Usually most complaints I get are a humming noise that ends up being the tires. A wheel bearing will groan louder when loaded, like when you turn side to side. No, I have Yoko. Avid v4s I think. I've had the tire before with no noticeable noises....Thanks for you thoughts though...
  7. Hi all, I've got a 2001 GS430 with some noises...I think it's coming from the front wheels and I'm guessing it's the wheel bearings. However, I'm a bit confused. My left rear wheel bearing went bad a while back. It made an a humming noise, increasing to a peak around 35 mph and most notable while turning right it increase in volume then decrease when turning left or when I increased speed. My front seems like it's making the same noise except for the fact it happens at higher speeds--closer to 45-50 mph and doesn't seem to increase or be more noticeable when I turn either direction. Does this sound like a wheel bearing problem to you? I kind of assumed since the rear went bad, then it doesn't seem unreasonable that the front's might go bad as well but I assumed it would happen at the same speeds and have the same characteristics as the rear. It's rather expensive to fix them without knowing if this is the issues or not so I'm trying to get some other, more experienced opinions. Thanks in advance!
  8. I had the same problem many of you did--I replace my pedal assembly and it fixed the problem. See this thread... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...3516&page=4
  9. I had a similar problem although my car's check engine light never came on. My car would hesitate sometimes while driving, almost like I took my foot off the accelerator pedal but I didn't--drove me nuts. I replaced the pedal assemply--see thread below. It fixed my problem and sounds like it might be yours too. Good luck. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...3516&page=4
  10. I second what SRK said--stick with OEM pads. I switch to some "gimmick" pad and went through two sets in 40K miles. Switched back to original pads and I'm happy...
  11. when this happens, does it feel as if your accelerator pedal becomes somewhat spongy--like you took your foot off it but didn't? I had a somewhat similar situation and replaced my pedal accelerator assembly and that fixed it...
  12. if you struts are original then i believe it is definitely time to change them. the second generation also seem to have lower ball joint issues. you should check them out too Thanks--I'll look into it.
  13. Hello All, Happy Holidays--I have a 2001 GS430 with 128K. Whenever the weather gets cold, 50 degrees or below, the front of my car begins to make noises when I go over speed bumps or anything else that causes the car to move up and down. It appears to be noise generated when the shock/springs compress and then release. I don't know much about shocks, springs, coilovers, etc. and thought I'd get some expert opinions as to what to look for. To my knowledge, I have all original shocks and springs, etc. Thanks in advance, Brian
  14. Hello, So it looks as if I have a bad wheel bearing, rear left to be precise. I took the car to my local dealership to see if they could figure out what was going on and they said they think my wheel bearings gone bad. First off, they think??? Next, they want almost 1K to fix it? This seems a bit high--what do you guys think? Should I take it to bigo or some place like that? By the way, the car is an 01 gs430 with 124K on her. By the way again, thanks to SKPERFORMANCE and ANTHONYIEZ for helping to diagnose this problem!
  15. Thanks for the added commetns. Is this an expensive repair? I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to what something like this should really cost... Thanks again.
  16. I currently have Pennzoil multi-vehicle tranny fluid in my gs right now. I want to switch it back to Toyota Type IV but don't know whether I should drain and fill to slowly change the fluid or to do a complete flush. The car has over 120K on her and shifts fine. I had a tranny flush done at 88K miles but didn't realize at the time I should stick to Type IV. SInce I've done one flush and everything was ok, is it safe to assume another flush would be fine as well? Thanks in advance.
  17. Hello, I have an 01 GS430 with 123K miles. I've had this very subtle humming noise that comes from the right rear of my car. I thought it was my tires but I had them replaced this last weekend and the noise is sitll there. It's not that loud, but increases in volumne slightly between 40-50 miles per hour. It's most noticeable when I'm in a sweeping left hand turn, around 40 mph. It doesnt' seem to make the noise when I turn right. I thought it might be my wheel bearings but the guy at the tire shop said he put it up on the rack, turned the wheel by hand and couldn't replicate the noise. Then I thought it might be the rear diff. so I took the car out, drove until I could hear the noise and shifted into N, but the noise didn't change at all. The car is out of alignment--I can't feel it but when I took my old tires off, the front right tire was basically bald in the outer edge. Could this be an alignment issue? I'm not the most mech. inclined so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian
  18. Hello All, I have an 01 GS430--runs great and has 123K on her. I purchased the car with 56K on her and have done the 60K service, timing belt/water pump change, as well as oil changes at 5k miles. At 88K miles, I took it to Jiffy Lube to have the transmission fliud changed as I didn't know what the previous owner had done. Jiffy lube put in Penzoil ATF. THIS WAS BEFORE I READ THIS FORUM! So, my quesiton is what to do now. I know, from reading this forum, that I should be using Toyota IV only. The cars still shifts nice and smooth but I'm trying to keep this car running a long time. Should I drain out the old fluid and replace it with Type IV? Should I do it gradually, drain and refill over a period of time or do a complete flush? Or, should I just let her be since everything still runs well and shows no signs of impending danger? Much thanks!
  19. Hello All, I'm thinking about selling me GS430 to for a GX470. I've been reviewing the forums and noticed much talk about "the thump". Does this still occur in the 05-06 models??? Also, any other issues I should know aobut? Thanks in advance, Brian
  20. Hello All, I'm wonering if anyone has tried the Audiovox Presitge Remote Car Start for their GS? I talked to the tech. today at the car audio place and he said it works fine and all existing functions remain (remote trunk, remote lock/unlock, etc) The price is $399 for parts and labor. This seems to be a better deal than what LuxLink offers since that's $365 plus install. Any thoughts welcome....
  21. Hello, I've got an 01 gs430 with Yokohama avid v4s. I've put a little over 55K on this set and will definately get another set. They ride well and are very quiet--something that's pretty important to me. Good luck.
  22. Hi, I have absolutely the same on my 01 GS430. Throttle body cleaning - doesn't help. ECU resetting - (apparently) doesn't help. Also what we noticed here - this issue connected to driving style - e.g. it significantly more often when my wife is driving (more gently) then me (more aggressive). So start "pushing the pedal" - might become better ;) Also it's noticed to be more often in such situations - when you slightly deaccelerate (release pedal 2 mm) for a few seconds and then accelerate again (press for 2-4 mm) - it happens. Also car seems "stuck" on the gear - you can floor the pedal - it will stay the same 5th. (Release and press again - it will "catch up"). OK, what helped me a lot - cleaning battery terminals. Went to dealer, paid $120CAD and they have it done. OK, they made everything what they could test - no codes, no history codes, testdrive was OK (yeah, sometimes it runs for a week without problem), inspected everything under the hood, and at the end found dirty terminals and cleaned them. So right now problem is solved 95% - sometimes car loses power, but to quite small degree and not very annoying. (Might need to replace battery? Battery is tested to be OK, but it's 5 year old..) Anyway if you find the _real_ solution - please keep me posted. (BTW, do you speak Russian? ;) ) I'd like to have it fixed 100% - "anything beyond perfect is not acceptable" ;)) Dcfish - thanks, will have my mechanic to test TPS as you've attached. Hello dcfish and Nester--thanks for the help. To answer your questions dcfish--I have 122K on the car, it doesn't appear to happen at any certain RPM, although it's never happened when I'm really on the gas(something Nester mentioned) and I've not had any recent service that might have triggered this. Also, thanks for that attachment but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to that stuff. Nester, it sounds like we're on the same page with the car--you've described my situation exactly. My battery is good--nice and clean so that's not an issue on my end. I'm going to attach a link to another forum (I don't know if this is considered improper but I figure it's all about sharing info for a better experience). There are a couple of people who've seemed to experience the same issues...Thanks again! http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...position+sensor
  23. Hello All, First off, thanks to the above mentioned for your knowledge and your willingness to share with others on this forum--you've saved many a dollar! I have an 01 GS430. The car drives perfect EXCEPT for one issue. Often times, the car feels like it's cutting out on me while driving--like it looses power for a few seconds. To be more precise, it's as if I take my foot off the accelerator and downshift but I do neither. My foot remains firmly planted in the same position but the car definately loses power. I compensate for this by stepping harder on the accelerator and the car springs back to life but it seems like I have to press down an extra 1/2 to get the same acceleration as before. I definately have to apply more pressure. I've looked around and have heard people mention similar issues. People suggest replacing the TPS, MAF, cleaning the MAF, cleaning the throttle body (I've cleaned both and neither were very dirty). I've heard of a few people who've replaced their "accelerator pedal assembly", APP part #78010-30030 and this seemed to remedy their problem. So, based on this knowledge, I called the dealer and ran all this by the service guy. He said there isn't any sensor related to the accelerator and he even went as far as to fax me the parts diagram, I couldn't find a sensor either. I asked another local shop that works on Lexus and he told me that he's never heard of anything like this before. He too, mentioned that there wasn't a sensor in the pedal assembly. I'm not made of money and would like to spend my $$ wisely. I'm tempted to order this part anyway and have them install it but thought I'd check with those of you that seem to know a great deal about these fine cars. Also, this issue appears to happen much more frequently when the weather is hot. It doesn't appear to do it when the car is on cruise control, and lastly, it might not happen for weeks at a time, and then one day, happen 5-7 times in one day. THANKS IN ADVANCE EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!
