I too had this happen on my 2001 RX300 when I was very low on fuel. It could be that this is NORMAL! I quote from the RX300 owner's manual (page 38):
Q: Does very low equal "completely empty?"
Q: Why does Lexus consider very low or even empty a "malfuction?"
Q: What exactly is the "malfuction indicator?"
Perhaps somebody from Lexus will enlighten us.......

I'm having same problem too. On cold start, idle speed is very low or won't run at all without pushing on the accelerator. After warm-up it is ok for the day. Will clean valve and see what happens.

I have popping that sounds like loose spring or broken part in the drivers seat back. It is not in the seat bottom or the rails; it is easily reproduced simply by pushing back on the cushion between the shoulder blades [upper middle of rear cushion].
I would take the back off the seat for a look if only I knew how. I don't see and screws or covers to remove. Any ideas?

I'll bet your power steering fluid is disappearing too. If so the smoke is the PS fluid being sucked from the pump.
Search the forum for a fix. I just disconnected and plugged the vacuum line from the pump.

Did you get yours repaired here?
Was the work satisfactory?
Was the cost $295.
What did they add for S&H?
How long did they take?
How DO you get it out of the center console?
