  1. I recently had my computer replaced on my 1992 SC-300. Even though the car runs good, I got a code 71 (check EGR temp sensor) I took it to Lexus and they cleaned out EGR valve. I still get the code. They say that EGR valve has NO temp sensor attached to it. and asked Did You Replace IT? No I didn't!! I think the replacement computer is newer and is looking for the EGR temp sensor and I don't have one Do I have to get a New EGR valve and Temp sensor as Lexus suggests ($540) or can I somehow fool the computer into thinking it has a EGR temp sensor. Some people modify the EGR and block the flow with a kit and somehow get that to work. Maybe that is the solution. Thanks, Don
  2. Hi Tom, Sorry for the delay, but summer was a busy time and since my car was running well I didn't do much with it. At any rate, here is the new information. I took it to the Lexus dealership and the EGR was plugged. They cleaned it out and the car did run (even better). However, the EGR code 71 (temp sensor code came on.) They said my EGR had no temp sensor so I would need to spend 225 for a new EGR valve and 177 for a new temp sensor which is attached to the EGR valve. Here's what I think. Early in the summer I had to have new Computer installed. I think this new computer is looking for a temp sesor, but my car does not have one so therefore I get the code 71. Now, Is there any way for the computer to be fooled so that it thinks that my car has a temp sensor? Could I buy a kit and block the EGR altogether and then fool the computer? I think I am going to post a new thread and try to get multilpe ideas with regards to this problem. Thanks, Don
  3. I just got a CEL and my local mechanic said it coded to a possible EGR temp sensor. He said they really aren't needed. but my problem is to get the check engine light off. The car runs good. Is there any way to bypass the computer code? Maybe the contacts are dirty. Where is the EGR temp sensor? Easy to replace? costly? Do I have to resort to taking it to a Lexus Dealer or can I do some things myself? Thanks, Don ;)
  4. Is there any way I can access a ECU schematic for a 1992 SC-300? I think I could fix the computer if I knew what part of it controls the 5/6 fuel injectors. :cries: java script:emoticon(' :cries:', 'smid_4') :cries: Thanks, Don
