  1. What will be interesting, and what my dilemma is, is how the 2007 stacks up against the 2008, and if the numerous changes add up to a real improvement. There are a lot of new and late model LX 470s on the market at attractive prices, and I wonder if picking up one of those would make more sense. I realize that the current model has been around for a decade with modest changes since introduction, but some things are so right to begin with that dramatic change is often change for the worse. So again, it will be interesting to see...
  2. I know this is premature, but I thought I'd get the topic started because I will be in the market to replace my GX 470 next year. I have had 2 Landcruisers and 2 LX 470s (the last one being a 2001 model) that ultimately I traded for a GX. I put 56,ooo miles on my old LX, several hundred miles off road and in the worst weather imaginable, and loved the vehicle. I also do think the LX is a step above the GX in build quality, ride, carrying capacity, etc., and thus the interest. The reason I traded was that I wanted navigation and side airbags, and Lexus didn't offer those later vehicles in the color choices I wanted. There is a very good walk around on YouTube of the LX 570 at the Quail Event in August, if you haven't seen it. Autospies did it. That gives the best view so far of the features of the vehicle. The styling of the new 570 is starting to grow on me, but I also like the simple styling of the outgoing model. I suppose I worry a little, without much justification, that Lexus\Toyota will somehow cheapen the build quality of the new 570, like Mercedes has done over the last 10 years with many of their models, and is just now starting to rethink. I was constantly amazed at the structure and quality, both inside and out, of my 470. Anyway, the next few months should be interesting as we await the debut of the new version.
  3. This is an interesting thread, because just last Sunday I was under the hood and thought at the time about taking those side covers off altogether. I personally think they look sort of cheap (unlike the cover over the engine itself) and I like to have the ability to check under the hood for fluid levels, leaks and other potential problems without the hassle of taking the covers off each time. Has anyone else taken these off and stored them, or am I the only guy who gets his kicks looking under the hood and actually seeing machinery?
  4. I am a new member to the forum. I last week purchased a 2007 GX 470, trading in a Cayenne Turbo S of all things. The Porsche was a brief, unsatisfying interlude (like my ex-wife) between my beloved 2001 LX 470 and this car. So far, couldn't be happier with the switch. Two questions: What is the consensus about what to use to clean the nav screen? Also, soes anyone use the stick-on screen protectors that my local Lexus dealer sells? Second, I would like to get the electronics to skip the intro screen, and remember seeing a detailed step-by-step post on removing the faceplates, etc., but can't locate it again. Anyone remember where that is? Thanks
  5. Pardon my ignorance, but what is "LC Magazine?"
  6. I have a 2001 LX 470 getting up on miles. I suspect the 2007 LX 470 (550?) will be built on the Sequoia platform, and may well not have the same tremendous tank-like build quality as the outgoing model. If so, I am deciding whether to keep my 2001 or get the outgoing 2006 model. In that regard, I am wondering if Lexus has cheapened the '06 in any way (visible or otherwise) from my '01--such as thinner leather, more plastic, less robust underpinnings, whatever. I only ask because of my experiences with the tragic downfall of Mercedes, and some of the cheapened, decontented vehicles that company has been foisting on the public in recent years. The two LX 470s visually look essentially the same, but I haven't made any kind of detailed study. I know nav is standard, along with side air bags, etc., but is the basic vehicle essentially the same? Thanks
