  1. There is no setting to mute all speakers afaik but there is now a setting to change guidance from center speaker to left speaker. So maybe try switching to the other speaker. You can also increase the guidance volume level in the setup menu.
  2. I think there's an item in the setup for something like "Voice recognition guidance" off/on. Maybe the previous owner turned it off. As for the Help being toned down, it was probably because you were driving. You can only browse through the command help when stationary.
  3. This is not normal. Most likely there's a loose connection. This is especially likely if the display has ever been pulled out for service, to add a satellite tuner or any other reason. If the tech didn't plug in the connectors until they "click" then this could cause a problem like this. Or there could be something going on in the unit internally.
  4. These confused me at first too. If they are on streets that you drive, then it's the breadcrumbs feature. Like Hansel & Gretel, you can you leave a trail behind you in case you want to retrace your steps. To turn it off and on, press "Map View" in the map screen and see the "Trace Route" option. When they are clustered, that's the part where you were doing donuts in the street. ;-)
  5. I don't think it's possible, at least not with typical home equipment. I'm pretty sure the official DVD is a dual-layered professional grade DVD. So for the same reason, you can't make (exact) copies of movie DVDs, you can't make a copy of the nav disk. With movies, though, the copying software "rips" the movies and reencodes it, compressing it further so it'll fit on one single-layered disk. But you can't do this with a disk full of data like the nav dvd. ie you can't fit a 9gb dual-layered disk onto a 4.7gb single-layered disk.
  6. If my experience, if you type in a street number, then a street and the address doesn't exist, it says something like "house number does not exist" than it displays a range of acceptable house numbers. If you try to type in a street that doesn't exist, it won't be possible. It will only accept streets that exist in its database. In general, I think it's best to follow a top-down flow. That is, go to Address, then select City as the first step. Once the city is set go to street. Then go to street number. That way you aren't faced with annoying listings of streets that are two states away.
  7. If Acura is doing it, I think we can bet that Lexus will do it too. :)
  8. You're right, many of these issues won't get fixed until they're noticed so I also think it's important to report them. Probably many dealers don't bother or may not even know about it, but they do have a mechanism for reporting these kinds of issues back to the head office and to the vendor. How about reporting them to your dealer or to the 1-800 number but also reporting them here while you're at it?
  9. What do you mean? How to figure out if it doesn't contain a particular address? Or do you mean POI?
  10. There is a forum dedicated to navigation systems at edmunds.com. You could try posting there as well.
