  1. I have an iBook which is white and has a light gray inner surface, and it gets nasty after a while. I heard about these on the Apple forums, and they are amazing. They clean pretty near anything off surfaces, they seem to work better on surfaces with texture though. I hadnt thought about cleaning my car with it. That is a good idea though. It's just that at this point the interior surfaces are still quite new and clean, don't have any build up yet. I always get the generics at the grocery store, they are just as good and about half the price.
  2. I love my 2001 GS300. I have noticed around town different tail lights. Some have an orange light strip in the center of the tail lights, instead of at the bottom like mine. Is that an older or a newer design? I was kind of sorry to see Lexus change the body style. It was so unique looking for so long, the new body style seems to look a bit more like a lot of other cars now. I mean I like it a lot, but it is not as unique.
  3. That is a gorgeous car. I dont get the lowering though. Lowered cars to me look like the owner has done a Dukes of Hazzard bridge jump with them, and hasnt gotten around to replacing the suspension system. Can you drive over things like speed bumps, uneven pavement or pine needles with it that low? Aside from the lowering, that car is slick. Great color, great model, like the wheels.
  4. Checked out those Eclipse setups, now THAT is what I was thinking about. Im going to save up and get me one of those slick AVN 5435's. As soon as possible.
  5. I have the Mark Levinson system, does that make a difference? I read somewhere that the amp is different for Mark Levinson systems. I will try to find something about Eclipse. Thanks.
  6. The ES hasnt changed its body design. The bummer for me is up until this year, my 2001 GS300 could have been mistaken for a 2005. But now they have totally redesigned the GS, instantly making my 2001 look old and outdated. Its a pitty too, a more subtle evolution might have spared my resale value a little, not that I plan on selling. The GS is now radically redesigned, enough so that the 2nd generation is barely recognizable as the 06's predecessor. If I was looking to buy a GS right now, there's simply no way I would pass on the new design.
  7. So it wasnt just me looks like, there apparently isnt a really good solution for the GS300.
  8. I tried searching and didnt find anything that really answered my question. I know it is excessively expensive to add a nav system to a GS300 that didnt come with one originally. In fact, my local dealership quoted me a stratospheric $14,000 to do it. That leaves me with aftermarket options. I wonder if people here who have added a nav system might tell me what their solution was, and maybe even post a pic of their solution so I can see what it ended up looking like. Any suggestions are most appreciated.
  9. Looks excellent. I love that design. Im sorry they departed from it, its such a classic look. Im not wild about the new design.
  10. Paint it white. Alright, that may be impractical. My GS300 is white, and it is so easy to keep looking good. I have a black 2002 Accord Coupe that is nearly impossible to keep looking good. Never again will I own a black car. I wash it once a week, and I have a really soft duster I use on it about every day to keep the dust off. That keeps it looking pretty good, but man it is high maintenance. I sympathize with you. Black is not easy.
  11. I always always always recommend tint. Tint is wonderful. First of all its a huge privacy boost, because its harder to see you in the car. Plus its cooler, protects the interior, and protects you from all that unnecessary sunlight. My car has dark tint, its white, I think it looks great personally. The previous owner (mom) had the max legal tint installed. I attached a pic here, I know its not silver, but it may give you an idea. [REMOVED PIC because I realized its just a bigger version of my avatar, duh] Can't help you much with Mark Levinson. My car has the ML sound system, I think it sounds really, really good. Thing is there is a center speaker that goes in the dash, Im not sure if non-ML cars have that, might be a problem, also there are speakers by the windsheild and other places. Someone else will know.
  12. I hope this isnt hijacking this thread, it seems related. My six cd changer is missing two of the little trays (2001 GS300). Is it possible to just buy those little trays instead of the whole cartridge? God those trays are fragile.
  13. Pitty they havent included this capability. I have the Mark Levinson sound system, and it doesnt play mp3s. If it did, I could store almost my entire mp3 collection in the cd changer. drool.
  14. I am not mechanical at all. In fact, if my engine ever stopped, I would lift up the hood and make sure there was still an engine there. If there was, I would be fresh out of ideas. So my question is, as a non-mechanical person, why would anyone design an engine that destroys itself when a simple belt fails? This seems insane.
  15. My instrument cluster looked a little like it had been cleaned with steel wool. It was really strange because the rest of the car is just pristine, and yet the clear plastic over the instruments was just scratched up. I used Novus plastic polish on it and the scratches are gone. It looks new now. Of course, I had to vaccuum because there were little white bits from the polish all over the place, but the annoying scratches are gone. I got a microfiber towel to clean it in the future.
  16. Seems like I have to press my GS300's key about 30 times for the doors to unlock and stay unlocked. My car seems to be especially paranoid; it's locking its own doors pretty much all the time. Since I am so paranoid about my wife swinging wide and side-swiping my car, I park very, very close to the wall, this means she cant get in inside the garage. I unlock all the doors with the remote, and somehow by the time I have backed out of the garage and stopped for her to get in, all the doors are locked again. Not to mention if we are out and both approaching the car, it will unlock for me, but the other doors stay locked. I press the key about 5 times or so and they seem to unlock after that. And while we're on the subject, if I hold the unlock button all the windows and the moonroof will open, but holding the lock button simply activates the alarm. So its perfectly happy to have all its windows wide open, even after I re-lock it. Minor annoyances I guess. But look how chatty I got on the subject.
  17. Yeah, I saw that. However the MDX has had a recall issued, and Acura will repair/replace the faulty transmission parts. That is a little more pro-active than Lexus has been with regard to the RX300. I'd just love for him to have that RX because it's such a great price. But all the stories of tranny failures, and people having to pay for them out of pocket has creeped me out a little.
  18. I have to be honest, I am leaning toward talking him out of it, and maybe going with an Acura MDX or a BMW X5. After a few searches I found that these cars have an alarmingly high incidence of transmission failures. And Im pretty sure this car would be out of warranty by now.
  19. My father wants to buy an older RX300 so he doesnt have to drive his LS during the winter. It is a 2000, it is in excellent condition, it only has 14,000 miles on it. The question is, are there any problems with the 2000 year model? Any transmission problems with the AWD's or the navigation systems or anything else we should know about? Thanks!
  20. I never understood the whole de-badging thing, but I can see how that would make sense. Someone with horsepower envy might want to clear off the badges to make people guess, is it a 300 or a 430? Personally I think all the badges look slick. The only badge party fowl is when a dealer bolts their own metallic badge somewhere onto the car. Although Ive never seen that on a Lexus (God forbid). I have a GS 300 and frankly Im pretty stoked about that. I want to keep those badges on. Your car looks slick as ice as it is, if I was you, I would put the badges back on.
  21. If this keeps up I will have to switch to midgrade or regular myself. Yes I drive a Lexus, but come on, Im not made of money. I just hope my car doesnt pitch a fit. It's been pretty spoiled.
  22. That poll didnt go near high enough. I just filled my tank for 3.14/gal for premium. That's in San Diego. Woohoo!
  23. Okay, that's good information. I guess I'll say leasing isnt good for me.
  24. Personally I think leasing is a terrible idea. It's a lose-lose for the consumer. Here is a decent article to describe the pitfalls of leasing a car. Buy vs. Lease: Money Matters
  25. Hopefully you will see this message, I cant message you or email you apparently because Im not a gold member. Did you ever find a good mechanic in San Diego for Lexus?
