Hi, I started this.. - and thanks for the excellent discussion and education for me on the filters. My '93 GS300 does, indeed have the filter housing under the glovebox. My mechanic will add or replace it next time. Right now I used some anti-fungal, anti-mold spray in the intakes in case it is the A/C evaporator. My wife will be the Guinea Pig tomorrow. Dennis

When I have the air set on recirc or fresh, the air in my 1993 GS300 is kind of stale and musty. It doesn't do this when the A/C is on. Is there a cobin air filter in this car that could be replaced? Dennis

Thanks for the offers, guys, but it turns out mine was OK.... It was wet, from a trunk leak in our rainy California winter weather. My dealer diagnosed and fixed it!

This is probably a long shot, but maybe someone has replaced the stock Nakamichi stuff from a '93 GS300 or 400, and still has it around. It seems that the amp (at the very least) has gone dead in mine. The in-dash unit looks like it's still playing but I get no sound in any radio, cd or tape function. I would be interested to buy if someone has this stuff for sale.

Tonight while listening to my radio, (stock Nakamichi system), it suddenly started to lose volume. Over a period of about 15-20 seconds, the vol dropped drastically, and I could only hear it by turning it all the way up. This problem extended to all stations, the CD, and the Cassette. I could just barely hear it at full vol, and then it was scratchy, poor sound. I turned the whole thing off for ten minutes and then on, and it's back to normal, but now I am out of the car and expect this to happen again. It doesn't seem like a fuse - does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

A little over a year ago I paid considerably more for a '93 GS300 with 100,000 miles on it. I am more than happy with this car - my first Lexus. It is smooth, quiet, and fast. I really like the handling when you need to quick high-speed manuevers. 22mpg on the highway. And it seems to be a rather rare and I think beautiful style on the roads these days. I guess you'd better check the carfax, etc, but I think I got my money's worth, and I am now a TOTAL Lexus fan! Good Luck, Dennis - Santa Rosa, CA

Yesterday I checked rpms at 90mph in my '93 GS300 - and it read 3400. That seems pretty good, and to extrapolate from that, it would seem like 5000 rpms might give me about 132mph... if I dare...

Here I am, a thousand miles from the hurricanes, and menaced by flying debris. This morning I just left my mechanic - a brake pad replacement in my ’93 GS300, and thought to check the RPMs at 70mph. Get on highway 101. Speed up. Look down at the tach. About 2,600. Cool… Look up. Two sheets of four by eight plywood are lifting off the lumber rack of the pickup just ahead in my lane. Since we were all going seventy – even the plywood – the relative motion of this missile launch seemed slow, the geometric shapes flying in lazy circles. Aimed at me. My windshield, actually. This was so quick, so real. I juked, I braked, I yelled, and finally, with my lizard-brain, used body English. The sheet that passed an inch over me was close enough to see that it was three-quarter inch. The other one seemed to pass beneath me (maybe I was airborne at this instant?) without a ripple. I had to exit, stop and change my underwear, but the car escaped without a scratch. Dennis

My '93 GS300 has a new noise... sounds like a mild grinding or dry bearing squeek under the hood. Stops when I turn the A/C off. Starts when I turn it on. I assume there is a belt-driven compressor that could be about to fail and make sounds like this, but have not much mechanical knowledge. Is this a common occurance at 117K and is it going to be $$$? I have been following this post with interest. My GS300 is a 93, pearl gray, and in beautiful shape. I think I would like to get a tint in that kind of bronze or whatever warm color it's called, and am surprised at the low prices I see talked about. I know nothing about tints except that I surely don't want to get some of that hideous bubbling film I see on some cars... Is there one brand or process that stands out and stands up to time? Any advice or recommendations/knowledge is welcome. Thanks! Dennis

Doh! Is my face red! I checked the owner's manual and noted that the remote trunk opener can be locked by that key spot near it on the lower dash, put the key in it and unlocked it - Voila! Everything works fine now... It appears my wife, who hardly ever drives the car, accidentally pushed in the lock button the other night. It turns out that the servo in the owner was the problem! Hey - Twinturbo619: First, that's a beautiful (93 GS?) I think you have there in the photo... same color as mine, but I haven't done any body mods. Second, thanks for the advice, and I kind of expected it wasn't a lever and cable affair, but instead a servo... I will have to have my Lexus guy look at it. I thought mine was fast. I can only imagine a Twin Turbo! Dennis

The remote trunk opener button has stopped working in my beloved 1993 GS300. Does anyone know if this is a mechanical (cable, perhaps) operation that is just stretched and needs adjustment, or is it an electric servo motor or ??? Dennis

I looked up the previous thread, and thanks for the advice - a hair dryer and goo be gone, I've employed those tactics already on bumper stickers, so should have thought of it myself! Dennis

I am curious about possibly removing the gold Lexus insignias from the trunk lid of my '03 GS300. Someone told me these are put on with adhesive and are in fact, removable without leaving damage or holes to be filled. Does anyone know if this is correct, or has anyone any experience of advice about this? Dennis

My '93 GS300 is my first Lexus. Got it in great shape, with all regular service, including timing belt. I just had it aligned and put on new hi-speed rated Bridgestone tires. My curiousity is fixated on the speedometer, which goes to 160mph. I am really curious to see how fast it will really go. I understand all the basic road safety and speed limit concerns and am responsible for myself. What I do wonder, is: will letting at all out hurt the car? Is a good-running GS300 of this vintage likely to approach that number? Any experience out there?

I have the factory installed Nakamichi stereo in my "93 GS 300. I would like to find another 12-CD cartridge for the changer... Anybody have one or know where to look? (eBay is full of the 6's only) Dennis

I have a nice (non-custom) car cover for my 1993 GS300, but the only way of attaching it is the slightly annoying grommet on either side of the bottom middle that you have to pass a line or cable underneath the car to firm it up. This car, as you know doesn't have a lot of ground clearance and I don't relish kneeling in mud or other bad surfaces. Also, this still allows wind to peel up the front and rear of the cover. Is anybody aware of a cover that has a full drawstring around the bottom, or other better anchor points. I am not too concerned with locking it on... Dennis Santa Rosa, CA

I just bought a very nicely-cared for 1993 GS300. It has the Nakamichi sound system with the CD changer (12 CD capacity) in the trunk. Does anyone know where I can get another of the CD holders, so me and my wife can have our music tastes in separate "boxes?" Thanks, Dennis
