Like most here, I just love this car, but now have failed New Jersey State Motor Vehicle Inspection I believe for emissions problems. My regular mechanic insists I need a "software update" before he can correct the problems and told me that only a Lexus dealer can apply the software update. As a software and hardware tech I know what a "software update" is, but don't know anything about automobile computers and its software, hence do not know what is being updated.
Is it true that only a Lexus dealer can provide the needed software update(s)? are there regular software updates that I should have been applying over the years?
Thanks for your help. If the car had a bluetooth enabled radio and a rear view backup camera this car would be nearly perfect. I like those modern touches.
