  1. I would love to hear your experiences towing with the gx460. Mine is a full stock 2012 gx460 non premium model so no fancy air suspension. Highway all season tires. I tow a smaller off-road camper , dry weight is 2800 and typical weight when towing was about 3000lbs. Tongue weight is about 350-375lbs what I have noticed as far 1. Towing at about 70 MPH gets me 9-10MPG depending on the wind and slope. 2. It squats at least 2 inches with the trailer hooked up. I might look into getting helper bags in the future to help with sag. 3. Struggling to downshift early during uphills until it’s a bit late and I have to almost put my foot down to get it to downshift. I drove a couple of brand new gx460s and they weren’t to keep to downshift on the hills even with out pulling a trailer behind. So I am not sure if this is a problem across the platform. I know this isn’t a diesel when it comes to low end torque. It makes peak torque at about 3500rpms but is never ever to shift down to stay in the band to tap into that power.
  2. Here is something to think about, if you drive the GX460 for 200K miles, putting the required premium fuel at about $4.5 per gallon, averaging 16 combined MPG, you would have spent $56,000 USD in fuel.
  3. First thing I'd check is the fuse box to make sure it's not blown. There is a diagram in the owners manual locating all the fuses, try there.
  4. I am not 100% sure about this specific feature lock. Fwiw, mine is a 2012 model, I have never subscribed for these, but my key fob has remote start feature. The key fob itself looks different from the outgoing model. It is unfortunate to see the car industry heading towards the subscription models. You already paid for all the hardware for these features and the manufactures are getting away with these software OTA lockdowns which, in my opinion, is just wrong.
  5. The only major issue plaguing the GX460s of all gens are the cam tower leaks and coolant leaks. Get under the car every few thousand miles to keep an eye on leaks. These are expensive to fix
  6. This is just great, I just bought a smaller camper to stay under the limits of the after market hitch. Had this come out a month before, my camping set up would have looked way different. One a different note, I'm not all that impressed with the way my gx460 is towing. I am getting 9-10MPG going just about 70MPH pulling a camper that weighs only 3000lbs with some gear and no water. It also struggles to properly downshift on even small hills. Perhaps I'll post in a different thread about how others are doing with towing. fwiw, I see the part on lexus online store for $575 USD, and the price varies depends on the dealer you choose to purchase from online. But that also means you'd have to install it yourself.
  7. I just spoke to parts manager at a local dealer. They said the reason for stop sale is because the outgoing model “messed up weight distribution and bending frame”. I am skeptical about this because if this was true there would be a recall on all existing tow hitches. curt and other after market hitches are tiny and bolt on differently than lexis hitch which explains the lowered tow rating. This whole deal is very frustrating to be honest and I low key regret buying GX personally.
  8. They will turn off after a pre set time. You can change this in the setting menu from your screen. Should be fairly straight forward. Let me know if you have issues finding and I can write a more specific guide.
  9. GX460 is a fulltime 4WD, it will not operate on 2WD at any time. The screen shows front tire position so you know what your front wheels are doing during offroading/crawling. (as someone stated above)
  10. I have been trying to find one since I bought the vehicle 6 months ago, no luck. All after market options have a mx 5000lb tow and 500lb tongue weights. Lexus dealer or Lexus USA both won't give a definitive answer to when they are going to come up with the new model. I have tried a few custom trailer / hitch manufacture shops locally to see if they can fabricate one but they won't do that apparently if there is already an aftermarket one available on the market. Does anyone know the reason for the stop sale in the first place? Mine is a 2012 model and I have seen many used ones on the market with original tow hitch installed. Is there a reason not to try and source a used OEM tow hitch? if it was a defective part, all the existing hitches should have been recalled, correct? what am I missing here?
