  1. I also have an '05, how often should that filter be changed? Is it in the maintenance schedule? Lastly, for klutzes like myself, pictures would be helpful (e.g., of the pins on which the glove box rotates on). Thanks.
  2. Good to know it is real wood, but there's such a heavy coat of veneer on it that it might as well be fake, for we're not getting any benefit from its genuine "woodness" (or "wooditude", if you prefer), such as smell, feel, etc.
  3. If by "problem" you mean outright failure, then it's too soon to tell for the 330, if you broaden the category to include acceleration hesitation, which one can argue is transmission related, then the 330's have it too. At least mine does.
  4. Unbelievable, is all I can say. :o
  5. Good to hear that's finally been taken care of. When you have driven a few tanks please tell us what mpg you are getting. (And please calculate by hand, to ensure accuracy.) BTW, has anybody else noticed the catagory name of this subforum has been updated to include the 350? :P
  6. Any transmission hesitation when accelerating from full stop, or from recent deceleration? This is a common complaint of the 300's and 330's.
  7. I have to agree, with that sentiment. Additionally a third row of seats would aim it more at the "family" market segment which I don't think is Lexus' target market for these vehicles. Sooner or later, Lexus will enter the minivan segment, that's where they'll put the 3-row seat vehicles.
  8. I don't think this has been mentioned thus far, and I don't really know if it is good advice, but for older cars at least, it was considered good practice to take a long hwy drive once in a while to "burn off carbon build-up". Sounds like you do a lot of city/hilly driving, so maybe a long drive on a flat hwy occasionally might help.
  9. I've seen pics of the 07 RX 350, and it looks almost no change from the 330. Why mess with something that works (and sells).
  10. Another culprit may be the trip computer itself, try calculating a tank by hand to see if you are really getting such poor gas mileage. Even in hilly terrain, low teens for combined mpg is too low to be normal.
  11. My dealer had one in the morning I took my 330 in for an oil change (in the afternoon), so apparently they do put brand new cars in the loaner fleet.
  12. I'm sure Lexus would incorporate that feature if they think enough people want it. Apparently they don't. For me personally, I don't think it's a great set back not having elapsed trip time, there are more info than I care to know as it is.
  13. I have changed the motor oil myself on another car I've owned for years, it makes sense to change it yourself when you have the space and don't mind getting a little dirty, especially if you put lots of mileage in the car. With the RX, I put less than 10k miles on it per year, so at most I'm doing only one oil change every 6 months, and since I don't enjoy getting under a car as much as I used to, I don't mind spending the $90 that the dealer charges for an oil change and tire rotation, plus I get the use of a loaner so inconvenience is at a minimal. It's not a matter of being able to afford it, when I was changing the oil myself I could afford to have the dealer change it, but I prefer to do it myself because I actually get some satisfaction out of it. But things change and now I gladly pay the $90 and don't worry about it for another 6 months.
  14. Lenore, on behalf of all owners who patronize Lexus service dept's, take that :chairshot: . :D And did I hear someone is giving away $260? Where do I sign up? :D
  15. Cars nowadays still use fan belts? (I'm being serious.) That would have been my first guess too.
  16. This is slightly off of the original topic, but close enough that I'd like responses from the same group of people. How well does AWD (in any car) or any safety feature such as ABS, VSC, etc, do in preventing and counteracting hydroplaning? That question came to mind as I was driving to work in pouring rain this morning. My own opinion is that none of the aforementioned features do anything once hydroplaning has started, because you need traction to the wheels for any of them to work, and that's one thing you don't have when hydroplaning.
  17. Not that this dead horse hasn't been beaten enough, the RX350 website's description of AWD... "The all-wheel-drive system is fully automatic. There is no driver involvement necessary. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC) automatically route power to either the front or the rear wheels as necessary to give a smooth ride and help provide optimum traction [1]." For TRAC ... "TRAC senses the onset of wheelspin, then selectively applies the brakes and automatically transfers power to the driving wheel with better grip. TRAC works in conjunction with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) [1]. VSC senses the onset of a loss of traction in a turn and orchestrates the brakes and throttle to help keep the driver on track." For VSC ... "VSC [1] is an electronic system that can aid driver control by detecting incipient sideslip of the wheels while cornering and helping to control it using modulation of engine power and selective application of individual brakes. VSC works in conjunction with ABS and TRAC to help improve driver control under some adverse conditions." "[1] Lexus Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details." Now, in their FWD RX350 page, they have the exact same description for TRAC and VSC, the only difference is that the AWD description is not there. So are we to infer from this that in the AWD version, the TRAC and VSC control all 4 wheels where as in the FWD version they control only the front ? If that is the case, then it begs the next question, are TRAC and VSC any less effective in FWD vs AWD?
  18. Does/has Lexus ever claimed their AWD is 50:50, or in any other proportionment? If not, then even if it is 95:5, then it's still correct to claim AWD, right? All wheels ARE being driven, just in useless proportions. Point being AWD is not a hoax, it's $2000 not well spent on this option.
  19. This and other reactions posted sound more like one or more safety features in action than AWD. A sampling from Lexus's website: ABS, EBD (electronic brake distribution), VSC (vehicle stability control), TRAC (traction control) http://www.lexus.com/models/rx/safety.html#stability That still does not answer the original question, of course, I'm also curious, how DOES one know if the AWD is working ?
  20. If one tours the plant in Cambridge (which I did) I think your mind would be at ease with the quality of workmanship there. Another plant just down the road in Woodstock, Ontario is being built as we speak to build the new Rav4. B) I'm sure Canadian plants churn out quality cars, but if I have a choice, I'd prefer one built/assembled in Japan. This might be archaic thinking, but my impression is that Japanese workers take great pride in their work and each person puts his/her heart into the job. At least that is the reputation they have in the old days, things may have changed now.
  21. I had a bottle of water handy, and thought about using it for a moment. Then I decided not to, I was afraid the water would help spread the stuff and make it seep in better. I have to look into the leather cleaner/conditioner next time I'm in the store. I have the car for a year now and must honestly say I have not done it justice as far as cosmetic maintenance. One temporary solution I have discovered and proudly recommend is ... beach towels, they're cheap and they're big, you can put them everywhere, take a few with you even :) .
  22. I'll skip the stinking details, long story short, I had a dime size drop on the back seat away from the seams (which I guess is a good thing). I wiped it off almost immediately with a dry towel. Happened couple days ago, done nothing since. I don't notice any stains and no strong smell (I didn't put my nose up against the material). Am I good to go ?
  23. Will it be written up as a warranty item ? How did you notice the condensation, was it bad enough to affect normal headlight function ?
  24. Found this site from google search. See no Lexus products though. http://www.jjproducts.net/
  25. Knock maybe ... ? What grade of gas do you use?
