  1. My light out indicator came onb but when I looked, all thge bulbs were lit. Then the light went off the next time I started it. Then the light came on again and went off. It drove me nuts until once I finally found the tailight bulb that apparently was making intermited contact. I replaced the bulb and all is cool.
  2. Fully supported by Toyota Dealers no doubt.
  3. Look on the LS 400 forum and gallaery. There is pictures of where it is and it isn't pretty. A started UNDER and intake manifold? Who ever thought of that idea?
  4. I do quite a bit of Interstate driving and yes, I admit I usally exceed the speed limit. I am pretty good in cities but on rural Interstates, I roll right along. You almost have to speed to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. For protection, I use a rader/lidar detector and usually a CB radio. Neither will elimate your chances of getting caught, but it sure bring it down to less than 5%. Of course I always use reasonable driving tactics as well becasue with instant-on and lidar you can get caught if you aren't careful. Anyone else use these device? I use an Escort with LIDAR and Radar (but I wish I had a Valentine) and a Galaxy 949 (CB) you do tend to be a little heavy footed, check out www.speedtraps.com pretty cool site.
  5. the only reason I don't like HID's is becasue I don't have them ya know
  6. 1UZ-FE Best description of what is does I've seen. All I knew about it is that your car will rip when it clicks. I guess you could say "Click it AND Ticket"
  7. This takes us back to a very old post. Apparently this button when depressed moves everything into wide open throttle. I posted a picture of it in the gallary, it should be on one of the early pages in the LS section.
  8. Good fix. I think it is pathatic how much Lexus charges to fix anything. Nothing seems to be less than six or seven hundred.
  9. Use a C-clamp to compress the piston into the caliper. Put one of the old brake pads against the cylinder and slowly compress until the piston is fully retracted. It must be fully retracted or it won't fit when you try to put it back on. A couple of suggestions. Before compressing the piston, clean the rubber boot so it doesn't hang up later. You only need to remove the top bolt of the inner caliper assembly which then rotates out. If you want to, send me your email and I'll send you a PDF file with pictures and descriptions of what to do to remove the caliper from when I did mine. Sorry I can't help you with the serpentine belt. Denny dwmahony@cox.net
  10. What exactly breaks on the EGR pipe? Does the pipe crack or wear through? Do you think it might be possible to get something like JB Weld or something up in there to seal the crack?
  11. Gotta agree with you Craig. I think they are annoying at best and dangerous at worst as they really blind oncoming drivers. I'm sure they are good for the people driving them but for everyone else they are terrible.
  12. Remember that the parking brake is a drum setup INSIDE the rear rotors.
  13. I still have to determine if my compressor is bad. It doesn't engage, and the A/C light still glows steady. I read that if the compressor locks up, the A/C light is suppose to flash? The code check gives a "33" The dealer told me my compressor was locking up but I'm not so sure about that as they have been wrong about other things in the past.
  14. When warmed up mine idles rock steady at 600 RPM's
  15. Do the 225/60's fit right on the standard rims?
  16. What about that inline filter they offer? Sounds like a good idea to me
  17. I gotta agree its not the worst news you could get. The dealer always finds lots of expensive stuff wrong. They told me my upper control arms were going bad and would cost nearly a thousand to fix. I didn't replace them because the car drives perfectly with absolutely no vibrations and the tires don't wear. I find them telling you the control arms are cracked rather suspisious. Did you look under to see if you could see cracks? Unless someone jumped the car (like on TV) I doubt they would crack. It is unfortunate that the dealers are not more reasonable in repair costs. It makes used Lexus cars worth a lot less than they would be otherwise.
  18. Since they offered to do the pre-purchase inspection for free, I'd take them up on it. You can bet they will come back with a long, expensive list but at leaset you'll have an idea of what you are up against. The local dealer here charges $75 for a pre-purchase inspection. Could be many things but with 300K there are things that are probably worn out
  19. Since I think I need a compressor I looked at the site. Yeah what is the deal with the different price with the exact same numbers???
  20. That is strange. I know mine will go right to 6 grand before it shifts. Since the computer controls the shifting I'm not sure why it hangs at 5 grand. Does it do this in all gears?
  21. Bob made a very good call. Without a thermostat your fluid runs through the radiator so fast it doesn't have a chance to cool. You probably had a sticking thermostat and by replacing it you would most likely have solved the problem. The cooling systems on these cars are pretty bulletproof. My gauge never moves in the hottest or coldest of weather, rock steady. I'd certainly agree with flushing the sysyem at the same time. One other remote possibility is a restricted exhaust. This is very unlikely but it you hit a speed bump and crushed a exhaust pipe or something, it could happen.
  22. It probably is worth a look at your back brakes. They don't really show up as working poorly until you need them. I guess if the front brakes were having to do all the work, it would put a strain on the front causing them to try to lock and activating the ABS. Makes sense to me. I wish I could disconnect the ABS on the Lexus because they are just to scary.
  23. Sometimes when the throttle body gets a carbon build up, it does this. Never happened on my Lexus, but my Chevy got so it wouldn't idle. Cleaned the throttle body and it's been fine for 50,000 miles. Just another thought.
  24. Thanks for the insight Craig. I also have a hard time dealing with metric in everything except snow skis since they have always been measured in centimeters. It kind of threw me when I was in BC a few years ago. I almost ran out of gas because the Cadillac I rented said I had 5 litres left. Well my wife looked at it and said you only have 5 litres left. I was thinking it was in gallons. Then I figured out how they really rip off the Candians for gas! As far as trunk space, I wouldn't have any idea how to figure it in metric. I usually have to look in a trunk to figure out how much space it has anyway. Denny
  25. I use Westley's Bleach White to clean the tires, then I use No Touch. The stuff in the purple can is great, the foam stuff in the red car is crappy. What I dislike is when someone in my family (mentioning no names) scuffs the tires against a curb.
