excellent advice Curt. I really need to get them before next summer when I have a few issues to address. When I had my 77 Cadillac, I had the shop manuals and it made things quite easy. Replaced about everything on that car, luckily there was always in abundant supply in local junkyards and parts were dirt cheap. One thing you are all overlooking is the fact that these cars have positraction . Posi always tends to drive cars straight ahead, that is what it does best. This is a typical characteristic I have noticed when driving any car with posi. If you want to one finger it through the corners, a car with limited slip is not for you.

The plastic bezel on the console is easy to get out. You carefully pry up and it will pop loose. There are four pressure clips that hold it down. Just be careful not to bend it much or you can crack the fine woodgrained plastic.

That might be because the square end of the cable eased out slightly and is making contact with the housing. I dunno, maybe the cable itself broke and it making the noise? Either way, I'd guess it is the cable because it is about the only thing in there that could make that noise that changes with the speed. Probably about impossible to get to it though. I saw in the LS gallary achieve a picture of an LS with the cluster removed. You might be able to see something in one of those pictures. On one of the very last pages.

Maybe your serpentine belt is just worn out. When they get old, they get glazed and when that happens they slip and squeel whiuh could cause your ps not to work momentarily and other lights like battery (indicating no charge) to come on. Does your temp stay steady?

I had a Buick Electra that did the same thing. Then the odometer stopped working. I took it apart and found that the screw holding the cable in was loose and had let the square end of the cable retract from the seat and it caused a ticking as it tried (but failed) to engage.

You sure it isn't a clunk from the starter disengaging? These old starters tend to hang engaged sometimes and give a clunk like that.

I know that unhooking the battery will not reset the odometer. All that stuff is highly regulated by the feds. If the state has annual inspections the milage is listed on the inspection. Check the service records at any Lexus dealer (free), and run a carfax. Most likely someone bought the rim used with used tires. The battery change out is a mystery though.

This could be caused by something a simple as corrosion on your battery terminals or a weak battery. If your battery is getting up there in years, it might just be about done. Put a vOM on the teminals and check output.

thanks Matthew, I was kind of wondering since I hadn't seen it mentioned except in a couple of threads. I still hear people talking about the amazing tornados. I talked to people who bought them and they all said they thought they worked great.... for awhile. Then they realized that they didn't so anything. I thought ithe therory sounded feasible, but I am not an engineer.

If I had to pick from your list, it would be down to the BMW and the Infinity. I would have to give more thought to which. I wouldn't mind a Saburu WRX, the one with 300 HP. I like watching that World Rally Championship and the WRX's are the closest thing that is easy to buy.

I have seen the clear film that sticks on over the paint. I never saw it in a store, but I haven't looked. The main purpose for this is in places like upstate NY where they sand the roads. That really messes up your paint. I have seen the headlight protects films. I know on NASCAR they use clear windshield tear-offs which are probably about the same thing.

What DOES work is replacing the stock air filter with a K&N filter. Amazing difference. Tornados belong in Oklahoma, not inside your engine.

I would run the car up on ramps, crawl under it and do a look/see. It might just be that one of the exhaust pipes is hitting something. I also think there is a small drain on the mufflers which might be holding water from condensation. Sometimes you can see a lot with a little looking. These exhaust systems will probably last forever. Mine looks perfect with any rust anywhere on the system

My 90 has no rattles, squeaks, or other noises. Very quiet door. The air seal is still so good that if you don't give a little force closing the door with the windows up, the pressure keeps it from closing all the way. I can't believe a 15 year old car is so tight and quiet.

I put in the silverstar bulbs about 2 years ago, and like Silvermate, I always drive with my lights on all the time. They work just fine and are brighter than the original bulbs. The most common way for a headlight bulb to fail is to have the low beams burn out since they are used much more often than the high beams. You fog lights will not work when you lights are on high beam. When I went to get the big Lex inspected the other day, the guy told me my fog lights didn't work. I flipped the lever back to low beam and they came right on. The guy gave an "oh" and told me how nice the car was.

I saw the opening on TV. It looks like an amazing place. It even looked like they had an Air Force One plane in there on one glimpse I saw.

I haven't had it come on sice I changed the oil. I guess it doesn't hurt to drive with the light on as long as your oil level is okay. Probably the sensor got gunked up or something. I doubt the oil temperature is too high as the engine runs rock steady temperature. I guess it is just one of those things.

I put the Autozone shocks on my 90. They work great the only difference being is that the extension is slightly shorter than the factory lifts. Watch your head!

Finding the right car is sometimes just plain good luck. I wasn't even in the market for a Lexus (or a car) when I ran into a freind who had bought the 1990 new. Synthetic oil always, garaged, well maintanined. He bought a 99 LS400 . I asked him what he was going to do with the 90 and he hemmed and hawed and said he might keep it. Then he called me and said he might sell it. I asked how much, he said 6 grand. It went home with me. It had 120,000 at the time. Look on autotrader.com best place with out ebay

I appreciate all the insight. The light that came on is the low oil level light (the amber one), not the low oil pressure light. My wife said that it came on everytime she went over 70. When she slowed down below 70, it went off again. I changed the oil and filter and ran it up to about 80 and no light. I also put on my new K&N air filter so I'll probably go out for a HS Interstate run later to check it out. The old filter element was nasty, I'll take a picture. I must have missed ever changing that. Regarding the indicator light, is the sensor insdie the oil pan? You have to lift the engine to replace it then?
