  1. or you could buy an already rebuilt pump and put it on. Although the rebuild instructions provided in Lexls tutorial are excellent, it may still be above what many will attempt (or have the time to do). Either way you do not want your alternator damaged as they are very expensive. Someone described how to make a shield to cover the alternator but that is a lot of work to not correct the problem.
  2. The wood (plastic) panel around the shifter is very easy to remove. Pull up on it from the back. Grab it or use a flat screwdriver wrapped with masking tape to pop it up. It is mounted on pressure clips. You will have to move the shift lever to L to lift it off. Just be somewhat careful because it can crack if you bend it.
  3. Here is a tutorial link from lexls. http://www.lexls.com/pspumprebuild.html
  4. Vey nice website Lesls. A great resource.
  5. You should address this soon. The PS fluid has a nasty habit of ruining the alternator then your blues will be a deeper shade of blue.
  6. We are enjoying the holidays here is snowny SE Virginia. Seasons Greetings to everyone!
  7. I would guess that the bulbs are burned out, seems to be fairly common for these bulbs to wear out. Replacing them is another thing. You have to remove the components to replace them. Use the search feature to see if you can find how to replace the bulbs. Good luck
  8. Possibly the air pressure in your tires is not even?
  9. That is really strange. It almost sounds like the transmission wasn't engaging or something, but I think you may be right about the electrical part. You sure that you didn't break the back tires loose? I have had that happen in the rain.
  10. You know you are a hooked Lexus owner when you stand in your garage or driveway and just look at your car. What idiot stands around and just admires their 15 year old car? That would be me!
  11. try myway.com 125MB of storage free! Provided by Dell
  12. So how does Sal pass this test. If you are in the military and Sal is a co-worker, doesn't he have to get tested? and to light up anything with someone else in the car is rude and selfish. At least it wasn't YOUR car.
  13. Looks like a regular blizzard down there in Texas. We had about the same amount here in Virginia Beach on Monday and schools were closed.
  14. Merry Christmas to you Craig. 2004 was an interesting year. We purchased a second home, a Totyota Corolla, and I built version 2 of my XboX driving simulator, and everyone is healthy. What else could I need? Mery Christmas to all my LOC friends. Denny
  15. I went out yesterday morning and noticed a slight decrease in initial cranking speed. I will go over to Costco tomorrow and get a new battery.
  16. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering about the security system.
  17. SOunds interesting. I put a K&N airfilter on and wow, what a difference. It actually seems to have lowered my gas milage since I am now tempted to "get on it" more often.
  18. My wife left the Lexus at the airport in Newark for 4 days. When she got back, the battery was dead. They jumped it and it has been fine. It is only 2 1/2 years old. I'll put a new one in but will I encounter any problems with the alarm? I know the radio SEC code so that isn't a problem, just wondering about the other stuff.
  19. My next door neighbor gets speeding tickets all the time. He just told me yesterday that he has to go to driving school. Like SWO, I am pretty good a reading the road and traffic which is you main defense against speeding tickets. I also use a high end radar detector and usually a CB. I speed on the Interstates, sometime 20-30 or more over. I usually try to stay below 20 over as that is RD in many states. I do not run red lights or do other stupid stuff in town as that is a waste of a ticket in my opinion. The other day the state police assn called soliciting money. I told them if they want money from me they have to catch me. Running 72 in a 35 may be safe, but it is like asking for an RD ticket as many small towns set unrealistic speed limits to generate cashflow. Check out reasonable drivers anonymous website for comments on this. I have many friends who are cops howver in general cops seemed to have developed a nasty attitude in the past few years with all their no tolerance, no jokes, we are superior antics. I respect them for the job they do and have written my legislative reps over the years. This is a waste of time because the ultra-conservative safety !Removed! run the country now so we will never see any changes in limits (except down).
  20. Ouch. The insurance company will total the car for sure. What you might try to do is buy it back. Looks like about 10K in damage at Lexus prices. If the suspension isn't damaged you should be able to fix it if you can find parts. Having been hit sevral times I know you really have to fight for yourself. The insurance companies and the US Navy have all tried to screw me. The Navy was the worst and I had to write to my congressman to resolve that. Sorry about your car, good luck
  21. I have one of the cheap buffers that a freind gave me. I am not at all impressed. It doesn't have the power you need and sometimes the bonnent comes loose. I used it a couple of times and went back to hand waxing which with the right prep and wax isn't bad.
  22. I agree. The cheapest way for you to find out is to replace the battery. Batteries are strange things working perfectly until they don't. Usually with older batteries, sediment drops off the plates as they wear and sooner or later the pile of sediment builds up on the bottom until it causes internal shorts. Make sure you have the security codes you need before disconnecting the battery. Also, these cars ARE very hard to jump start, that appears to be normal. One when a light was left on it took forever of jumping to get it to start. Good luck
  23. tirerack.com sells them. I bought a set of rims and snow tires for my daughters car and they were delivered in less than 2 days.
  24. I specifically asked the local Lexus dealer to check the struts and shocks. They were all fine, in fact they told me they are rarely replaced as they are so durable. I haven't noticed any ride comprimises and my car has over 140K. I will add that I was VERY surprized that the dealer told me I didn't need something.
  25. There are many things that can make it come on. The only true way to know is to check the code. Could be anything. I have had them come on because I overfilled the gas tank.
