  1. There is a round metal holder (shaped kind of like a large bullet) that is screwed into the frame. You wouldn't remove it to change the bulb. Inside the rounded metal holder is yellow glass (fairly thick) that has the same shape as the holder. It looked like it is possible to take the glass out without breaking it but it would be a lot of work. I just broke the glass and put the holder back in the frame. I tried with the needlenose then took a small flathead screwdriver and hit it with the handle of a larger screwdriver (I was too lazy to walk to the garage for a hammer). After a couple of pops, the glass broke and went everywhere. Luckily, I had heeded Lexls's waring and had it in a tray.

  4. The other day I noticed that one of my headlights had gone out. I picked up a set of Sylvannia Silverstars. While I had the thing apart I decided to go ahead and remove the yellow from the foglights. What a big improvement. Thanks Lexls for the tutorials, worked great.
  5. You DO realize WHERE the starter is don't you? I would certainly replace the starter after all the trouble to get to it.
  6. Interesting comment Highlander. I have noticed that each Lexus dealer can (apparently) charge whatever they want. I got rear brake pads from Warnock Lexus in Livingston, NJ for $72 a set.
  7. I have no idea what a WOI thread is? I saw a whole bunch of Gore bashing in this thread that nobody mentioned. I guess it is only okay to bash liberals? Maybe we do need a tidal wave here that just hits the east and west coasts to wash away all the liberals who bash Jr.
  8. It IS nasty. She is rather difficult to deal with. !Removed!, my across the street neighbor, got into a huge argument with her about this issue last year and they don't speak anymore. When I go out in the morning and see huge flocks of seagulls swarming over her house it really bothers me. It looks like th city dump! AT least the weather has warmed so I can wash again. What is the matter with people?
  9. Probably because the K&N air filters cost about $40 - $50 each. I have K&N airfilters on all my cars. Cheap paper filters save automakers huge money. I didn't expect the difference, but there really is. Plus you never have to replace the K&N airfilters, just clean them at 30-50K miles
  10. You can get the battery at Radio Shack. The cover IS hard to pop off but it will.
  11. I have this lady who lives up the street. Since she drives a jag she won't see what I am about to say about her. She feeds wild animals. Rats, squirrels, rabbits, possums, and now seagulls. For those of you who do not live near the coast you might think seagulls are beautiful. Uh huh, until they start flying over your cars. It is nasty. She FILLS her cars with bread from the trunk to to the whole inside and spreads it out all over her yard which attracts seagulls. Then she puts out hundreds of pounds of dog food to feed all the rats and other rodents which have been attacted from the river. There are not many happy people around here right now. I certainly do not like birds doing their "bombing runs" around here. And she thinks her Jag is so cool. It is dark blue with gooey white spots all over it! And my hose is frozen solid. ughhhh
  12. Thanks! I don't fel so weird now. I always look at my car when I am walking away. Sometimes I even angle the tires to give it that cool look (if I parked somewhere where people will see it). I do this with all my cars, not just the LS.
  13. SWO they don't have to be inspected? I sat behind one last month getting inspected? I know they can drive ine HOV single but the HOV's are a joke anyway. During the busiest traffic times they close one lane.
  14. Oh, okay. So you can smoke at Motorola, but not in the Army reserve. Now tell me about that hemi Charger, does that smoke? (tires that is).
  15. I guess we ended up with about 10" here in Virginia Beach. My road is still ice covered since they don't plow residential streets. The LS stayed in the driveway, I drove my daughters Corolla with four brand new Dunlop Grasspic II's
  16. What about the tidal wave? 52,000 dead in a matter of minutes. I heard twice as many will die from the infections after.
  17. I guess no opposing opinions are welcome here anymore? I think public opinion is that the war was an unfortunate mistake. Blocking ot what you don't like isn't the answer. We all support the troops, it is the people making the calls that are suspect.
  18. Are you sure? Unless you pound the car over really rough roads and abuse it (which I doubt you do) I can't believe all that stuff is bad. These suspensions are quite tough with the weakest part being the strut (or torsion bar looking things) bushings. Mine had a slight pull to the right and when I replaced those it was galssy smooth. The upper wishbone control arms also tend to weaken but go bad very slowly.
  19. It also tells you that the oil hadn't been changed in awhile. Oil filters stick more and more the longer they are on. I use a metal cap filter wrench and have never had a problem. Usually, I can break it free with my hand.
  20. Is that where all Lexus cars are made?
  21. The government requires tires to be able to handle the top speed of the car. VCV hit the nail on the head. I guess Lexus owners would rather have tires last 50K instead of 20K and only be able to go 130 instead of 150. Frankly, I rarely go over 130 anyway.
  22. I'm not sure why you say the quality has declined in the Toyotas or Accords. My mom bought a brnad new Accord in 1996 and kept it only a couple of years. Her's was the top of the line V6 LE with sunroof and everything. POS car, with only 10K miles I held it to the floor and it wouldn't go over 105 in several miles. The car accelerated okay up to about 75 then struggled to gain speed. She traded it for a Camry in 199 and has been happy with that.
  23. I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend. In my opinion, newer is usually better, but a Lexus is a Lexus. I saw someone in an ES250 yesterday and it looked nice.
  24. Although I usually remove the entire splash pan which has 12 bolts, it isn't too bad. You can just remove the two on the back of the pan on the drivers side and bend it under to get access without any problems. The biggest problem is that the bolts tend to wear on the splash pan which is why I put large galvanized washers under the bolts.
  25. In my opinion, you have purchased the finest car made. Sure you will have some little problems, but the drive really is so smooth. As you read through the forum you will find out about everything you need to know. This website is excellent mainly because it is topic (Lexus) focused not a lot of BS like on some sites. I have alwayse found that whatever you need to know, someone here will know it. Welcome to the LOC family.
