  1. On my daughters 99 Corolla, during the day the DRL's come on. They are the highbeams running at half power, at night all the lights come on. Her DRL's come on dim at first even at night but by the time you get three houses down, all the lights come on. You never have to touch the headlight switch unless you want all the lights on during the daytime.
  2. I'd also mark it some way with a sharpie JUST to make sure they actually change the belt. They might look at it and saw ahhhhh that looks okay "let's roll it"
  3. Is it the one with the cassette player?
  4. I hope you get good gas milage then. My truck won't do 400 miles on a tank. And I guess they can charge whatever they want for gas too!
  5. no kidding, I can deal with it on my Caprice even though I keep it extremely clean, but on the Lexus.... ughhhhh
  6. I have a two car garage here and I always have two cars inside. The car that takes the "hits" is my Caprice so I'm not that concerned. And no, I would never even consdier putting any type of poison out there. I have two cats and my nighbors have pets too. If I caught anyone putting poison out there I'd turn them in myself. The lady in question drove by yesterday and stopped to talk to me. The whole back of her car was filled with loaves of bread. I'm going to take a picture of it sometime and post it so you all can see what I'm talking about. I didn't say anything to her because it's in one ear and out the other. My neighbor who got into an argument with her previously didn't gain a thing except alienation. The Lexus is in the garage in New Jersey at our other home.
  7. This summer I drove from Santa Barbara to LA on US 101 and it was interesting. Much different from the PCH we took up to SB. Very unusual scenery (for me). I'm not use to seeing everything brown.
  8. Very interesting. The local Lexus dealer here told me the "cushions" are not replaceable and that the whole unit needed to be replaced. Cost me about $600 to have Lexus do that. Of course that was when I first bought the car and didn't know anything about fixing them. You all have saved me quite a bit of money the last few years.
  9. Don't you just love how they do that with parts? I guess my switches are still perfect, another benefit of buying a car from a non-smoker.
  10. Did you need a press or something to R&R the ball joints.
  11. If you get the P4 make sure you get thew Pentium "M" It about doubles the battery life over a P4.
  12. There are certain Interstates (or whatever they call them in UK, Canada, etc.) that are very beautiful drives. I have a few favorites that I have been on, but would like to hear about others. I-81 from Binghampton NY to Syracuse NY. - I love this road, it is smooth and wide with excellent views. Rolling hills and farms. I-80 Delaware Water Gap (NJ/Penna) - Although it often has a lot of traffic, when it is not busy it has deep curves following the river through a deeply cut gorge. Would probably be fantastic on a motorcycle. I-64 Shenandoah Valley from Charlottsville VA to WV. Awesome mountains, beautiful espesically in the fall. Lot's of gawking tourists though. I-5 Seattle to Vancouver - What a view, very enjoyable drive for an East Coast boy. Scenic and different from what I usually see. What are your favorites?
  13. I just bought a Dell last month. 4700 3.4ghz 1gb ram, 160gb HD. I also got a 17" LCD with it. The best part is the wireless mouse and keyboard. I also have my old Gateway which I still use which worked great for 6 years (with a few upgrades).
  14. I guess nothing will ever be foolproof until there are no more fools around. lol
  15. First, Sam shut off the caps man. I live in Virginia and use on all the time. I have an Escort 8400 or something. I also have an older Escort 3200. I started with a Fuzzbuster and have progressed through several. When I buy a new one it will be a Valentine 1. There is no other radar detector to buy. Speeding is not something to be taken lightly. A radar/lidar detector decreases your chances but never think that it will protect you. VASCAR and KA/Instant on will still easily nail you if you are dumb enough to run alone in the left lane. I use a CB as well and rarely run in excess of 19 over due to the repressive RD laws, so I guess laws work.
  16. I know exactly what you mean and you are absolutely correct. The fill lines are not correct. There is a fine line between where it overflows and the low coolant sensor goes on. I marked a line on mine with a Sharpie and if it gets a tad below, the radiator looking low coolant sensor light goes on briefly on startup. If it is a tad higher, the coolant flows out the top. This is apparently a Lexus engineering failure. Find the exact level and you will be fine.
  17. I just replace the Battery in my Lexus. I went to Costco and the only one they had of that size was a deep cycle marine battery. I had measured the size and found one that was slightly narrower but had 900 CCA (cold cranking amps) as opposed the the 650CCA that was in the car. I only replaced it because it was dead at the airport after a wicked cold weekend in Newark and my wife had to get it jumped.
  18. When I was in high school, my parents bought a 1970 Monte Carlo with a 350/300HP, duals and posi. Beautiful car, but my brothers and I tortured it. It would do wicked burnouts starting with me (the oldest), then my 2 year younger brother further brutalized the car. It finally progressed to my youngest brother who bought it from my parents for $200 or something. He really put it to the test. He slid off a corner at about 90, but didn't kill himself (like my other brother did) but it put a very large dent in the RR quarter. He fixed it and further abused the Monte. He finally sold it and the guy he sold it to lost control and killed himself on I-690 in Syracuse. Luckily in your case nobody was hurt. With all the people I know who have been killed in car accidents (my brother and father and many friends) getting hurt only may be a blessing. We all know the dangers in driving, some more than others. I am always really nervous when my daughter is driving. She drove back to Virginia Tech today and I didn't relax until she was there. Thank God I don't have a son who drives like me!
  19. I love JB weld. Some of the best stuff there is. Hope it works for your switch.
  20. Yes, she lives alone and it must be like a zoo. I have heard from other neighbors that she actually lets the wild animals come INSIDE her house. In her backyars she has a feeding station into which she pours 50lb. bags of dog food. I have seen her cars and she has had them completely full of bread. In her truck when she had it open I saw 2 or 3 50lb bags of dogfood and she doens't even have a dog. We have had a few animals caught in our immediate area that have tested positive for rabies. I know several of my neighbors have called the health department but nothing has happened. She is rather hefty and often sits out to get a tan (God only knows why). I wouldn't sit out in her yard with all the animals and birds. At least she is three houses down so I don't get it too bad.
  21. I doubt they will have any trouble selling the new look. They are all about profits after all and some people will buy cars because they are new looking. The Chrsyler 300C is a good example, they are all over the place now. As for hood ornaments I'll have to pass. I have removed them from cars before and am thinking about removing the one from my Caprice. A Lexus with a hood ornament would be too much for me.
  22. Add me to the list as well. Maybe you could post the PDF in the tutorials section. dwmahony@cox.net Thanks
  23. I'm not sure about the bulb set up on Gen 2 or 3 cars. On mine I bought the Silverstars and they went right in. The foglights use a different bulb (H3C). Lexls has a way to convert a cheaper H3 bulb to an H3C. After I put in the SIlverstars and took the yellow out of my foglights, I have excellent illumination.
  24. Great thread and discription Lexus400 and Vic, you both gave me the motivation to do this job when it becomes a problem. So far mine seem to be fine but the car has always been kept in a garage and driven rather gently on fairly smooth roads so maybe that makes a difference. Vic, from the picture I couldn't exactly tell what you attached the far end of the bar clamp to, and how much did you have to crank it in to get proper alignment? Welcome to LOC by the way.
  25. Sorry My computer just had something wierd happen??? Screen disappeared and three simulatanious copies appeared? ANyway the car looks great now with the yellow gone.
