  1. I'll bet what happened was somebody got a wild hair to install HID bulbs (to give it that cool look). What you have is the mess they left installing the transformer. My neighbors kids is doing all that as he continues to ruin a Maxima. Your best bet is to go to a junkyard where you will find the original plugs. Cut them off, bring them home and connect them up. I'd grab the bulbs with them as well then return the one you bought for cash if they work.
  2. Just rolled down beautiful Route 20 across NYS last week over to Saratoga Springs for a car gathering. I didn't take my car and was forced to ride with my friend Chip in his 1972 Chevelle SS-454 convertible. A lot of cubes in that baby if I do say so. Very nice event hosted by Hemmings and fantastic weather. On my title my the empty weigh is listed as 3795 lbs.
  3. The "sometimes" is interesting. If it works sometime, it's not broken. Before I got into expensive stuff, try to get some lubrication into the cable and hood points. Could just be a cable hanging up a little if you are lucky. Welcome.
  4. You didn't happen to mention if you see the R (orange reverse indicator light) on. When one of the wires broke inside the trunk hinge on my LS400 it caused all kinds of power issues.
  5. When I looked at the front of the F type cars, I didn't like the grill and all as well. Maybe if this was a track car but it is and interstate driver for me.
  6. I'll probably start with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only problem is doing all that twisty road stuff is you do tend to wear out your tires quickly. I looked at the replacement costs for future reference and backed off a little. Well unless adrenaline comes onto play.
  7. Anytime you can do a 500+ run and not hit traffic! it IS fun. Besides, if you can't have fun in a Lexus, then you might need a refresher course in fun. I think my car fully loaded comes in around 3900 lbs. of course when I returned the first thing I did was wash and clean it all up. I try never to let dead bugs linger on my front bumper.
  8. I'd leave it alone.
  9. hey, I'll bet a good neutral slam would do wonders. What could possibly go wrong?
  10. These cars are heavier than I initially thought. I really never considered the fuel mileage when I bought this. Anything over 25 is a plus to me. On this entire trip I did not see one other new style IS however I did see a million BMW's.
  11. On this trip which was almost entirely interstates, says I got 26.3 mpg. Guess I should add that flooring off traffic lights on the Eastern Shore probably really cuts my consumption. IF I babied this car I think I could get maybe 28-29. Of course that won't happen. Use mine as a benchmark for the worst you can expect.
  12. Just got back from a quick 1200 mile road trip in mine. I seem to ruin the fuel economy by flooring off the line. Sounds good when I do that and I'll bet Sunoco is a fan. Ran some 91 without ethanol (100% gasoline) in the 250 and it liked it just fine. Seems many gas stations in upstate New York now sell fuel with alcohol. My line of thinking is that alcohol belongs in people and nowhere near cars.
  13. Clear the code and see if it returns. Sometimes fixing the problem will not reset the code for quite while.
  14. There are two coil packs, one for each bank. They are the roundish covered things in the front. Not sure how to check them other than no spark. I have never heard on people having problems with the coils but hey, anything can happen.
  15. In the early time when I owned my 1990 LS400, I smelt ( yeah) gasoline, especially on start ups. Then the white smoke came. Mosquito trucks even avoided our area. Blocked off the power steering (super) assist vacuum lines (with golf tees and little hose clamps) and all was well. Sold my LS400 to a friend and we changed the oil then washed and detailed. Ahhhh, still miss driving that car. Both my wife and I agree that the 90 LS was the best car ever.
  16. So far i have not found the paddle shifters to be very entertaining. I do like the sport mode for fun.
  17. That was a most interesting article. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I give my eye tooth to have a big pole barn that could hold a LOT of cars. I doubt I would have sold any of the last several I've sold if I'd had more space. Pretty much at the limit now though.
  19. Not sure if you are as meticulous with your car as I am with my cars as I am but I suspect so. Spent the day detailing my wife's RAV4. Most people said it looked clean before I started but that was not the case. I love our garage here as it is empty except for 2 cars and my Mongoose bicycle, and my TV.
  20. Clean the paint REALLY well before you apply. If you seal in a bug or stain, it will be there for quite awhile. Warm it, shake it and apply. Lasts years.
  21. I can do that. A few weeks ago I bought an IS250 AWD. The AWD models come with a 6 speed shiftable automatic. The rear wheel drive cars have an 8 speed shiftable (I assume) transmission. Both have three modes, ECO NORM SPORT. If you buy the F Package, you also have a SUPER SPORT mode which is really a track setting. Having owned several Lexus and Toyota cars, the transmission is everything I expected and maybe even a little more. When the car is in the SPORT mode, the transmission performs (automatically) exactly as you might when getting on it. Even blips rev matching downshifts, very impressive. Should you have the desire, select the manual mode and use the paddle shifters which are like those on my Logictech steering wheel for video games. I haven't played with it much as it tends to lead to aggressive driving and I'll wait until I'm someplace where there isn't anything around. I drove the IS350 AWD F-sport and it is wicked fast. I thought that then I drove an IS250 AWD and decided that it was fast enough for me. The thing still rips but I I certainly don't expect to blow many doors off with the 2.5 Besides, I kind of like keeping my license clean.
  22. Lincoln Ave in Utica NY. They make it primarily for power companies that use it to coat high voltage power lines prior to installation. No residue. Once applied, lasts years. I reapply once a year because I like too. http://www.collinite.com/
  23. I have always had at least two just for me. Trying to cut back but you know....
  24. I had and still have bunches of cars. After driving the 400 then the 330, I wanted some of that Pizzaz. The M5 I looked at was just nasty evil looking and oozed with Pizzaz. BUT, you can't go wrong with Lexus and I wanted an economical (kinda) car that I could enjoy. After the way I tortured that Miata I had burning off a set of new tires in 4000 miles, I'm kind of over that portion.
  25. I seriously considered and almost bought the IS350 F type. Very sweet car but after I test drove one, well I felt it was more than I needed which combined with my lack of resistance, I didn't care for the F type grill, nor the only available color in silver. They had a sweet white (required color) AWD and after a test drive, I figured the 250 was more than adequate for my highway transportation needs and even has a little pipe when you get on it hard. I hardly ever drive it in town because I use that big ole 350 and the 12 bolt in the silverado for that. Luckily, when my wife is home, she likes the silverado which is good because I don't want her tempted to drive the IS. I also usually hide the key fob if the car is there and I'm not. Can't be too careful you know. Drove from Syracuse to Boston today and averaged 27.9 mpg @ 75 mph using Sunoco 93 and normal cruise. Still have yet to try the ECON mode but don't sit around holding your breathe for that because had I wanted economy, there would be a white Prius in the garage.
