  1. with brake pads you get what you pay for. cheap pads dust, glaze and wear out faster. Autozone has pretty good stuff, i'd buy their best.
  2. In central NYS, in the snow belt, the rust problem was so bad, cars literally broke in half. As someone so correctly pointed out, early Japanese cars were total junk. Few lasted even 5 years as the deterioration of the body and components was so bad. My father had an early 70's Datsun 510 which was perhaps the worst ever. New cars are made so much better for corrosion resistance. For people in California, it may be difficult to comprehend just how damaging road salt is to everything on a vehicle. Cars made in the 50's - 80's were junk, the brand didn't matter. The auto makers deserved the downfall they had for producing such junk.
  3. I have been looking for an audio connection cable that will plug into the back auxiliary jack of the radio. This car is my 2004 ES330 which has CD and cassette players. Having had the radio out previously, I know there is a connector point to hook up audio. Since my daughter uses this car and has a HTC M8 instead of an iPhone like everyone else, I can't find a connector that will work. I don't know android stuff so if you can help, I can reward you with significant accolades. Thanks, Denny
  4. Yes, best practice is snow tires mounted in a second set of rims. Toyota kills you with their TPS alignment practice which they charge for. We run our 2013 RAV4 AWD in the winter near Boston with all season tires that came on the car. It does okay but compared to snow tires, you depend on electronics as opposed to actual traction found with winter tires.
  5. Hate leaks. Probably means that someone has had it off before and did the over torque thing. I've seen some that are bent iin at every bolt point. Well good luck. Follow the pattern and step torque.
  6. Rustproofing of car has come a century in a few decades. While in Syracuse last week I saw cars less than 10 years old with obvious rust. The undersides are destroyed by salt making it torch time to do anything underneath. I lived in Oswego New York for 3 years and there was nearly 40 feet of snow the last year I lived there. Of course by that point, I had had it with snow, cold, gray and booked down to Virginia Beach. No more rusted cars. No more fighting with rusted, deteriorated parts to do anything. Having worked as a petroleum byproduct distribution engineer (pump jockey) and basic mechanic on rusty, dripping, salty crap underneath cars to earn money while in college, I know exactly what salt does to all the things under your car. Yes, cars are much better designed than in the past. Now you can drive one and salt it up good for 10 years, but then it is done. The 1990 LS400 I sold to my neighbor is perfect. Paint, underneath, exhaust all rust free. Drive a car in Syracuse for 25 years and see what happens.
  7. If you haven't removed the pan yet, you might not need to know. There is a drain plug for the transmission fluid. Drain, fill, drive, drain, fill, drive a few times. Otherwise, you need not only the torque specifications but the pattern as well. Very, very important not to over tighten and distort the fit. No filter, just a screen to see anyway.
  8. Oh no Becki a terrible loss on Christmas Eve. Saw a car today decked out with nose and antlers. Thought of you.
  9. I suggest you look under a 10 year old car from a heavy road salt area, then look under a 10 year old car (or 20 for that matter) from the south and you will see. Sure the sheet metal doesn't corrode though as quickly, but it still does. I have lived in both climates. Regarding the snow tires, sounds like an AWD car with snow tires is the way to go.
  10. Well I have used the subwoofer. Very nice system you can really crank. Come spring, maybe I'll have to try the sunroof. After the Miata, I decided I don't like the sun on me that much. I did drive around with the top down last winter. 25 degrees and I'm bundled up cruising. Got some curious looks from onlookers. Of course then some big guy and his girl came by dressing in Santa clothing on a Harley and upstaged me. Raining like a bad dog ad 70 degrees here in Virginia Beach. Merry Christmas I guess.
  11. Yeah, I saw that Paul, Thanks for taking care of this. Like you I seriously can not wrap my head around why someone would bother doing this type of thing. Seems obvious that there is some kind of psychological problem indicated.
  12. Got that on correct Becki. Had a guy who had a new corvette, mid seventies. Think it had 165 hp and wouldn't even do a burnout unless you power braked it wicked hard on wet or gravel. They get more horsepower out of a 1.6L engine now.
  13. Looks like Ali baba has found an early morning interest in flooding LOC with unintelligent and meaningless posts. I suggest a major cyber attack on the perpetrator taking down his computer, server and even ISP if needed. Certainly can't understand how someone gets their juice from posting crap? Attack now, attack often. Take them out.
  14. Firestone Winterforce. Half the cost and excellent performance. Look on tire rack. Your car should have directional, staggered tires which means they must stay on that corner of the car for the life of the tires. They can not be rotated. For snow tires, they also should be staggered although I doubt this is a very good car for snow. Can't see ruining a $40 something thousand car by driving in salt. I myself, use a "winter rat" during the season.
  15. I don't think I have ever opened a sunroof on any car I have owned. Without the dark tint, I would keep the cover closed.
  16. My neighbor has a 2001 RX300. Both of those lights have been on for over 7 years. They should use a dollar ($) sign for the trouble indicator because after you spend a fortune and get all the codes cleared, it drive the same.
  17. Yeah they were. Of course all cars then were really junk. Made out of cheap metal that rusted through within two years.
  18. The engine WAS the best part of the Mustang. That was until it lost oil pressure and blew. The body was half Bondo from all the rust. Never had much luck with Ford vehicles.
  19. My 90 did not have traction control. Step on it hard around a corner and it will come around on you. I still have two black marks K&N the floor of my garage from a high idle reverse shift my wife did.
  20. With 707 horsepower out of the box, this had to happen. https://autos.yahoo.com/news/2015-dodge-challenger-srt-hellcat-crashes-colorado-083512851.html
  21. Ahh boy, just had to happen when you give someone 707HP https://autos.yahoo.com/news/2015-dodge-challenger-srt-hellcat-crashes-colorado-083512851.html
  22. Not exactly what I am looking for. The wheels are the least impressive thing on the car. Looks pretty much like an IS F sport anyway.
  23. Somewhere back in college I had a 64 1/2 Mustang with a 289. Jacked it up and put some 50's on the back. The car was junk, steered terrible, brakes marginal but man would it smoke those Mickey's
  24. Never considered using anything but premium. Besides, with gasoline this cheap, we better burn it up while we still can. Many stations are beginning to sell gasoline without the alcohol.
