I bought a case at a local Toyota dealership. Maybe $6 a quart.

"Certified" is as good as the dealer. I promise you that if I ever had the intention of ripping someone off, I would certify it. Seems like a warm fuzzy the dealers use to extract additional money from buyers. Of course i am a cynic so I'll ask my friend who is a warranty manager and let you know. Most people like CARFAX a lot but keep in mind that often doesn't include "side" jobs.

If you park in parking lots, it helps. Not nearly as much as it helped in the past when everyone drove cars. SUV's doors open so high that most ride over side moulding, especially when propelled by small feet on the rea doors. Frankly, I think everyone with kids should be required to have sliding doors but... Looks depends a lot on the car. I don't think it looks great. On my new IS250, it came with the clear layer thing over the back door panels and rear bumper. Well, I guess it would help but it actually looks kind of like a dirty film sometimes. Not an option I would have selected. Spend the money on a set of WeatherTech floor liners. WELL worth the money and will save your car more than the other stuff since it all looks aftermarket anyway.

Transmission Keeps Dropping Into 1St Gear
VBdenny replied to weinerface's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Good and bad news I guess. On the LS there is a wicked hinge point on the wires. Actually took me more than one to unwrap mine. Sorry to cause you extra work. I do know that vacuum also has some influence on a transmission. Really gotten tougher to diagnose problems with vehicles. I have toyota mechanic friends who take care of stuff like that on my cars.drop over to VB and I'll hook you up. -
Hmmm, maybe I should start a new thread. Cars I din't like and why. LOL

Transmission Keeps Dropping Into 1St Gear
VBdenny replied to weinerface's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
I understand. Guess it is a little different than the LS cars of the era. Yeah, I hate electrical issues. Just spent a bunch of time tracking down a blower motor issue in my Chevy truck. that stuff twists my back all up trying to parts out and the VOM leads in. I have personally never heard of a Lexus RWD type transmission failing. Electrical issues take time and patience. I'm long on the first and short on the second. Good luck, I'm sure someone else will have other ideas. Denny -
Transmission Keeps Dropping Into 1St Gear
VBdenny replied to weinerface's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Hey Ryan, I'm going to take a long shot on this as I had a similar type of problem with my 1990 LS400 years ago. AND, I had the problem twice, each slightly differently yet both involving shifting. First off welcome, always great to have other owners to discuss stuff with about cars, Snapped inside the left (driver's side) trunk hinge is a wire bundle. I had two of these wires break at different times. I guess Lexus was just a little short on the wires and the effect of opening and closing the trunk flexing wires and... you know. Took me forever to unwrap all the tape the put around the wire bundle but I had beer while I was doing the unwrapping so it wasn't bad. When the first wire broke (white one I think) the car shifting became very erractic and wouldn't shift at all. I know, it is a long shot but it is something that might be the problem. IF it is, (other than the unwrapping) it is easy to fix. I did leave the wires loose at the flex point but i wasn't too concerned about the little amount it shows. Hope this is cause for hope. No way. Why send him to someplace nice? Send him to India or something.

Oh yeah, forgot about the prevailing winds. Guess it's a good place to be downwind from.

Sure you aren't in Colorado?

There is no doubt about the power however, while the crossover SUV's are powerful, something about the image. Perhaps the most annoying thing is when women (I assume) put the antlers and noses on the RX's Real mommy cars with smeared windows, dirty front rims, and a bunch of meanless stickers with people stick figures.

I'll go along with the "Ferrari" pricing, something Lexus is well known for doing. Find a Toyota dealer, they do the same work without the Keurig coffee and television for a lot less.
-
Paid $40,829 for my 2014 IS250AWD. Sticker was a little north of $45,000. My amount included title, taxes, tags and everything. The extras alone were over $2500. AND, it was Glacier White.

Turns out the color didn't matter much for this rig. Oh, if we only had a video of the Hellcat being wrecked but I'm sure with that much horsepower and the drivers we all know, there should be more.

and Arizona has bunches of nice junkyards (excuse me, automotive recycling centers) from what I understand. If you happen to go to a yard and see a hood for a 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass, let me know.
-
The way I get bulbs is to go to an automotive recycling center (junkyard) where bulbs are easy to find. The recyclers crush the cars anyway with the bulbs in them so you just have to beat them to the punch. You do mean the instrument cluster bulbs, right?

Headrests Interfere With Good Posture
VBdenny replied to anasazi's topic in 10 - 15 Lexus RX350 / RX450h
I noticed kind of the same thing. I purchased a bunch of these on Amazon and they work great. I bought one, them 4more later on. Car Neck Pillow by TravelMate on Amazon -
First foreign car I ever owned was a Ford Cortina. Maybe 1967 or so? Bought for $25, put in a $29 clutch disc and drove it for 2 years until the engine blew. Never owned a Japanese car until the 1990 LS400

I waited awhile to jump into this BUT, I certainly consider the RX and all that type of vehicle to be primarily, women's cars. My wife wanted one of these things so badly, but I held her off for years. Finally gave in and got a new RAV4 Limited last year. She loves it and is annoyed that I don't really care to drive it much. Oh for sure a great car, just not what I like. Women like cars that are up high, that way they can dent the doors on cars in parking lots easier.

Got that right Freddie. Sure helps to have pictures or video. Like you, I have always used a camera to take pictures of things as I disassemble. Really is worth a 1000 words sometimes. after learning my lesson the hard way in which you find you have to take everything back apart due to something missed. Worst case I had of this was when I put a new clutch disc in my 66 Cutlass, crawled out and jammed the throwout bearing that was on the ground into my back. Double pain.

Sounds suspiciously like a failing fuel pump. Classic symptom. Hope it's not.

Who Has The Highest Mileage On Their Es 300
VBdenny replied to Tousij2's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
I bought a 2004 ES330 in 2006 for my wife. The idea being to replace her 1990 LS400 which was nearing 180,000 miles. The ES is a beautiful car but of course I had spoiled her with the LS400. She never liked it much but I was able to defer her desire for a crossover until 2013. Replaced her ES330 with a RAV4 and I took the ES. I used it for my road car for about two years then gave it to my daughter last summer. Kind of traded it for the Silverado. I use my IS250 in the summer for road trips and the big ole Chevy truck for my winter rat. -
You can't go wrong with a honda or toyota product. Cant say the same for Nissan however. Nissan vehicles are not built nearly as well as either of the others. Had several things break on my Frontier including the 5 speed manual transmission @ 100k. Brake calipers fail religiously @ 50k. Heater resistor, tailgate latch. Stuff that shouldn't break.

Never thought of using my GoPro for mechanics so thanks for the excellent idea. I have all kinds of mounts for the thing. Never heard of the buzzer. Looked it up and seems to be part of the door lock system although on my 1990, there was no beep, just a click. The door button was a tiny button on the side of the key. I did find out the car had an alarm system (after owning it for 9 years) when I set it off once in the driveway. Perhaps this is also for that.

Oh without a doubt. The materials and processes are vastly improved. I trust robots more than auto workers to do things right.
