  1. Guess we can add Saudi Arabia to the list of places to dispose of. Now that we have all the gas and oil we need, let's light a big torch.
  2. Oh I have done that and would. I suspect Billy would not be interested in lugging the rims to a shopping center and meet a buyer. I would never have anyone come to my house. I would of course if someone who was a long time LOC member that I could help out. Anyone with original 15" rims who are needing new tires should certainly consider this generous offer. Nothing against craigslist as it is one of my favorite websites. Recently bought a Valentine One for my brother and met the guy (in his new Cadillac) in a parking lot (in my new Lexus) made the deal and cruised. Many things about Virginia that make that kind of transaction more comfortable.
  3. I believe your car came with directional tires. Although I'm sure you already checked, but if not it is worth a look. Had 4 directional Firestone snow tires installed at Firestone and the idiots put 3 of the 4 on in the wrong direction. Luckily, I was one out of the hundred people who noticed. No apology and took another hour to remount them. Never been impressed with Dunlop tires, they are on the cheaper end of the spectrum. Before I buy any tire, I spend ridiculously long periods of time reading all the specs, ratings, and reviews. One thing is more or less obvious and that is you get what you pay for. I don't look for long mileage tires because by then the rubber is hard and slippery and good car luck doesn't run in my family. For cheap, great tires, the Fusions are very nice. The Yokohama Avids are good for 3 or 4 years. All depends on you travel habits.
  4. I do know some of the headrests can be adjusted forward and back. Good fitting headrests are very important, much like the seats and positioning options. These features determine if travel is relaxing or uncomfortable. My mother had issues with the headrest in my IS. She is rather short and the headrest hit her square in the back of the head causing her head to be cranked slightly forward. I lifted it up and all was well. I often use a memory foam neck rest which snugs right in the notch and supports your neck with the ultimate in comfort. Headrest also can be important if you are cruising somewhere and trying to look cool.
  5. My wife, being from New York City, had these huge bumper guard things on the front and back of her car. Made her 69 Barracuda look terrible. I had fixed several dents and was ready to paint and remove the bumper things. Of course by then the car was stolen so never got around to the task. Nice car, missed that one.
  6. I've seen some in NYC and DC that stay out all the time. Not very pretty but better than nothing I guess.
  7. Exactly. One of the main reasons I keep a "go to the store" vehicle.
  8. No way would I even consider going there. Much to crowded for my liking. This the season for spam. Besides, this chat is about as general as it can get. Difficult to type while watching the Ducks trample Florida State.
  9. Maybe a bit extreme but not by much. I googled the information and every bit traces back to India. Same deal with the crank and robocalls. Try to get a representative for anything in the US and it is nearly impossible. Look up iYogi if you want to find the very most annoying dot Indians. Most annoying place ever.
  10. I just about refuse to sell anything on craigslist. That is asking for trouble. I give the stuff to a charity instead.
  11. Shame we just can't take out the whole country. It would save all of us a lot of time and aggregation. Pray for floods, earthquakes, fires and war over there to help take their mind off spamming.
  12. Parking For those chosen few who love vehicles, there are few things that rival the anxiety involved with parking in public car parks. Leading that list would of course be the dreaded valet. Bear in mind that I will valet park a rental unit at the drop of a hat, but one of my cars? Avoided like Ebola by me with MY cars. Parking involves leaving your car unattended in a place where any moron and their offspring can park so close that just seeing it can wake you at night. I will be up front and say I am a parking fanatic. Perhaps one of the reasons I'm not oversized is that I park wayyyyyyy out, on an end if possible, away from trees (birds), away from obvious strike zones and high traffic areas. Even with the multiple previous door dings on the Silverado, I still park way out. Of course there are situations (many of which my wife makes me attend), where parking is very limited. Anxiety sets in rapidly, you know heart rate up, neck craned looking for a spot. Without a doubt you'll see some dude has his Mercedes Benz coupe backed in snugly in a nice corner spot. When you find a nice spot between two massive SUV,s, you really don't enjoy whatever the event is because you are imagining some inconsiderate buster.. Banging the door of their nasty, dirty pickup into your highly waxed door. Not that I wish for anyone to be handicapped, but you can not argue that the chances of door dings on the Cadillacs tucked in to the HP spaces are minimal. I made friends with handicapped people so we can take their car to events. My car loves that kind of treatment. In spite of all of my precautions, I have accumulated two on my Nissan Frontier. Some idiot in Kitty Hawk backed into it And dented the bumper and under the tail light then booked of course. My LS was dented by a handicapped moron who in spite of the extra space managed to park so close that when they wailed open their door, it put a huge double dent in my back door. After they did it, they moved to a different space thinking I wouldn't know it was them but I was the checkout line at the grocery store and saw it from the window. They looked poor and you can't get blood out of a rock so now have a long long scratch the entire side of their crappy handicapped minivan. Don't know how it happened but as the say. IT HAPPENS. Parallel parking certainly grants you a reprieve from door dings but leaves you vulnerable to license plate bolt gouges. Got a few of them but surprising to say, none on the Chevy truck. Big old hitch might have something to do with that. A wonderful way to spend New Years Eve. Time to clock watch, enjoy Denny
  13. I did mean a perfect upgrade for someone.
  14. Most generous of you Billy. Those will be a perfect upgrade. The 90 LS I had came with (pathetic) 205/65-VR-15. I switched right away to 225/60-VR-15. And later to the HR rated. Had this offer come a few years ago... Best to you and wishing you a Happy New Year Denny
  15. Hey Steve, that is a very nice looking trunk protector. Can it be left out for parking?
  16. Ahh motorcar, in foreign countries, all bets are off. Welcome.
  17. Keep at it. Pretty disgusting these DOS'ers I would suggest maybe a two day delay until you can post as the chevy truck group has apparently had to do. Then screen and see if they are from India. Better yet, block India.
  18. Ha, loved the trunk luggage thing. Without going into detail, I spent a LOT runs to airports. The IS has the clear trunk protectors which would have prevented the scratches from luggage on the ES330. As far as a Lexus trunk scratching luggage, not to worry Steve, the airlines have you covered. Can't tell you how much luggage we have replaced.
  19. Virginia Beach is nasty right now. We alternate between pretty decent and terrible during the winter. Hardly ever any snow. Working in tight spaces is a real challenge. Tore up my hands last week trying to remove a blower motor resistor from an impossibly small area.
  20. WAYYYY too much. Driving that car without power steering will prove to be impossible and dangerous. The air suspension on the early LS400's was great when new. Not very good when old. I'd offer a maximum of $1000. There are too many around that are much better deals and you don't want one that someone has screwed around with.
  21. Having been under the LS400 which is the same drive train, I believe there is a connector on the transmission. Somewhere there must be a picture. Not very much fun tracking down such problems. I spent 10 hours to find a bad connector in my truck. Of course part of that time was in frustration which led to drinking and improper use of the English language. Sorry you can't cruise over to the Beach. Enjoy your cold and snow.
  22. Oh what a problem, Seems every morning some dot indian posts this crap. Looked on google and it is !Removed! from India. Possibly could we provoke Pakistan into nuking them?
  23. without any doubt or need for reflection, the very best Toyota/Lexus product I have owned was my 1990 LS400. Perhaps the best car ever produced by Toyota for the time. I love the 32V- 4CAM V8 engine. The smoothness and power so overwhelmed me the first time I drove it that I knew a new standard had been set. Yes, the newest models are certainly more refined and luxurious BUT then again, so are Buicks now.
  24. Good thread on the problem. Checked the code on neighbors which shows rear oxygen sensor. I suggested (6 years ago) to replace it, but it's not my car so... I do know that for 7 or 8 years it has run perfectly, shifts perfectly and still gets excellent fuel economy. I guess you have to decide if putting a lot of money into that old a car is worthwhile just to get lights off. No new engine will allow knocking, engine computer adjusts as needed. Not sure how that would have impact on overdrive though. Run some 93 and see what happens.
  25. Virginia Beach. VB Denny Hey, good luck, heard snow in NV for New Years.
