  1. Oh yeah, Do NOT drive with it overheating or serious damage WILL occur.
  2. I like Toyota parts but for that difference? easy choice $28 There is another Lexus Technical website that I wish I could remember the name to but there are excellent videos which I have used. By the way, I started here when I bought my first Lexus from my friend who bought it new. Sweet 1990 LS400, pearl white. My wife drove it for a few years then I drove it for several more. Very fast car, much MUCH faster than my new 14 IS250AWD. Sold my baby to my neighbors son so I still see it and do the oil changes and such. Has over 200,000 on it now but still remains the best car I ever owned. Bought a 2004 ES330 of lease at the Lexus place in 2006. Still have it and my daughter uses it now.Bought it for my wife to replace the LS400 which she loved, but she never liked the ES330. According to her description, "the car doesn't drive nearly as nice as the old one" to which I replied ahhhh. She drove it for a long time until I got her the RAV4 in 013. She hated my Miata which I had for fun so I sold it to another friends son (yes, I take a beating on selling cars) but I bought the IS to replace the Miata so nobody is unhappy. From my perspective here is what you need. First, a PLACE to work on the car, 2nd, tools, Third, friends who can help, and 4th, nerves. When you only have one car (and I have been there), it is really difficult to do work because if you need a part and you don't have somebody to drive you, agh. Oh yeah, know all about that. Because of that in the past I now keep at least 2 working vehicles around (or friends) to make it work. If not, you need to be a previous Boy Scout (as I was) and Be Prepared. Even simple jobs go south quickly as I Know. Go slow and research. The time you spend preparing will pay rich dividends. I'll keep up Simon. Denny
  3. I've got my Toyota Guy coming to scoop up the car tomorrow to check it out. I'll let you know the details when they become available.
  4. Toyota transmissions are pretty tough. I personally have never ever seen one fail. I've heard about failures but never knew anyone who had a Toyota transmission fail. Of course with the miles and years and unknown use conditions anything can happen. Your temperature should not go to red ever, really bad and can blow head gaskets which means your car is goodbye. If your cooling system is compromised and overheats, your transmission cooling takes place inside the radiator, IF there is no coolant in the radiator, the transmission will overheat and sensors should protect it for awhile (such as what is happening) but not long. Take the car to a Toyota dealer (NOT Lexus affiliated) and have them scope it. Of course if you like there are a bunch of people (including me) who are more than willing to help you resolve this issue. Start by checking the coolant levels. Hey Sydney, went to Hawaii in December. Honolulu and Maui. Loved the place. Probably saw your car if you cruise around the main beach drag. Silver?
  5. Oh yeah, thanks for joining Simon. Lot's of people here to help. I have saved hours of time, boatloads of aggravation, bunches of money, and eliminated the feeling of being alone with problems. So please hang around if only for the entertainment. Car people are .... different.
  6. I personally hate codes but since you seem to have one, I found this link that should help. (brief here, more on link) Good luck and let us know. http://engine-codes.com/p0446_toyota.html Possible causes - Missing Fuel cap - Incorrect fuel filler cap used - Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close - Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap - Vent control valve harness is open or shorted - Vent control valve circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty vent control valve Read more: http://engine-codes.com/p0446_toyota.html#ixzz3QeHxsp00
  7. Sorry I can't type for sheet on this iPhone with the auto correct
  8. No, I doubt you'll get that much. Man, I drove that same car and it is already really fast for a 4000 lb car. I drag raced and Acura RSX off the line and held exactly even. I will assume you already have a K&N air filter. Dumping weight is the best thing you can do for speed. Of course you might also want the sound. Just today I saw a guy with a Gen 1 with tires and exhaust both aftermarket. Ivan see spending a grand for the sound but not for the performance. Hope you understand Denny
  9. Had some time airport waiting so I figured it out. I had my previous phone and iPad synced. Deleted both of the and it worked. Apparently you can have only one device paired.
  10. I've never heard of road force either so add my name to the dumb list. Regarding the vibration, totally unacceptable. Wheels and tires are all different. Of course you could have a damaged suspension component. An alignment should certainly eliminated that IF they knew what they were doing As previously mentioned, alignments are difficult to do correctly. There are even specifications for the amount of fuel in the tank. I'd suspect tires wheels alignment suspension in that order
  11. On my opinion you are crazy to touch the beautiful exhaust system. Replacement exhaust systems often suffer leaks and rattles. In order to have it done correctly you will be into big bucks. If I was to do anything I eould just change the factory mufflers to magnaflow units. Of course cutting out a perfect system is not something I'd do. I doubt you would gain enough horsepower to even notice. Again, just my opinion.
  12. I hardly ever drive without mine. A challenge in Virginia
  13. Well yes, driving behavior has everything to do with tickets. Problem is this car is so cool it can easily cause my restraint to fail.
  14. This will sound terrible but I had never heard of Katy Perry. Life with the Weather Channel really leaves you out of a lot of things. Hey, at least the Patriots beat those redcoats from Seattle.
  15. And I will. Sirius and XM are the same. Had both individually at times but have had Sirius for the past 12 or so years. I have 4 Sirius subscriptions and they all sound fine. Rattles? even my 1990 LS400 didn't have rattles after 25 years. As far as power, well maybe not quite as much as some would like but still has enough to get you in trouble should you desire. The biggest issue I have with the car as a whole is that it drives and handles so nice, it makes you drive like and a** sometimes. I love the car. It is fun and handles great. I do like that it is primarily RWD (70%) and FWD (30%) on the AWD models. I suppose if I had it to do all over I probably would have gotten the 350 but I do still have my nice clean license so maybe I made the best choice.
  16. Did my airport run, scooped my wife and watching game. Tomorrow is rain so it's a truck day.

Now they are all glued and laughing? Oh man

    Is It Me!

Okay. The Super Bowl is on. We have food and beer. While the game is on everybody talks and pretty much ignores the game. So when a commercial comes on, I get hushed. does something seem a little off to any of the rest of you or Is it me?
  19. Like the rest of us you will find that while the Lexus automobiles themselves are the very best, the Lexus dealerships are among the worst. They are out to make money and more than half of them have no idea what they are doing. I can't imagine that Toyota's Toyoda would let them run things like they have.been. Having been in Caldwell for 5 years off and on, I know that you are located in a particularly difficult area to find reasonable work (well sometime any work) in an acceptable manner. Your best bet is a local Toyota dealer for service. And yes, they screwed you on the tire deal. Welcome to the wonderful world of Lexus. Luckily, you will love the car itself which I guess outbalances the negative dealers since I went back a couple times. Denny
  20. Like SKY MALL, I'll bet hardly anybody even reads the magazine. You would sure think that with the huge technological advances in electronic communications that we would get less mail. Thankfully, the City provides us with a rolling, blue, 95 Gallon recycling container which the come and scoop every other week. A big ole arm comes down and grabs your can, whips it up and automatically dumps it in the truck. Pretty cool setup actually since only one guy operates the unit. Beautiful and sunny here today so I'm taking my car out for a little run to the ORF airport to pick up my wife. With another big snow storm coming to Boston, she decided to work from here for a week or so. Looking forward big time to our neighborhood Super Bowl. Stand by for next year and "Super Bowl L"
  21. Just checked on the tube and I accidently marked it Private. Fixed that so maybe now?
  22. What should be simple, becomes a problem. The story of life.
  23. I know silicon valley may be where the development happens but the Internet is pretty much based around DC. Virginia even has special license plates touting "Internet Capital" on them. Probably because it makes it easier for the NSA to tap in and spy on us.
  24. Ha, ain't that the truth! Yeah, like the "infomercials" on TV where they have advertising in the advertisement.
  25. and in California to boot. To me, it is very important to know my neighbors and like you, knowing the cars is a big part of that process. For whatever reason, I do tend to judge people by their vehicles. People with minivans full of crap with smeared windows is disgusting to see, especially those with black brake-dusted front tires. I've got one of the Harley boys next door who rides with a retired Navy group. When the dogs come over there is a racket in the neighborhood and guess what? not ONE complaint from anyone. My kind of place. I'm about a mile from the Interstate and about 10 miles from back roads fun in Carolina. Happy Super Sunday to y'all
