  1. ...I heard when this car was launched Toyota put a ridiculous amount of care and quality into it to compete with Mercedes.  The paint on mine is fantastic.  As a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry - you wouldn't believe some of the short cuts they take nowadays.  The car is well designed, very classy looking, and comfortable with only a few notable quarks...

    Hope this helps!

    thx.

btw: i remember when it was launched & the 1st toyota actually built them @ a loss per unit. something they needed to do to get their "target" to buy & try.------> @ in the long term... they were right.

    btw: parts are outrageous :censored:

& re: the vents... changed two out (under warranty @ the time) & they've never cracked since.

unfortunately, we may sell it (the "n.o." is gettin' a steal)... just bought a new car this weekend. errrrrrrrr :chairshot:

  2. Since you asked nicely, it refers to the traction control unit. Usually throwing an error code when it thinks theres a problem. Mine did that for about 2 months and I ignored it and it went away. Try this, drive around with the trac off for a few days, so everytime you start the car up turn the trac off. This may refresh previous codes and act as a new install if the unit doesn't run for a while when the cars in normal operation. Actually, does the Trac light automatically come on when you start the car up and before its put into gear?

also a "hack" may be to disconnect the battery & re-connect... this may re-set the system as well. know it works w/ p-cars w/ obd. this may be only a temporary solution. but like forementioned... maybe the trac threw an error code & simply needs to reset.

  3. ...What you do with it is entirely based on your needs and wants, but the SC seems to be a very reliable car, and I would say keeping one past 100k miles is as cheap or cheaper than keeping almost any other car past 100k miles.

    sluggo

thx Sluggo. Yep, still attached to the car as it's been in the family since new. Gotta' say other than some displays & maybe some cosmetic stuff, it's a great car. one regular @ the dealer has 400k on his & it's still beautiful.

    -got me there.

btw: tonight i just got a call as it's getting some more work done @ the dealer. someone just made an offer on it . what tah do...

  4. Thanks Guys...

Will give my lenses a little work this weekend.

But still want to know (if anyone knows) how to remove the assembly? Do you just carefully pry off the lens cover.???

The fogging I'm getting is on the inside & it's water condensation. Was hopin' I could clean/dry & simply reseal w/ a good glue/sealant.

BTW: no yellowing @ all. Lucky I guess. But I'll take that anyday.

  5. Yeah, I played a tape to make sure it wasn't the iPod adapter...only the left side.

btw: just a thought... you may want to hit radio shack or a discount car stereo place & see if you can add a simple "line in" & bypass the tape deck altogether... the audio quality would be even better as well.

    bol

  6. sounds like problem with your tape deck, I have it wired the exact same way with my MP3 player and I get sound form all speakers.

it does sound like your deck. have you played a tape lately? if same result... it's probably the head. i'd clean & demagnatize & then see... otherwise ya need a new head.

  7. I just recently bought a 92 sc400 crashed. While i was fixing it i have been lurking on this board to gather information. now that i have finished working on the car (lol and it runs) i decided to register in case i can be of any help to anyone else.

Sweet. Congrats on breathing life back into the SC.

    So... I have a Q:

have some fogging in my headlight lens & wanted to know. #1- can they be cleaned & resealed or do you need a whole new assembly? & #2- are they easy to disassemble?

 & thx for any responses.

  8. It is the only light on, no check engine light, and the brakes work fine.

It just says "TRAC" in the middle of my tachometer.

    Hey...

FWIW: the owners manual says to take it in... usually has to do w/ an failure in the sys.

    BOL on findin' a fix.

  9.

    Newbie here.

Happy to have found this forum... was a looker for a while but finally have a post.

(month ago) Paid the "Stealer" to have my 120K mi. sevice done along w/ a few other things including new speakers for Nakamichi sys, new engine mounts, yadda ya...

Long story short, spent almost $5k for everything... :censored: (right around what I could have traded the car in for)------> :censored:

But thought... wth it's been a family car since new. Do it & keep the car.

But the car STILL (nothing mech. btw) has some things I'd like to fix........... which prompted this Q:

WHEN IS IT TIME TO SELL THE CAR & MOVE ON TO THE NEXT?

Have a dealer fix everything-list that tops around $2k but isn't that hitting around what the cars actually worth?

any input appreciated, esp. from high mile clubers.

    thx.
