  1. I emailed kyb, no reply. I rolled the dice, ordered TRQ rear shocks because a friend had good things to say about them on his 350Z. They are very firm and controlled, no more bouncing and bucking. Highly recommended for a low cost stock replacement. I wish I had put them on the front too. For $100 I fixed the problem.
  2. The kyb rears are bouncy and underdamped. I wouldn’t recommend them. The fronts work great though. Rather odd. Supra units fit, they are about 1” shorter. Almost all coilovers kits are the same from SC to Supra. Ksport actually has different part numbers for the two cars. I want to get the asphalt ralley long travel set for my 300. Only $1650! I gotta save up….
  3. Turns out you can’t get the Tokicos. Does anyone know if Supra shocks fit on an SC? They are available. Supposedly the suspension is basically the same. Does anyone have input?
  4. You can’t put the fronts on the rear or rears on front the bottom mount is different. Hell the original Tokico Oem shocks were better with 113,000 and 27 years on them. Just thought it was strange because my experience w KYB’s have always been good. They just feel underdamped and bouncy over big bumps while the front tracks perfect. I ordered the Tokico’s we shall see.
  5. So I put new KYB shocks on my SC300. The fronts feel perfect but the rears are bouncy on a undulating road. They feel blown out with little rebound damping out of the box. I am kinda disappointed, KYB’s are usually excellent. I am considering Tokico blue rears. Does anyone have an opinion or experience with this?
  6. I have a factory manual on order. I am a certificated aircraft mechanic so manuals and schematics are useful to me. I plan on keeping this car for maybe life. Thanks for the tips you helped me get at least the radio going. I will be swapping in a stock FRS head unit with bluetooth that is in my wife’s Echo. I don’t plan on spending any $ on the old stereo gear in this car.
  7. Just drove a 95’ SC300 home. Paid $7k with 112k miles. I figure I got a 2JZ with a pretty nice old car attached for that price. Its in need of some love, I am a gear head so here we go with a new project! It needs new rotors n calipers they are very rusty and warped. Someone slapped new pads on it. I already ordered KYB shocks, poly front control arm bushings, a aluminum radiator ( the original is puking out of the tank seals), trunk lid gas struts, a HVAC display (illegible), timing belt, tensioner and water pump kit, it never had a cabin air filter installed. It drives like a dream, solid as a rock, surprisingly good handling, silky smooth tranny ( I am going to change the fluid n filter for a baseline), and the door hinges blow my mind! The door closes like a bank vault! The best part is the 2JZ-GE! I always wanted one of these in my FRS I once had.
  8. I treated / reseated all the stereo connectors in the trunk and at least the front speakers came on. No rear speakers or subwoofer. The 12 disk CD changer refuses to play. What do you expect from 27 year old stereo electronics!?
  9. Thanks for the info! I found this tinny coax back there not connected to anything. I bet it was for the cell phone. I disassembled everything back there, towel dried it and let it set in the sun today. Removed the cd changer and what I assume is the amp under it. The one ground bolt back there I removed, cleaned the paint under it and re assembled with a newer bolt and corrosion preventative. Did that to the body ground by the battery and several grounds on the intake. I am going to do it to every ground I can find, had to do it to my 2002 celica. They dont spot remove the paint under the ring terminals, relying on threads and a clean bolt for contact. I will check fo a cell ecu. There is a funny yellow box by the antenna.
  10. I just brought a nice SC300 home with only 112k on the odo yesterday. The sound is almost inaudible. There appears to be a amp box under the cd changer and yes, a little water in the trunk. I completely gutted the trunk trying to fix a inoperative turn signal. Also the gas cylinders for the trunk lid are weak. Does anyone have an idea where the water gets in? The seals look great. I guess I wanted a project bring home a 27 year old car, right?
