Problem #1 about the whirring noise. Sounds to me like the accessory belts need to be replaced. I had the exact same problems. It's a high pitched noise that goes away after about 2-3 mins when the car is warmed up. Also does anyone know if Akebono provides the OEM pads to Lexus or is it a different manufacterer? I actually did the work myself, It is really quite easy, however I have been working on cars a long time as a hobby and to survive while raising three kids. By the way the Akebono pads have already gone 70k miles so far, and the Brembo disks are looking great.... Good stuff. Alright...I am sold. I just purchased two Brembo rotors and the Akebono pads for the Silversport. Will let you know how the install goes.

Hey RXers, Question. I am at about 83,000 miles and I hear my brakes starting to squeak when I brake at low speeds. I am pretty sure my brakes need replacement now. Last time I checked they were about 30% life left. 1) Question: Should I just get all four of my rotors replaced now while I am at it? Or is it only necessary to get only the front two replaced? (I do get the steering wheel shake when I brake hard at FAST speeds...I believe this is from the warped rotors that others mention on the forum) 2) Newb question here: So I'm at the Iron toad website and I see Front Rotor for the RX listed at $78.86/each and rear AWD rotor for $84.04. These prices are only for one rotor, right? Meaning these things are not sold in pairs like the "Front Brake Pads". In other words, if I wanted to repair all four rotors, I'd have to fork out $324+. Add in another $90 for the front and rear brake pads and I have myself a total $414 just for the materials... I am not sure what the life expectancy of rotors typically are but maybe some of you all have some insight into this. Let me know what you guys think. (I wonder how much this project would cost at Lexus...probably $1G at least)

Hi Guys, I hope you all are doing well. I had a question about the A/C system in my vehicle I am hoping you all might be able to help with. I'm at about 85,000 miles and I've recently noticed that my car's A/C system is not as cold as it used to be. It still blows air out but I've recently noticed, it's not as cold as it used to be. Ever since I've owned my vehicle, I haven't taken it in for A/C service. I've done all the oil changes, but have neglected the A/C for the most part. I am wondering if recharging the A/C (ie. what i believe to be adding freon) should do the trick, however I literally have no clue how to do this. I've tried to search in the General Maintenance forum to no luck and I've seen R-134a kits mentioned a few times on this forum with no real DIY detail. Is this something that I should leave up to the local auto shop/dealer or is this a DIY undertaking that's not too difficult. The last thing I want to do is take it to the dealership and realize it's something I could have done pretty easily (similar to cleaning your cabin A/C filter =P. Some dealerships charge $75 to clean it when it's a 5 minute task that's sitting in your glove compartment). Is the R-134 recharge kit "compatible" with our A/C system or is the freon something I could easily buy from the dealership and do it myself? Thanks for your thoughts! GoldenStateSilverSport

Wow, it looks like many of you are cleaning your IAC valves. Seems like this is a very common procedure like an oil change (that needs to happen every 50k miles or so). Anyways, I have not used the small impact wrench, but i did use the Locking Grip Pliers in my procedure and this DEFINITELY allowed me to get the job done. W/O this tool, I would have been screwed big time. Good luck to you all!

Hugo - I believe you are correct. the wavy brass washer just sits on the stud. My apologies, I did this procedure about a year ago, but from what I can recall, I remember seeing a brass washer sitting on the stud as you mention.

I don't have a clue, but I'm pretty PO'ed that they left out the AUX input in the GS350s...how do they inlude the AUX input and illumunating door sills in the IS350 but leave this out of the GS-es?...I never understood their thinking here..

Like they said, it depends on your needs. Some might say, "if you're young, get the IS" since it's a "younger" car. The IS is beautiful, but the GS fits my style. I like the extra space, and it's a bit classier in my opinion. The IS probably gives the driver a bit of spirited driving, but 303 HP is the GS is enough for me. Plus, I have the 18" rims so for my day to day driving, that's enough to make me happy. To each their own...

CLS is GORGEOUS. I love the ride, style, and power. If I had the extra money I'd go with Benz for sure. Just don't expect the reliability of the lexus. We have an S500 and there have been numerous issues with it AND it's not even a day to day car. The GS430 is a beautiful car, but it's not as big of a head turner as the CLS.

This is correct. The GS300 all weather fit the GS350s. I ordered these for mine the same week I got the car. They work great! and also have a lexus logo on them.

I have the 3M protection on my car. It covers all parts of the car (more than the other places are doing): Hood, fender, front bumper, door cups, side mirrors, gas tank, rear bumper, all door edges. I don't regret it and have the peace of mind when driving on the road since my other lexus has rock chips everywhere on the hood.

You are absolutely correct. Using the dealer services is always a pleasure. The service is great, and you get a loaner car for major services! I personally enjoy servicing my lexus as well. I enjoy changing the oil and doing some of the minor services.

Hi Everyone, I plan on getting a new GS350 this next week. Just wondering if anyone has had experience changing the oil/oil filter on this new model. I've looked around and seen pictures of how it is done on the IS350. I suspect it would be very similar since they are the same engine, right? I have a RX300 and changing the oil on this car was similar to the ES300 as well so I'm hoping that doing this for the GS350 is similar to the IS350/ES350. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Either way you can't go wrong. I have always done the change at 5k miles as recommended by Lexus and I am on my 3rd Lexus. I now have a 2006 GS300 /AWD. Do you 06 GS owners do it yourself or do you take it to the dealer to have them perform this? I'm gonna be getting the 350 this week so I wanted to see how difficult it is to get this done. thanks!

It cost me around $400/500 to repair my windshield. 3K is absurb. Anyways, I recently got a small crack in my windshield and purchased a repair kit from Kragens. I think it was $10 or less. Seems to work fine and the crack has not spread. I had an experience with my old car where the crack started out small and eventually spread especially in hot temperatures during the summer. Lessoned learned...repair the crack now when it's small. $10 bucks is nothing compared to purchasing a new windshield.
